LandMann:You are obviously dumb and can't offer nothing to Nigeria as a country but quick to shout monopoly. Do you even have a job or any skill.Do you have any business even employing a single Nigeria. If none, pls go and farm and contribute to food security of this country and create monopoly in garri supply. Monopoly kill you thr.The refinery was able to reduce diesel from #1800 to#1000-1200.Tell the criminals benefiting from importation that we are coming for them soon. Why are you not shouting mtn a south African company having monopoly in that sector. I company used in moving our scarce forex to SA. |

Guestlander: Well, for Tesla the market share was as a result of been a first mover in the sector and it is reducing every year. They have competition Rivian/GM and they are quickly catching up to reduce that share and the US govt is helping them to do that by giving climate credit to rivian / GM customers and other electric vehicles manufactured in the US but stopped giving it to tesla. In a way reducing Tesla share and improving competition. So Tesla is not a monopoly! 3 Likes |

Useless propaganda from Dangote's enemies. There are refineries that are 30 years older than Dangote refinery so monopoly is impossible. There is also the option of importing fuel to checkmate Dangote. Another is buying substantial stakes to split whatever Dangote makes as monopoly windfall which the corrupt NNPCL has turned down. |
Re: Dangote Fuel Monopoly Will Not Benefit Nigerians by Guestlander: 11:29am On Aug 06, 2024 |
horlando30: Going by the same logic, isn't it better that Nigeria supports local refineries and help the gain market share rather than keep foreign refineries operating while our own refineries are left to die? |

Guestlander: Yes, I agree that govt should give incentives to local refineries to help them come on stream(BUA) quickly especially the port harcourt refinery. Infact NNPC should take those refineries public quickly as soon as they start operation. But Dangote or even NNPC should not be allowed to take100% market share. 1 Like |

Please shift how will dangote have a monopoly when NNPC alone has 4 refinery and there are several other Modular refineries spread across the country? Even BUA has started his own construction in Imo or so.....dangotes quarrel is with importation of fuel and that truly needs to be addressed cause anywhere in the world if local production is not protected it will lezs to death of Local industries and market flooding with substandard products which will be harmful to the country.....we have already seen this in the textile industry |
Re: Dangote Fuel Monopoly Will Not Benefit Nigerians by LandMann: 12:35pm On Aug 06, 2024 |
leokid866: 1. Going by your logic, will Dangote agree to not export his fuel and diesel and every product of his refinery outside Nigeria? 2. Let's take it further, what if every country bans importation of every product from Dangote refinery? The fact is Dangote will never agree to one above. Supporting local REFINING is not the same thing as supporting a one man business controlled by greed and selfishness. It is greed and selfishness to pressure the government to ban import which will give you overall monopoly of the market knowing fully well that other refineries don't yet have what it takes to compete with you If Dangote agrees to sell his refinery product in Nigeria alone and agrees to sell at least 50% of shares in the company to the public (Nigeria and Nigeria businesses only) then the government can grant his request. Otherwise, granting such request at this time will only lead to further exploitation of the masses. If you want to convince me to agree with you that Dangote should be given monopoly in another critical sector of Nigeria then you must prove to me how the monopoly he enjoys in the cement sector has benefited Nigeria and Nigerians. A man that can wake up and increase cement price by almost 200% just when the government is pushing to build roads with cement from Nigeria is an exploitative man. That kind of man is a core capitalist, most of whom are lead by greed, selfishness and self-centredness. I'm sure if Dangote goes into telecommunications tomorrow he'll start crying for the government to ban MTN, WhatsApp, Starlink and other foreign companies that will compete vigorously against him which will most times result in better quality of service at lower prices for the consumers. Has Nigeria enjoyed any benefit from Dangote cement since he was granted monopoly of the market? No. Year in year out he increases price of his product and the masses have no choice but to buy it. Why fuel the greed of one man continuously and expect others to come into the market knowing that they can lose their money because of the unfair access and advantage Dangote enjoys with Nigeria's government. Just a briefcase full of dollars and the corrupt lawmakers and government officials in Nigeria will rewrite the rules to favour one individual. Who will be stupid to come invest in such a climate? International investors are watching to see how Tinubu handles this issue. Grant Dangote the monopoly he seeks and investors will run away If Dangote has what it takes, produce quality product and sell to Nigerians at cheaper prices. Consumers will naturally gravitate towards your product cos that's the fundamental law of demand. Crying out for government to rewrite the rule to grant you monopoly is disingenuous... it's same rule you'll later rely on to frustrate any competition in court tomorrow....plus a dose of bribery to corrupt judges. 1 Like |

Has dangote stopped anyone from opening cement plant? Or Has he stopped people from setting up refinery. I just don't understand this monopoly BS. The steel industry in Nigeria is not working nobody is investing in it if the guy makes investments there they would say monopoly. It is government job to support local business. The guy should not Be competing with importers. Countries do protectionism |

LandMann:Oga stop been smart by half even the US if you're importing crude refined or not there are tarrifs you have to pay.....this is done to protect local production.....that is all dangote is asking for Protect local industries.....and is like you don't know what the meaning of a monopoly is....you're just out to twist the narrative....I beg shift.... |

LandMann:The people paying you are wasting thr money. People like me are smarter than you and are financial literate. How is dangota having monopoly in cement. You have bua, wapco, sokoto ,ashaka cement. Why didn't they crash thr own prices to put dangota cement out of business. Ibeto should build his own cement company. He has no business importanting it when we have abundant raw material for it in enugu. Sokoto cement serves few states in the North like ashaka cement. His target market can be only SE states....I am full igbo man . Why didn't government take up the complete 20% stake they lied about in the refinery instead of just 7.2%. If they sensed monopoly. And since you are a financial illiterate. Dangota has plans of listing on nse next year. Still go tell your famil/ you to initiate monopoly in garri so that it can be available in nigeria...we have no problem with that.At your age dangota was already a billionaire while you are here collecting stipend to come write English on faceless forum. Is people like you that make some youth this days believe education is a scam. You went to school and cannot create employment but quick to write about someone who is the highest employer of labour in nigeria in private capacity. Seriously are you cursed or you are a witch not wanting something good for the country .The refinery must work as Nigerians stand with him.The fuel the criminals who sent you are importing why is it not yet cheap since dangota has not started selling fuel |

Streetinvestor2: Oga StreetInvestor, no mind dem jare. When it comes to attacking entrepreneurs, Dangote go dey sweet dem belle like his sugar to run their mouth sef. Some people know that certain sectors require significantly geometric capital investments, which usually leads to a few players in that sector. As a matter of fact, the four great men who built the industrial revolution in America took the same route as well. Why don't they attack the CBN for making the entry barrier of capital base to get a banking license to be as high as the NetCom building in Lagos? Don't we know that the owners of many of the current banks got their licences with significantly low amounts compared to requirements we have today. 🙄 It has always been Dangote this! Dangote that! If e easy, make dem do crowd-funded SPV go set up their own refinery na. My people say that if you want chop frog, chop the one wey get egg inside am. 🤷🏽♂️ |
