Amnesty International, global human rights organisation, has reported that over 1000 Nigerians who participated in a nationwide protest against worsening hunger and misgovernance are currently being held in prison custody across the country.

The organisation criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu for responding to the peaceful protests with a crackdown, rather than addressing the economic issues that are exacerbating hunger and harming families.

According to the Amnesty International, at least 632 protesters are being held in Kano State, while over 109 are being detained in Sokoto prison custody.

The organisation expressed concerns over the mass arrests and called for a more constructive approach to addressing the protesters' grievances.

In the statement shared on social media, the organisation wrote: "Instead of addressing people’s concern on the economy, the Nigerian authorities embarked on crackdown.

"So far, over 1000 people have been remanded over the protest against hunger.

"At least 632 protesters have been remanded in Kano, while over 109 were remanded in Sokoto prison.]

The innocent ones among them should be released

I don't understand the reason for this high-handedness and the violent suppression of the ongoing protest from the government

If your government is doing well, nobody will protest against you, Tinubu is becoming too tyrannical, he's insensitive to the plights of the nigerian people

Our constitution provides for fundamental rights which are inalienable rights.

Instead of Thïefnubu to address the hunger and hardship in the land, he is busy clamping down on protesters.

The druggie is fast turning into a bloody tyrant. But most of us aren't surprised by the events of today.
It's the sad reality of where emilokan politics has brought this corn3.

Tinubu knew Buhari was a disaster, but still went ahead to package him for Nigerians and watched him crumble the Economy for 4 +another 4years, just to take his turn to rule and to fulfil his selfish and wicked emilokan ambition.

People are hungry and crying and have resulted to protest and you are arresting them? Make it make sense. Honestly this is not the asiwaju I know and was told about, he's entirely a different thing as president.

see premium gaslighting from bodies sponsored by foreign organizations. Have they counted the number arrested in the UK for protests? Have they counted the number of things damaged and looted in the protests? Have they counted the number of innocent people hampered and affected by the attacks and actions of the protesters? Did they remember to mention that any arrest made was not for protest but for violent and inimical behaviour of the said protesters. Are you aware that these people reporting are not reporting for justice but for more funds? Use your God given brains.

A leader vs a tragedy.

Peaceful protest was hijacked in Kano and Sokoto. Kudos to the security forces for protecting the lives of innocent citizens. There are several law abiding citizens from the North and different parts of Nigeria in those cities and one could imagine the state of fear they live in right now.

Nigerian leaders can only loot Nigeria's coffers and not another country's. When they launder the money abroad, the leaders of those countries will still call them lifeless, they will refuse to shake hands with Nigerian leaders, neither will they recognize them in important gatherings because they are riffraffs to those outsiders. Monkey characteristics (truly, blacks are monkeys and sub-humans).

Enabler of bad governance how? I have never denied supporting asiwaju but I won't ever support the untold hardship he has brought upon Nigerians, I've always kicked against how he's going with his administration
