There was apprehension in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Wednesday morning as armed thugs attacked peaceful demonstrators during the #EndBadGovernance protest.

Politics Nigeria reports that armed thugs positioned themselves directly opposite the Federal Secretariat in Port Harcourt, intimidating and chasing away protesters.

Eyewitnesses say two protesters were beaten while police officers stood by and did nothing.

A ChannelsTV correspondent was also surrounded and threatened by the thugs, who stated they were there to ensure no protest takes place.

The Federal Secretariat on the Port Harcourt /Aba express road has been a gathering point for the protesters for the past seven days of the hunger and end bad governance protest.

The inaction of over 20 police officers, who witnessed these events but did nothing calls to question the security and the protection of the right to protest in Rivers State.

When contacted, the Rivers State Police Commissioner, Olatunji Disu expressed concern over the incident, promising a thorough investigation to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences.

It would be recalled that Rivers State Commissioner of Police who visited the protest sites severally in the past days, promised to ensure that his men remained professional as well ensure peace and orderliness.

Disu at some point had offered light refreshment to the peaceful protesters in Port Harcourt, as his way of thanking them for remaining peaceful and law abiding .

Wednesday makes it Day 7 of the nationwide protest which later turned violent in some Northern states of the federation.

Earlier, the police in River said men of the command have been instructed to arrest and prosecute those guilty of causing violence during the protest.

These thugs are just a reflection of the chaos that the protesters have brought upon themselves. It's no surprise that journalists are caught in the crossfire; they should have known better than to cover these misguided protests.

Chai! What a pathetic story! The situation has become unbearable that is why Nigerians are protesting. Nigerians have chosen protest as a means of survival then no one can stop them from protesting as it is their fundamental right to do so. He asked for more time. Time to do what? What policies have the govt made that have been beneficial to Nigerians - a government that failed from day one in removing subsidies and floating the Naira without any preparation?

Neither have it shown remorse by recklessly increasing taxes, borrowing and spending, buying SUVs while the citizens bear the brunt of a hopeless economy. Nigerians can not continue to fold their arms & allow bad government to continue to kill them.

Imagine the staggering monies he has borrowed & still borrowing since last year, yet things are getting worse as cost of living continues to rise. The truth is that the Nigerian political structure is flawed as it doesn’t foster unity. Nigeria’s institutions have been weakened and compromised by those who seek to undermine democracy.

Tinubu can not succeed because of the corrupt and nepotistic structures of his govt. Those who believe that he has any plan on how to salvage Nigeria’s economy are only wasting their time. The government is only good at taxing Nigerians, borrowing to loot & pushing propaganda to divide the masses.

Tinubu can not and will not change the status quo that brought him to power. So let Tinubu and those in government find a lasting solution to the problems affecting Nigerians or resign if they don’t know what to do. Nigerians are already dying over harsh economic conditions, and many more will perish before 2027 if nothing done to avert the total break down of order and collapse of Nigeria’s economy.

This is the trademark of the tyrannical regime! Pro-government protesters are always peaceful. But anything against government always have a nasty outcome. However, this has always ended up strengthening the resolve of the determined citizens to assert their rights to civil protests against bad governance.

So much for peaceful protests. Just a bunch of people looking for trouble.

The thugs are just doing what the police should have done—cleaning up the mess. Nigeria and its never-ending drama.

They are just trying to gas it up.

The protest flopped cos it achieved nothing. Instead, it makes people more terrified of headless protest going forward.

You will only see Igbos calling Wike's name like he is the cause of the unknown gunmen issue in Igbo land. Asari made some threats last week, but naah!!!.. It must be Wike. You dream, eat, and breathe WIKE.

Charlatans! If they apprehend one of you and ask that you connect the alleged assault of protesters to Wike, you will begin to speak Swahili.

Una say protest no concern una, but everyday na una dey fan the embers of violence. Go and read the comments of some Igbo miscreants calling for violence in Port Harcourt on Opera News and Twitter. They were even calling for Wike's house to be burnt down.

If the protest no concern una as una don talk, then shut the phock up! Una just dey hyper for naught. 2023 election don dey over.

Get over the pain of 2023! Wike rejected Obi's offer. It's nothing personal, just politics.

It's disheartening to see how far some individuals are willing to go to disrupt peace. These thugs are nothing but a reflection of the chaos that festers in our society. Instead of fostering dialogue, they choose violence and intimidation. What kind of future are they envisioning?

Lol. Asari even called them a particular insulting word, but we haven't heard one rebuke from their political leaders and their minions. They are afraid of Asari Dokubo.

They are not peaceful protester, most of them have their own agenda. Like the day before yesterday, they were shouting that Tinubu must go,that they want Peter Obi as president, instead of them to shout that they want things to come down, and most of them are not even from Rivers state. I decided to ask one of them which state he is from,he said that he's from Akwa ibom. Can you imagine? 🤦🚶🚶

And the most important thing is, none of them are protesting in their states, but they want to cause chaos in others people state.

The Drug Baron said it’s his turn to rule Nigeria (Emilokan). He never promised Nigerians good governance.

Blame those who voted for him!
Blame the Batists aka Ronus and INEC!
