Most Nigerian Leaders Should Be Behind Bars, Gallows – Obasanjo by Kuginzi: 7:42am On Aug 10
Former Nigeria President, Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday, expressed disapproval at the current state of the country, saying that the majority of its leaders should be behind bars or gallows instead of public offices.

Obasanjo, who spoke while addressing six lawmakers from the House of Representatives, maintained that in choosing good leaders, characters must be considered and questioned.

The former president asserted that until leaders changed their mentality, the country would never see the change it desired.

“Our main problem is ourselves and until we take care of ourselves, we may have one term of four years, one term of six years, one term of seven years, if it’s the same people and same mentality and way we do things, then it won’t change.

“Yes system, yes democracy, we have to rethink democracy, we have to rethink the form of government, but what is the character of the people in government?

“With all due respect, most of them should be behind bars, some should even be in the gallows and that is the truth.

"Now if these are the people that are ruling us, then what do you expect? So, the point is the character of the people that are coming to the government. Their attributes, the sort of people they truly are.

“We need to really think about how we select leaders, what should be the character of a leader we select? What should be their track record ?

“Where should we find them? Are they role models? And I think those are the first things we have to think about,” he stated.

The lawmakers’ entourage included Abdulmalik Danga from Kogi, Dr Usman Midala from Borno, Matthew Nwogu from Imo, Peter Aniekwe from Anambra, Kama Nkemkanma from Ebonyi and Ugochinyere Ikenga from Imo.

I think that Obasanjo is the reason Obidient Movement failed in 2023. Obidients should have rejected his support. It's either Obasanjo has suffered a memory loss for saying this, or he thinks we've all lost our own memories. Imagine...
With all due respect, most of them should be behind bars, some should even be in the gallows and that is the truth.

You may not like OBJ but he's spitting facts here!
There's no decent society that will allow the travesty whereby a known politician played host to bullion vans on the eve of elections and not have him locked up behind bars for election malpractice and vote buying.
The terrible irony is that same individual is sitting atop the pyramid today. So let's see who will talk against vote buying now.
Also with him is a man who claimed to single-handedly purchase nomination forms and handed them over to his surrogates like a man gifting kids akara.
He should be guilty of abuse of office but what do you know about laws in this part of the universe.
They certainly dobale and even roll on the floor for some persons.

Baba Obasanjo is always dropping truth bombs!

The man speaks from a wealth of experience, and it’s high time we start holding our leaders accountable.

Those who have failed the people should face the music, no hiding place!

Let’s hope this message resonates with the younger generation to demand better governance.

Like the former vice president Prof Osinbajo once said, the reason people steal with reckless abandon here is because they know there are no consequences..

Until people that steal public funds are publicly executed the China style, the malaise would continue. Governors and people everywhere in government steal and misappropriate government funds anyhow they like and get away with it.

A former governor in Kano is daring the court if with evidence of having converted LG allocations and other funds into dollars for personal use.. Governors in power convert their allocations to dollars immediately they receive them and the so-called Financial Intelligence Unit and EFCC have not been able to do anything about them.

A governor was recently reported to want to use 2.3billion to renovate the deputy governor's lodge.. another in Zamfara budgeted billions for Kitchen Utensils..and you know what, they would get away it. They have used billions for the Governor's Lodge in the past budgets and now the next is the Deputy. Why would a Deputy Governor have a Lodge in Abuja in a serious decent and prudent Society?! 🤔. In a country that wears the crown as the poverty capital of the world.

See how a runaway former Kogi governor who was reported to have stolen 80billion is confidently asking the EFCC to come and try him in his home state..

Several uncountable cases abound as we speak, the stealing spree is ongoing unabated because there are no consequences.. those that stole in the past only need to get a good SAN and the case would be in court for 15years. They have used corruption and stealing to bring the country to its knees helplessly.

This is the society we have built and the result stares all of us in the face. Extreme Poverty and Hunger!

Yeye politicians, they know how to get Nigerians. Tell them what they want to hear, just like Tinubu telling Nigerians what they want to hear
