ABSOLUTELY

I personally know 3 people (FEDERAL CIVIL SERVANTS) who have travelled abroad in the past 3 - 5 years and still receives FULL SALARY AND ALLOWANCES TILL DATE.
THIS COUNTRY IS A VERY BIG MESS.

DURING COVID, PLANES WERE LANDING IN SOME PARTS OF THE NORTH TO CARRY AND STEAL ILLEGALLY MINED GOLD AND THE ACTIVITIES STILL CONTINUES.

EVERY DAY, THOUSANDS OF LITERS OF REFINED AND UNREFINED OIL THAT NIGERIA PAID SUBSIDY FOR IS STOLEN OUT TO NEIGHBOURING COUNTRIES LIKE BENIN, TOGO, NIGER, CAMEROUN AND EVEN GHANA.

A LOT OF NIGERIANS ON PREPAID METERS ARE USING FREE ELECTRICITY, BECAUSE THEY'VE DONE ILLEGAL BYPASS....

THIS COUNTRY IS SERIOUSLY DOOMED!

Yes 🤚 these same set of people will abuse of the government and abuse the nation Nigeria 🤔

U can see our problem is really not the leaders but ourselves because even if one of Dem get to d power the will do the same because we have been seeing the blueprint now

This is a real thing. Back in 2008 to 20015 or so there was a Director in the Ministry of Mines & Steel or whatever it was that basically lived in Europe! No joke!

Why not simply abolish the ministry and sell off all the mines and factories to private investors and be done with it all. Even if Ajaokuta is sold for $1, it's still better than generating this level of losses every year. That's simple economic math, but THE NIGERIAN PEOPLE will never support that, they want the government to FIGHT CORRUPTION.

The PEOPLE of Nigeria support such laws, that's why they get passed.

Congrats to that Senator Akpokiti or whatever, this is one of her causes that got her elected by Kogi people. She just kept spinning tales of how a corrupt cabal was determined to keep the people of that State from enjoying the riches of Ajaokuta.

I watched some of her speeches on video and I couldn't stop laughing. Her whole schtick is that the government must not sell Ajaokuta but make it work.... to the point of your comment, the people voted for her. The woman is good, I tell you. grin

Good Luck to Nigeria.

Right from independence
Very corrupt
Very wasteful
Very senseless people in government.
Not just Ajaokuta there are many others, INCLUDING NNPC, How many litres of fuel have those bastards refined in the past 12 years?

The Wastages and Corruption Entities:
_What has been the Contribution of these Moribond Entities, including DISCOS - to Nigerian Development, that everyday is Light- Off and more Darkness?
-Do you know that GEJ - under PDP ,Sold NEPA, they then rebranded it as DISCOS and it was sold to those in Nigerians-who couldn't perform or have Ideas of how Electricity are Run-when they were in the Services -but these DISCOS -are collecting Money -light or no Light 🚨 and they have no single Patriotism in them.
-So,it's not about Party but - Characters and Performance - which many since 1979 Democracy took effects and they were not ready to Change !
- all the Past Military Rulers, too ,with a Few exceptions, were all involved.
- All the past Governors and Ministers, with very Few exceptions - e.g Dezani, were all involved in Scamming Nigeria, even Some Local governments Officials, too.
• their Mission is to Steal the Resources as their Own,not to better Nigeria- and they gang-up against Nigeria.
• Same Cabals that were deceiving the People of different Regions - are still there- they fight in different SECTORS e.g Oil Cabals, fighting Dangote, they Created Malta- Oil,for themselves, not because they have any better Plans Or Jobs for Nigerians Masses or the Youths. They then try to Create Employments- For Other Countries Youths and Collect their Own Share in Dubai,London,Europe, America or Canada,etc- where they hides!
Very Shameful indeed.

There are certain governmental laws and principles that should be sacrosanct irrespective of what the people thinks. This is how democracy works in the west.

We can't just say because we are practicing democracy ,therefore the people out of their ignorance, should be allowed to destroy their own economy at the long term by the way they think

Thank God for NYSC programme which took me to Niger state.
I have seen the Ajaokuta Steel Mill in its location near the axis of the Niger bridge in Kogi state.
Lol! The atmosphere of that area in Kogi state is extremely cold or chilly at night.
I have been battered by Kogi state chilly nights anytime I go on night bus, journeying from Niger state to the SE and back.
Anytime I pass this moribund Steel Mill in my numerous journeys,I keep asking " What exactly is the problem stopping it from going operational?

If you look very well and investigate further, you'll discover that the alleged workers didn't see 30 percent of the monies. Government officials in charge had stolen the monies in guise of paying workers.

When I said we need somebody like Idi Amin to rule this country, you think it’s a joke..

Give me one reason why they shouldn’t kill all those that have been receiving money they didn’t work for, for 10 years..?
If you think that the workers actually collected the whole 38.9 billion, then you don't understand the propensity of corruption in Nigeria very well. The money paid to workers cannot be more than 2 billion for the 10 year period while the ogas on top pockets everything. It's intentional that they kept the workers there en when there is no job for them. It's for the purpose of syphoning cash.

It should be auctioned off to private buyers and the money should either be used to build the latest one the market has, or used to invest in shares in a similar project managed by a private company

Good Luck to Nigeria.
The sensibe thing to do is to fight corruption irrespective of whether it is sold or not. If you leave corruption, you end up with a petrol subsidy scenario. It has been reintroduced today after all the cry about scrapping it. In fact the one who scrapped it is the one who reintroduced it. The country needs to be free from corruption more than any single other thing. Govt should make attempt to sell to competent and reputable group with ample experience in steel industry or excellent business minds like Dangote that can take that plant to the next level. Above all, a sizable stake should be maintained by the govt, that will minimize the volume of forex needed for profit repatriation(if sold to a foreign incestor), as well as split the profit with the govt and thus the people.
The problem is every group in power want to own as much of the country as possible. Even if sold for $1 as you opined, it is still a function of who buys and runs it that will determine if the profit comes back to govt and the people.
If that plant is sold to me for $1 because I am connected somehow, I can turn around, do some shady upgrade and resell it for much more to a bigger steel industry player. The key here is getting rid of corrupt practices and retaining vital stake in the business.

The same NLC is complaining about excesses in government spending while these agencies under the nose of the NLC are the worst. Hypocrites
