The Nigerian Senate has strongly refuted recent allegations suggesting that it determines its own salaries or receives special financial packages from the Presidency.

The claims, which emerged during a visit by members of the House of Representatives to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, have ignited public concern.

In a statement issued by Senate Spokesman Yemi Adaramodu, who represents Ekiti South, the Senate labeled the allegations as an attempt to “crucify the legislature by the centurions of political hypocrisy.”

Senator Adaramodu clarified that no Senator has received any financial patronage from the Presidency.

He explained that the constituency projects often associated with the legislature are suggested and nominated by Senators, consistent with practices in other democratic nations.

The chamber challenged anyone with credible evidence to present alternative facts, dismissing suggestions that the National Assembly fixes its own salaries as “uncharitable and satanic.”

Furthermore, the Senate clarified that the Executive arm of government, through its various Ministries and agencies, is responsible for awarding contracts for constituency projects.

Adaramodu reassured the public of the 10th Assembly’s commitment to being a “responsible and responsive chamber.”

The Senate reaffirmed its dedication to upholding Nigeria’s economic and developmental goals, insisting that it adheres to constitutional allocations and does not seek additional perks from other branches of government.

Sometimes i am worried, that if Baba Iyabo passes on who will be able to look the governement in the face and say the truth.

1-He stood up to Abacha, when everybody else was afraid.

2-He Paid down the total national debts, when he was president.
(While still paying petrol and forex subsidy)

3-He stood up to the cabal when Yaradua died and goodluck jonathan's succession was in doubt.

4-Wrote a harsh letter to GEJ, when his financial excesses were deemed too much.

5-Has currently cautioned Tinubu that his subsidy removal and fiscal policies are not lower-cadre citizens friendly.

6-He has now come out to say NASS salary fixing is immoral.

We cant help but write this mans name in history.

Chief Olusegun Mathew Okikiola Aremu Obasanjo, GCFR,
Balogun of Owu.

We are never getting a replacement again when he passes on. Look around you, do we have individuals in the calibers of Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Tai Solarin, Fela Anikulapo Kuti? The answer is no.

Most of the elders and leaders we've got left do not truly believe in Nigeria and will never risk their lives for it.

I thought keyamo was going the route of Gani Fawehinmi...not knowing he was a hungry dog waiting for a juicy bone.
Wole Soyinka should have replaced Tai Solarin, but the man has been dining with politicians like he doesn't have a pension plan.
Idrees Abdulkareem has tried, but he just doesn't have the international recognition Fela Anikulapo had.

We have a senate running amok, they believe they are not answerable to anyone. If at all anything they believe they are more powerful than the president because they can vote to impeach him.
The legislative arm of government needs to be tackled and cut down to size. Thats why Akpabio makes some crazy comments every now and then. In his mind he is the Alpha and Omega of Nigerian government.

I know right? I knew when Keyamo started with Gani and I had high hopes for him thinking we had a Gani replacement but alas, dud has always been about what he stands to gain. I believe he used Gani to gain popularity. He is all hype and no substance, a common politician.

Just Imagine Gani standing in-front of the military with guns pointed and cocked while he dared them to shoot him. That guy was a complete badass.

No Nigerian senate president could impeach a Nigerian president…. Go and check again…. If it was that easy Saraki could have impeached Buhari….

Nothing stops the satanic EFCC from coming after any senator because they don’t have immunity clause

No, this has nothing to do with the EFCC. EFCC fights financial crimes. RMAFC (Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission) fixes the salaries of politicians. Those people should be the target of the next protest. They are appointed by the president to do their bidding. They must slash the salaries of these politicians.

Everybody knows EFCC is Tinubu's attack dog
They will never go after any senator unless he falls out with the powers that be.
We are in a corrupt system.
EFCC is “politicization of law enforcement.”

I agree with you, we need the voices of people like Obasanjo to push these people to do their jobs, Tinubu does not have the balls to do it, The other former presidents are too timid to lend a voice.

Tinubu’s body gesture hasn’t shown that he has the tendency to attack with EFCC like Buhari did … My point is EFCC should be scrapped because they are useless

Gani was a badass. He had a scholarship program as well, He gave monetary scholarships to a lot of us, he did not know any of us from Adam, he gave to anybody regardless of background, ethnicity, religion.
May his soul rest in peace. That was when Nigerian had Men that "stood on business" and couldn't be compromised.

If you ask me there should be:

1. Congressional Oversight

• Role: Congressional committees, such as the Senate Judiciary Committee and House Oversight Committee, conduct oversight of the EFCC. E.g When they broke into a womans hotel room. EFCC Chairman should be queried.
• Function: These committees should hold hearings, review actions, and can issue reports or recommendations regarding EFCC operations and appointments.

2. Special Counsel and Independent Investigations

• Role: Special counsels or independent investigations can be appointed to oversee investigations involving high-level officials.
• Function: These appointments are designed to provide additional oversight and prevent conflicts of interest. (Yahya Bello's case should also be brought to the public, he should be charged to court with EFCC being the government's plaintiff and Yahya Bello being the defendant, lets hear both sides.)

I would have preferred Obasanjo's third term to Buhari's 2 terms
Not supporting Obasanjo 3rd term bid.....But see where we are today.
We owe so much, we are only able to service the debts(pay the interest)
And we are servicng the old debts with new debt.

Obasanjo paid all of Nigeria's Debt, while paying petrol and forex subsidy at the same time !

Tinubu is yet to pay anyone the 70k
We owe approximately $110 billion dollars in total national debt.
Tinubu has already borrowed at least $6.5 billion in addition to the previous.
Obasanjo paid down the Debt, since he left they have been increasing the Debt.
Now they are increasing the debt without paying petrol or forex subsidy.
