[img][/img][img][/img]"I'm going to say that again: anyone who wants to run for public office who cannot detach their religious affiliation—I'm not saying deny your faith, but if you cannot choose the nation over the church or the mosque—then you are not in a place to run for public office because, as a public office holder, your allegiance is to the nation, not to the religious organization.

So, Professor Yim spoke about Nigeria as a country copying America, but the America of today that Nigeria is copying has no relationship with the Puritan values of the 1800s. This is not even a time to use the backdrop of America as something beautiful to copy from. As a nation, Nigeria needs to come up higher. America is a nation in crisis, and it did not begin today. The Judeo-Christian values that were available in the 1800s are no longer available today. Just look at the way the nation is being run—I'm talking about America right now. In fact, I see a lot of people from Nigeria quoting, "What about Singapore? What about Korea?" But again, I just want to encourage those quoting Singapore or Asian nations: if you have not spent time living in these nations or diving deep into their conduct and how they run, do not use these examples. It's the same error that Professor Yim made when he talked about the church being the pillar that built Singapore. That cannot be further from the truth. The church was not responsible for building Singapore. Singapore was built by a people of process, and that is what Nigeria needs to emulate.

Nigeria does not need to transfer power to the church; the church does not have it. The church is responsible for a majority of the problems Nigeria is in right now. Unfortunately, you are not the vice president of the church; you are the vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. You needed to have put them in their place and called them to order. You needed to stand up for your boss and for the nation of Nigeria. You had the opportunity to bring regulatory order into the church, but you did not. I don't know, perhaps this speech is part of preparation for a new political run or office, but frankly, it does not matter.

First, when we talk about the role of the church in nation-building, we must be talking about a church that is sound in the first place. A church that can self-govern, that knows right from wrong, that is virtuous, that is not corrupt, and that actually stands on the principles of the Lord Jesus. The interesting thing is that the Nigerian church has none of those qualities as it stands today. The Nigerian church lacks the discipline to self-correct. If someone came from space and landed in Nigeria and saw what Christianity is all about through the lens of the Nigerian church, they wouldn’t want to be part of that organization, especially after looking at the Bible and comparing it to the church’s activities.

You have organizations like CAN (Christian Association of Nigeria), which is a figurehead organization. You have the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, which is another figurehead. Each of the different churches is left to their own interpretation of scripture, and things have essentially broken down into pieces. So right now, the state of the Nigerian church is that it lacks the discipline to self-correct. Because of this, there needs to be an intervention, a methodical intervention at that.

Professor Yemi Osinbajo spoke about Nigeria as a country copying America, and then he mentioned an interesting example about European society, particularly the Germans, and their value of work. But then he ventured into murky waters, talking about America, saying the values of the church built America. Yes, that might be right in the 1800s when Puritans came from England to America and built different institutions. But the America of today that Nigeria is copying has no relationship with the Puritan values of the 1800s. To use America as an example today is totally off because the state of the American church today is nothing to emulate.

Those values built America in the 1800s, but America today is not in the 1800s. The Judeo-Christian values of the 1800s are no longer available today in America. America is struggling as a country, so using it as an example is out of touch. Moreover, much of what you see happening in America today is a direct or indirect result of migration from different nations, including Nigeria. Many of those Nigerians were discipled by the church, so citing America is out of touch.

He also mentioned Singapore. As a matter of fact, I see a lot of people from Nigeria quoting Singapore or Korea. Again, I just want to encourage those quoting these nations: if you have not spent time living there or diving deep into their conduct, do not use these examples. It’s the same error that Professor Yim made when he talked about the church being the pillar that built Singapore. That cannot be further from the truth. The nation of Singapore was built by a people of process, and that is what Nigeria needs to emulate. Nigeria does not need to transfer power to the church; the church does not have it. The church is responsible for the majority of the problems in Nigeria today. The church is responsible for teaching the youth corruption. The church has set bad precedents and bad examples. You have preachers from the pulpit condemning the president because they do not like him, ignoring what scripture tells them about their leaders" - Ebenezer Gabriels

What?? Your conclusion is brilliant and well understood though. The church of today is nothing like what was described in the bible.

But what is puritanical or Christian about rebelling against the authority of the sovereign state (the crown in England) in a violent insurrection to establish your own state?

What is puritanical or Christian about ploughing your fields and creating produce using humans you have purchased like chattel and termed "slaves" ??

He was the vice president and not the Pope.
This post is even more absurd when we consider that their is no "pope"
for Nigerian christians who are mainly pentecostals.
