elyte89:I don't know if he has lost his tactical touch or not but we have to be sure. And it's not wise to give him the job under the same circumstance he has failed before, which is on rescue mission. If he gets the job now and fails to qualify us for WC, will he be allowed to continue or will it be concluded that he is not fit to coach the super eagles because he failed under already messed up situation? just like some think of Finidi now. NFF has already set things up for any coach to fail including you, if he get the job now,he is more likely to fail and cause more damage to his career. If there will be clause for him to continue whether he secure the WC ticket or not, then it's fine. On Zidan, u can't compare a renowned coach,a three times champions league winner to someone who is yet win any trophy. Arsene Wenger and Alex Ferguson stand 100% chance of getting SE job if they decide to come out of retirement than Siasia and all these names flying around as their(NFF) possible choice. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Hoffenheim and Frankfurt have strong interest in Jordan Torunarigha. He is considering a move to the Bundesliga, but there are also talks with Italian teams. A transfer fee of between 3 and 4 million euros is being discussed. [ @ErikOleee ] |

Marjoribanks:In my estimation formed from my long time membership of this thread, Joebie can hardly be described as tribal. I don't even know his exact ethnic group but I think he's either ijaw or urhobo. So if we say he's or anyone for that matter is tribal, how many times have we seen him push urhobo or ijaw agenda here in terms of football or politics (when we stray into that topic)? |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Mujtahida: 11:23am On Aug 17 |
humility33:I think your conclusion as per your statement in bold is wrong. So if I advocate for a player who is from my ethnic group, that automatically makes me a tribalist? Over the years the bulk of our players in our national team are mostly Yorubas, Igbos with a fair sprinkling of Niger - Deltans and northerners. How then can any Yoruba or igbo person escape your conclusion, if he lauds a player from his place. I think this is how forgiveness came to be branded as a tribalist. In truth, I can hardly point at any person on this thread who as far as footballing matters go is a tribalist. I've seen all the guys on this thread advocate for players outside their ethnic group. And in fact we don't even know the ethnic origin of 99% of the members of this thread. And let me tell you guys the truth. Those who are quick to accuse and label others on this thread are responsible for bringing the rot of tribalism into this thread. Cos once that accusation is made, the accused will be constrained to defend himself and in doing so, the back and forth on tribalism is sustained. And humility33 yes I can say you are not tribal and even hate tribalism but don't be quick as you often do to accuse others of tribalism. If you see a post that suggests tribalism, ignore it. That effectively kills it. 3 Likes |

TheGoodJoe:I think one's background plays a huge role in whether they have a pan - Nigerian or narrow tribal outlook. I grew up on the Airforce base in Makurdi and till date just by looking at a person or hearing him speak I can tell where he or she's from. And that's because our interaction cut across virtually all the ethnic groups in Nigeria and we grew up with that sense that we are a community. My first real contact with the practical demonstration of ethno - religious sentiment was when I went to University in Zaria and when I joined nairaland. It was shocking and I used to get annoyed by it but not anymore. Not many people have the privilege of the kind of background you have. I put the blame squarely on our leaders especially those of the first republic. Compare them to a person like Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore and see the difference in their orientation. While Lee quickly realized that Singapore composed of Chinese, Malays and other sub-nationals, he ensured that the state adopted a strict policy of merit and neutrality. That is the magic that transformed Singapore to the height it now occupies. (Lee was in Nigeria in January 66 for the commonwealth conference, when he saw our leaders, he said we were not going to succeed as a nation because we were too tribal) And indeed what did our own leaders do? They dug down their heels and jostled for political advantage strictly on tribal lines. I will nevertheless say that they loved their people sincerely and they are still 100 times better than this present crop of useless politicians. 8 Likes 2 Shares |
