Tellmeastory: Mr Obi hid money in a secret bank account in Panama, in his daughter's name. A few other Nigerian politicians were named in the scandal. Panama is a small country in South America where you can safely hide dirty money in secret bank accounts. Check Google for 'Obi Panama account scandal'. It should come up with the details. Tellmeastory: As a political office holder (Governor), Mr Obi was forbidden by law from operating a foreign bank account without declaring it. As Governor, Mr Obi tried to bypass this requirement by operating the Panama account in his daughter's name. When he was caught, he said he was not aware of the law  Like I said, oher Nigerian politicians do hide money in secret accounts in other people's name (usally their children) abroad. So, Mr Obi was not alone. The only laughable thing is that he parades himself as a saint who is totally different from other politicians, and his supporters believe him 100%. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Maybe Soludo and the rest knows doing such doesn't come easy. They're trying to do what they can afford without plunging their states into further unproductive debts. For pointers, Lagos owes about 30% of the external debt among states in Nigeria. Also Lagos owes about a trillion naira in domestic debt, about thrice the closest indebted state. Those projects don't come at a cheap price. |

brain54: They have this political culture that any politician who gets into office deserves to recoup his money. They see political office as just another business venture that requires returns on investments. When you consider the very low tax rates and abysmal IGR generation in their states and also see that their states depend mostly on FG handouts, you will understand why they give their elected politicians a free pass. Their elected officials keep most of their commonwealth to themselves without even providing the most basic social amenities outside road constructions that they get huge kickbacks from. This is why Obi could tell them boldly to their faces that he was not going to fund public services like building new schools and hospitals and that it was everyman for himself. Obi will then take their commonwealth and invest it in his own private portfolio. They have zero say in how their governors spend their federal handouts but will carry their busybody to other states and the federal level to be forming advocates of good governance and transparency while promoting their crooked politicians as the only solution (see Obi and Otti). Their case is one of not abiding by the very basic principles of charity begining at home and leading by example. 2 Likes |

Max24: There's this shadow company known as Globim that was used about the same time by the governors of Anambra, Abia and Ebonyi to float an elephant monorail project. Obi signed an MoU with this company to build the Onitsha monorail. The governors of Abia and Enugu also signed MoUs with this front to construct municipal monorails I'm their respective state capitals. You can Google Globim and Enugu, Abia and Anambra monorail project . That company was used as a front to pay for consultancy and feasibility studies and nothing more . An obvious scam money laundry project.
