That is why I am seriously against what Tinubu's government is doing trying so hard to stop Nigerian youths especially those in healthcare profession from migrating abroad to improve their career and lives. Imagine Tinubu via the Ministry of Health instructed Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to shutdown verification portal for Nigerian Nurses and Midwives just to stop them from traveling abroad to work or study further, is that not wickedness of the highest order?
The argument by them is that we should not be subsidising other people's medical systems considering we don't have enough funds. That those who graduate from those institutions should work in Nigeria. I pity those who study at private universities such as Redeemer University and ABUAD. However, I argue that more medical universities should be built so we export our people to garner superior knowledge and experience. We should export the greatest resource we have and get more in remittances. India now reaps the benefit of some of her intellectual class returning as they cannot obtain Green Cards in the US. Also, most people who japa'd recently will return, especially as the backlash towards immigration increases. This is my prognostication.

But I have a reason why there seems to be opposition to our nurses leaving. If I talk, dem go say I be tribalist. As for verification, you stated in one of our conversations that the US does not care about it. Only the UK and maybe the Gulf States do. The alternative to such a blanket ban will be to have these medical professionals pay an exit fee as payment for the subsidised education or omit private universities from the ban. They will generate more as employees in the abroad.

Please someone need to create a thread on this topic of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria shutting down their verification portal for Nigerian Nurses and Midwives just to stop them from migrating abroad to work or further their nursing education. Such thread need to hit the front page as soon as possible, can you work on that?
Sorry, I cannot. The bans wey I chop because of this thread is enough. Any thread with references and pictures will be on my under-construction website. Nairaland's mods and Seun need to work on the anti-spam bot.

Engineering is actually the most relevant course to study in the world.

Civil
Mechanical
Electrical
Agriculture
Chemical
Safety

The world cannot do without these disciplines.

Even when you study these courses, you'd be happy and glad, even if you don't have a job yet, but there will be fulfillment in you.

You'd always grow and develop in Engineering. You are not limited to one line of thought.

but the world can do without medicine, agriculture, etc

Stop it o but some people love calling color blue color red as long as it suits them. Universities and polytechnics serve different purposes, and frankly only a craze person would choose a polytechnic over a university given that choice. It doesn't change the fact that many top university-level people will go to the polytechnic and excel in their future roles, that still won't make a polytechnic a university grin

Officially known as WASSCE, but popularly known as WAEC, the organising body. It is the exam Nigerian students write to at the end of their secondary school education. It is also written by students in the West African sub-region. One of the major prerequisites for entry into tertiary institutions across the world. For easy understanding, both WAEC and WASSCE will be used interchangeably. For some people, I could not find anything, so it is stated as “nothing was found”. If you know such persons, kindly comment.

A further research may also prove that stability of one's parents is highly needed for success.

Why are there no Reality Tv shows for such talents? Food for thought you do the dishing.

It's good to Japa but look for opportunities there and bring it back home. I graduated, top of my class in my time, also japad to school in America. I came back with opportunities and they keep adding up. Strive to be independent else, you'd end up building some else's empire and fortune with your precious time. A lot of members here are enjoying some of those benefits I brought home without noticing. I read of the most-recent one here, of which somebody posted a review and I smiled. If you want to japa on a schooling level, don't spend all your time schooling cos time waits for no man. As soon as you finish, get a job and grow on it. You fit do your PhD while working. If you wan be like us, search for opportunities and bring it back home.

Doing business in the Nigerian terrain could be tough but it still remains one of the greatest investment destinations in africa today. You can argue with the Chinese and Indians who keep thronging our land while the land owners are busy running away without any assurances of future.

I'm not saying this to support the government of the day. I hate them with passion. They're the reason we're this backward today. Instead of investing in the country they've wilfully destroyed, they're busy investing in Ghana, UAE, Malta, etc. If I say vote them out now, their hungry doggs will attack me as usual.
My school mate no japa and he is the owner of one of the companies mentioned on that list where some of those graduates are working for. I.e. moniepoint. So far, he is the most successful person I know on a personal level.

These people and I finished secondary the same year.

Many of us never had a decent secondary school education. Thank God 2e did well in the university.

How I wish no Nigerian will ever cheat in their WAEC exam. We would seen a lot of educated people manning our various aspects of life.

Only God knows how many Nigerians of under 40 alive today sat and passed their WAEC fair and square. God forgive us!

If you see the Indian version eh (where I got the inspiration to create these threads), ALL japa'd! The difference between China and India is that Chinese brilliant students returned after their studies or did not leave. These days, the top Chinese students don't leave China. It is those who could not get high scores but have rich parents who leave for the US, Canada and the UK. Those with above-average brains and small change, but no admission aim at Japan, South Korea and Singapore.

In all, the Chinese aim to return to China after their studies and work experience. Our people and Indians don't do the same.
The reason you see Chinese technology in Africa, they learn from the west and come home to make theirs. If not for China, you and I probably wouldn't be using a phone today.

I don't live in the UK. But if I were with young children, I would do as I stated in that commentary: go to every top university across the country to literally count the number of black students at the undergraduate level in selected departments. I will seek to know their origins and duration in the UK. If there are more students directly from Africa or the Caribbean or even the US than those born, bred and educated in the UK, I will have my children study at any of the top private secondary schools in Nigeria.

On the other hand, I have been reading the comment section on the Telegraph UK and the Financial Times, white Brits have been complaining that their children are being passed upon for students from minority ethnic/racial groups in admission into top universities. If their complaints are accurate and the numbers are exceedingly high, it means it is recently that we have more black children born and bred in the UK who attend top universities in the country. Before this period, the numbers must have been terribly low. To prevent that, my pikin go study for LJC and get into say Oxford. However, the returns on investment for a black professional in the UK are too low. To checkmate that, the US becomes the target. It is unarguably the best place to thrive as a black professional.

Yup, in addition you unconsciously acquire huge academic and technical adaptability and flexibility.

You could study engineering, get bored with it then easily (keyword: easily) switch to medicine, law, pharmacy, accounting, software development, etc. This is not a case of just one or two special breeds doing that, engineering just make it easy to do that and it's just too common. Now, try switching to engineering from another field grin
