I seriously doubt it especially now that many are getting dual citizenship.
Dual citizenship does not make them a native. Only African Americans have the right to say they are native blacks in the US and Canada. Those in the UK entered aeroplane, so they know their papa village and mama house. Having a British passport does not make one English. When time reach, questions will be asked.

P.S. This omits those in the Caribbeans.

Well, he eventually japa but on a different level. Also, he had a good job in the FinTech sector that exposed him to all that he needed, including the partnerships, for his subsequent ventures. He has always been exceptional.

My school mate no japa and he is the owner of one of the companies mentioned on that list where some of those graduates are working for. I.e. moniepoint. So far, he is the most successful person I know on a personal level.

The reason you see Chinese technology in Africa, they learn from the west and come home to make theirs. If not for China, you and I probably wouldn't be using a phone today
Sure. I acknowledge that a few days ago here.

I know they don't believe in a God, but God bless the Chinese. They have been of immense benefit to Africans and everyone else in the Global South.

Majority of them are children of the rich who can pay exorbitant school fees of private schools. At these private schools, they have internal arrangements for making their students excel in examinations. After school, their parents sponsor them further to either another private school or abroad. I can bet that there are students that excel just like the ones you have listed here but here in Nigeria struggling, you should be holistic in your sampling. School is no scam truly but higher education may be scam because is not everybody that is destined to further their education up to tertiary institutions, such people are good in something else.

Some are even billionaires especially those that studies construction related programs like quantity surveying and civil engineering.

The research itself is inconsistent. How many made their ways overseas through scholarships that the selection process was also clear and transparent.
If measuring intelligence is by grades then this research to me is void.
Education itself is multidimensional, there is the personal education, there is the structured education but all to one end, for the betterment of the individual and humanity at large.
Also, we should also emphasize on opportunity awareness, most students don't even know better overseas programs exist yet apply.
So if the education we place so much emphasis was effective, Africa ought not to be where we are, the academicians should have structured more better paths to our transformation.
There is a difference between capacity to retain knowledge and capacity to utilize.
And finally if you have kids or intend having kids, go out of your way to ensure there is sufficient funding for their education

I know a few that did that. Some of the guys are now doctors in the US, Canada, UK e.t.c. That's just life. Pre-campus around ogba during that era was a good example. Extremely expensive grin

But those students too were mostly smart else, they would have struggled at university.

Everybody has his competitive advantage.
As you can see, many (if not all) are career people, no politics, no business not in entertainment, ministry or anything that makes one popular as such. In fact, I do not know one name among them.

Having intelligent power in the area of book doesn't mean they will be good administrator, business tycoon, a good footballer, musician or whichever.

I'm happy for them, God bless them wherever they are.

This.

When I travelled abroad for my 2nd degree and hear of the big student loan alot of the home students have or were paying back, I start realizing that the only thing I gained from Nigeria was the almost free education I got at OAU. Then my accomodation was 90 naira per year. I think it eventually got increased and school fees went up after I graduated as well, but still very low compared to what alot of people are paying in developed countries.

It's good to Japa but look for opportunities there and bring it back home. I graduated, top of my class in my time, also japad to school in America. I came back with opportunities and they keep adding up. Strive to be independent else, you'd end up building some else's empire and fortune with your precious time. A lot of members here are enjoying some of those benefits I brought home without noticing. I read of the most-recent one here, of which somebody posted a review and I smiled. If you want to japa on a schooling level, don't spend all your time schooling cos time waits for no man. As soon as you finish, get a job and grow on it. You fit do your PhD while working. If you wan be like us, search for opportunities and bring it back home.

Doing business in the Nigerian terrain could be tough but it still remains one of the greatest investment destinations in africa today. You can argue with the Chinese and Indians who keep thronging our land while the land owners are busy running away without any assurances of future.

I'm not saying this to support the government of the day. I hate them with passion. They're the reason we're this backward today. Instead of investing in the country they've wilfully destroyed, they're busy investing in Ghana, UAE, Malta, etc. If I say vote them out now, their hungry doggs will attack me as usual.
Nice write up sir.

Very toff especially to run a factory. I also agree with obtaining the minimum degree and garnering experience in it, except for academia.

But why are Nigeria's political elite investing outside their dominant environment? If a country's political elite isn't investing in their country, it means something is wrong somewhere.

If you see the Indian version eh (where I got the inspiration to create these threads), ALL japa'd! The difference between China and India is that Chinese brilliant students returned after their studies or did not leave. These days, the top Chinese students don't leave China. It is those who could not get high scores but have rich parents who leave for the US, Canada and the UK. Those with above-average brains and small change, but no admission aim at Japan, South Korea and Singapore.

In all, the Chinese aim to return to China after their studies and work experience. Our people and Indians don't do the same.
I build Nigerian made inverters here. Finding patronage or wholesalers is difficult. People rather buy the Chinese products. They frustrate all efforts. Mind you, everything from the research to building the business has been self sponsored. No government or friends or banks anywhere to nature a small dream.
I am given a choice to make today between been an electrician or driver in Canada or remaining here in this struggle, I won't remain here obviously

Doing well in life is purely subjective. But all in human and material assessment, these people are well accomplished.

Let's try to fear God in our utterances.

The idea of God is purely Subjective, some see God as a supernatural being while others see it as universal energy with no shape or form.

Let's try not impose our beliefs on others.

we have them is just that they don't show themselves, there's one Abba auwal of Kano state, who scores 9As in the 80s, they couldn't believe it, they send for him to come Lagos and re-write the exams, he wrote it and got 9As still, but currently he is in US
The numbers are negligible. That is the truth. But I am not surprised he is in the US - best place to thrive as a black professional. None comes close, not even sub-Saharan Africa.

But we had Yemi Osinbajo and Peter Obi from best universities too.
I'm not advocating for illiterates in politics, an average person from best universities made for administration will be ok.

Zaccheaus Adelabu is a first accountant from OAU, he was part of failed Ajimobi administration in Oyo State.
Himself again, with another first class Adebayo Adelabu of CBN are still part of Tinubu administration, and nothing special is coming from their ends to prove their brilliancy.
