18months Project of 2007 or there abouts.....almost 20 years still uncompleted-abandoned!

The Katsina state govt is already asking the FG to hand it over to the state......you need not blame a minister who just came in barely a year for the decades of rot we have 8n our energy space. ..... The remains ,he is up and doing and making some progress.

A minister that is not focusing on solar farm installations and manufacturing is destination failure just like Fashola. We have sun reserve I don't know why I am saying what we already know.

We don't need that much because we have and we are using hydro system..they are just backward people, because the system was designed to regress...anyone or entity that enters the system will always fail.

Just end the Rubbish 99 constitution

Very shameful country, a country of over 200 million people battling with 3-4k megawatts of electricity when countries like South Africa generates more than 50k megawatts, Egypt generates more than 40k megawatts and their population is far less than ours and we are still struggling to even generate 4k megawatts despite billions of dollars spent on the power sector

I wish I could share you the video of what he said.
I disliked him with passion before calling for his sacked whenever I see is image online tagging the president but after I made more findings and met people within that sector, I felt sad and sincerely apologise.
The man explained in well detailed terms from problems from 40 years ago to solution and even completed and commissioned projects.
He talked about alternative to hydro I.e wind and solar as backup.
Reason for collapse and what is currently being done to tackle it, revisting abandoned power projects , partnering with home made metering company .
Also, how Nigerians cheats the system bypassing actual payment not knowing that discos purchase gas to power their facilities. So by that , they spend more and receive little .
Right now, I'm commending his little effort and he also acknowledged the fact that there is more to be done.

I hope whatever system they have in place now is sustainable. The deal with Siemens should have been ring fenced instead of this stop and start we've been having. We will find out how far they have gone after the rains

Nigeria is a very power country, when you compare our yearly budget in dolar to other African countries you know that we are a very poor country , also compare our earnings in dollars with other African countries, Egypt is far richer than Nigeria because their economy is more diverse, do you know how much they make from tourism alone

Nigeria is not a poor country but a mismanaged country and that's exactly why we celebrate mediocrity every other day

DeLaRue:

You can't ignore the fact that Nigeria doesn't have the money. 10000 megawatts in Nigeria will cost 3 or 4 times more than it cost in Egypt, due to corruption.

Also Egypt receives hundreds of millions of dollars from the US every year. And receives large grants from the EU. It also gets easy access to billions in investment money and cheap loans from Saudi Arabia, UAE etc Nigeria doesn't have these.

That said, even if Nigeria has the money, fraud and vested interests will sabotage any effort to increase generation by 10000 megawatts in 2 years.

Well, you made my point still

is it not time for our leaders to ask themselves this soul searching question, why is it that what works in other countries don't work in Nigeria? Egypt is currently building the El dabaa power plant that when finished in 2030 will have 4 turbines that will generate 1,2 gigawatts of power or 4,8 GW total, despite the current production capacity of 55,000 megawatts, our so called leaders are not ashamed to project 6000 megawatts for a country of 200 million souls,I will be embarrassed to come out publicly to say such thing,so long as merit, competence and ability are sacrificed on the altars of mediocrity Nigeria will forever remain a bumbling laughing stock in the league of nations

Same country that beat their chest that they'll start producing pencils in before 2020 like it’s some feat.
Still haven’t started production though 🤣😂🤣

Nestle products are not more complex than toothpicks? Or beeers, or soft drinks, or pharmaceuticals or even Innoson vehicles

Nestle is a foreign company. All those soft drinks and beer are from Coca Cola and Pepsi except Hero and those from Nigerian Breweries and I yet they’re all leaving the market slowly. Where is Star today?
Innoson assembles, not produces.
We extract petroleum, yet we don’t even produce petroleum products.

Name your Nigerian companies that produce.

Sha the pencil and toothpick statements were made by minister of works during Bubu’s time. I don’t see how you’re not ashamed for ur country.

The way Swiss are known for Chocolate, even if they don’t have a single cocoa tree. OR how Japan is known for electronics and cars.

The issue here is that it is a propaganda lie of distortion to say that we will produce pencils when we are already producing more complex things.
What specific issue do you have with the above

You should be ashamed for your own ignorance.
Pencil production statement was not made by the works minister. Nigerian produces things more complex than pencils. That is a fact. The minister's propaganda should be seen for what it is, so we can focus on more important economic issues.

Timbi:
igeria will begin production of pencils in the next two years, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has said.

After a facility tour of Projects Development Institute (PRODA), Enugu, Onu said the project would create over 400,000 jobs–in line with the vision of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

He said it was wrong for the country to be importing pencils when it has the capacity to produce them.

“It is unthinkable that 55 years after independence, Nigeria is still not producing pencils when we have the human and material resources in the country to do so.

“PRODA has to produce pencils for Nigeria and they have given me the assurance that this can be done and that with pencil manufacture here we will be creating 400,000 new jobs.

“The Muhammadu Buhari administration is committed to creating new jobs and growing our economy,” he said.
