Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has declared Tuesday, 20 August, 2024 as work-free day for public servants to mark this year’s Isese Day celebration.

Isese means tradition and it has millions of adherents in Yoruba land. The announcement is contained in a circular issued by the State’s Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro.

According to the circular, the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had approved that Tuesday, 20th August, 2024 be declared work-free for public servants in the State.

The circular directed public servants to resume work on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 by 8.00am.

Although the United Nations had declared August 20, as World Traditional Religion (Isese) Day, this is the first time the Lagos State Government declared a public holiday for adherents to celebrate the day.

The circular reads: “COMMEMORATION OF YEAR 2024 ISESE DAY – DECLARATION OF WORK FREE DAY

“It is hereby notified for general information that this Year’s Isese Day Celebration will hold on Tuesday, 20th August, 2024.

“In emphasising commitment to give necessary support to traditional institutions, as well as enhance the promotion of indigenous tradition by preserving cultural heritage, Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved that Tuesday, 20th August, 2024, be declared a Work-Free Day for Public Servants in the State.

“Consequently, work resumes on Wednesday, 21st August, 2024 at 8:00 a.m.

“Accordingly, all Accounting Officers are enjoined to note the contents of this Circular and give it the deserved Service wide publicity.”

Some people who don't have a celebrated culture or historical heritage will soon come here to attack the governor and the Yoruba people of SW Nigeria.

This is how they celebrate yoruba culture in Cuba:

This is how they celebrate yoruba culture in Cuba:

This is how it's being celebrated in, almost if not all South American countries including Mexico and Puerto Rico in the North.

Brazilian president downing and wife below. Proudly Oduduwa - God bless our Isese adherents.

Yoruba slaves were taken in large numbers to Brazil, especially towards the last 50 years of the final abolition of the practive in 1882 in Brazil.

Those white guys singing may have African ancestory. They may be Quadroons who have a black grandfather, or octoroons who have one black great grandfather.

Santeria is a kind of Christian worship mixed with paganism.

Did you know that the Brazilian president is missing a finger? He lost it in an industrial accident. He was a union leader.

Hausa, Ibo, Fulani, Yoruba, Ashanti, Dahomey, Senegambia, Angola e.t.c. were all taken as slaves, but the Yoruba culture survived. They also led the imale revolution in Brazil. What a colonialists in the Bahamas wrote about the Yorubas.

The colonials in the Bahamas also had something to say about some others 👇

Great ,I'm not religious but I will choose Isese over any foreign imperialistic religion if need be any day any time.

Also ,it's a strategic move to reinforce indigenous positions in the state . A lot of insults from some people that could not proudly point to their home state these days which need to be nipped in bud .

Another change the SW governors need to make is to unify the date that way it will have more impact .
