Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by Gbadugbakun(m): 2:40pm On Aug 19 |
There's a thread on the front page about the GO of MFM saying that MFM has the highest first class graduates in Nigeria. I was at prayer city life yesterday and his exact words were "I stand to be corrected, I believe the MFM has the highest first class graduates in Nigeria". What I don't understand is how this harmless statement aimed at encouraging our youths to be more hard working is hurting some people. This man is giving 250k each to those graduates. Something our president and governors cannot do, yet not a single person commended him rather they're roaming around finding fault with a statement he made. What is wrong with Nigerians? Why do we see negativity in everything, how many churches in Nigeria reward their first class graduates? If you tell your son or daughter that he or she is the most intelligent person on earth and your neighbor hears it and comes to quarrel with you wouldn't you hit 2 by 2 on that neighbour? Dr Olukoya is entitled to his own opinion, he has every right to praise and encourage his students. If you have a problem with that then something is fundamentally wrong with you. 5 Likes 1 Share |

The man himself says that he stands to be corrected. So, why are you angered by the fact that some people challenge his claim? It is good that he supports academic excellence. But challenging his claim that his church has produced the highest number of first-class graduates in the country is not bad. Stop being sentimental here. 4 Likes |

immortalcrown:I expected them to challenge it by posting more first class of other churches. No one did that, instead they were insulting him and calling him a liar. What's wrong with Africans |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by immortalcrown(m): 2:55pm On Aug 19 |
Gbadugbakun:I am not in support of those insulting the man. But those questioning how the man arrived at the figure are not wrong. |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by Gbadugbakun(m): 2:59pm On Aug 19 |
immortalcrown:The man didn't claim. He had over 400 first class graduates from all over the country who were present at prayer city to be celebrated. That's a fact. That's why he made that statement. Besides he said he stands to be corrected, so why are people so angry and finding fault with his statement and ignoring the cash reward of 250k he gave to each of them. Which is meant to encourage other students to work hard? |

immortalcrown:Is English this hard to understand? If you tell your son or daughter he or she is the most intelligent person in Nigeria and maybe your neighbor overheard your statement and challenges you, would you answer them? I don't think you will because your statement was meant to encourage your child to work hard. Dr Olukoya didn't make that statement in a TV studio, he didn't post it on his social media account, he made it inside his church to his members for the sole purpose of encouragement. So why are people angry? |

Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by Gbadugbakun(m): 3:24pm On Aug 19 |
immortalcrown:No that wasn't he words. When someone uses the term "I stand to be corrected" it means you can't attack him for whatever he says. This were his exact words. "I stand to be corrected, but I believe that MFM has the highest first class graduates in Nigeria" Nobody with a good understanding of English language would hold him for that statement. Because he had it very clear that he might be wrong that's why he said he stands to be corrected. So why are people laying emphasis on that statement? Why are people angry. Our leaders lie to our face on a daily basis yet we don't hold them accountable. Look at PH refinery. They've been lying about it since 2020. How many people have actually held NNPC and the government on their words? Why attack a pastor who made it clear that he might not be correct? |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by immortalcrown(m): 3:33pm On Aug 19 |
Gbadugbakun:Why is this statement the headline of the news? Gbadugbakun:People are challenging the pastor's claim the same way people challenge what the leaders (politicians) say. So, what exactly is your point? |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by Gbadugbakun(m): 3:37pm On Aug 19 |
immortalcrown:Because Nairaland mods wanted to drag traffic to their site. Just like how they usually post news that would stir up tribalism. All is in a bid to bring traffic. Did you see it trending on Twitter? It didn't trend because everyone knows that whenever you use that statement it means that you could be wrong. So why attack someone who made it clear that he might be wrong? |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by immortalcrown(m): 3:42pm On Aug 19 |
Gbadugbakun:Nigerians challenge what Nigerian politicians say. Why don't you want Nigerians to challenge what the man said? |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by Gbadugbakun(m): 3:46pm On Aug 19 |
immortalcrown:No Nigerians defend their politicians and attack those who try to challenge them. A simple example is Tinubu and his supporters. About challenging what the man said. He was talking to his members unlike Nigerian politicians who lie to the people. This man made it clear that he could be wrong. So why challenge someone who told you that he might be wrong. What's there to challenge? |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by immortalcrown(m): 3:51pm On Aug 19 |
Gbadugbakun:You are twisting things here. There are Nigerians that support bad politicians. But there are Nigerians that question everything that politicians say or do. So, why are you against the fact that some Nigerians are questioning what the pastor said? |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by Gbadugbakun(m): 3:54pm On Aug 19 |
immortalcrown:You're the one twisting things and blatantly refusing to understand what I'm saying. |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by immortalcrown(m): 3:58pm On Aug 19 |
Gbadugbakun:You are the one twisting things here. I made it clear that I am not in support of those who are condemning the support the man gives for academic excellence. I then ask you why you are against the fact that some people challenge the man's claim. |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by Gbadugbakun(m): 4:04pm On Aug 19 |
immortalcrown:No it's you who is twisting and refusing to understand me. You don't challenge a statement when someone uses the term "I stand to be corrected" because by using that term he has made it clear that he could be wrong. So what exactly are you challenging? |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by immortalcrown(m): 4:11pm On Aug 19 |
Gbadugbakun:"I stand to be corrected" means that the speaker's claim can be challenged. So, why are you against those challenging the man's claim? |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by Gbadugbakun(m): 4:15pm On Aug 19 |
immortalcrown:You mean challenging with insults? If anyone wants to challenge they should provide facts. Dr Olukoya stood with over 400 first class graduates. If anyone has any problem with that they should post their church's first class graduates last year and we'll do the counting. Unfortunately, most Nigerians lack what it takes to argue constructively that's why they usually resort to insults. |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by immortalcrown(m): 4:17pm On Aug 19 |
Gbadugbakun:have I not clearly and repeatedly told you that I don't support those who insult the man? Answer this question, if you are not the one twisting things here. |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by Gbadugbakun(m): 4:20pm On Aug 19 |
immortalcrown:So far, you haven't challenged his statement with any facts. And no one on the thread that made front page has challenged it with facts. The simple question is did any church have up to 400 first class graduates last year, if yes then Dr Olukoya would be corrected. If no then his statement is correct about MFM having the highest first class graduates in Nigeria. |

Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by Fattprince23: 8:26pm On Aug 19 |
immortalcrown:You don't have any point. Do you know what it means to say "I stand to be corrected"? It's just a long form of in my opinion. You can't be questioning my opinion after telling you I stand to be corrected, you bring you own opinion to convince me that I'm wrong what are you even questioning me on my own opinion for when I didn't tell you it's a fact. |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by Fourthpredator: 9:31pm On Aug 19 |
Fattprince23:I stand to be corrected but president Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the best president in all of history. Don't challenge my opinion because I may be a pastor offline. That is how arrogant some christians are behaving. Even Jesus allowed pharisees and sadducees to challenge him,so is your pastor now bigger than Jesus himself. |

Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by Gbadugbakun(m): 1:31am On Aug 20 |
Fourthpredator:You're still not getting the point. If you say Tinubu is the best president in all of history, I can easily come out with facts to correct your statement. I can point you to the dollar rate, fuel price, hunger, insecurity... etc When you're challenging an opinion, you're expected to present facts that say otherwise. That's the whole purpose of the challenge. But in this case, Dr Olukoya hosted over 400 first class graduates. I never saw anyone on that thread who presented facts to show that he was wrong. At least post facts of your church celebrating 500 graduates then your challenge would hold water. They were just calling the man a liar and abusing him. That's very wrong extremely wrong. If you cannot counter his opinion with superior facts, kindly let him be. |
Re: Now I Understand Why Nigeria Cannot Be Great. by Fattprince23: 8:02am On Aug 20 |
Fourthpredator:Did you see where I wrote, you bring your opinion to convince me? If you say President Bola Ahmed is the best in history, I come and tell you he's not the best because Murtala was better than him(which is my own opinion) with reasons for saying that. So in this discussion he said he stand corrected so his open to questioning and admit what he said is not fact, so what are you challenging him for? For saying his own mind. I'm not a fan of pastors, his not my pastor for clarification. |
