I am a software engineer. I have worked for a company for over 5 years.

The company is a startup and I was given a share in the company (7%) with 100k pay. we built this company together.

I was thinking if the company gets funding my life would change but as it is now my life is becoming miserable.

the company is not funded yet. Our CEO has been trying alot. The industry is yet untapped and I was seeing a good future with the company

but life has started choking me. If I see people I started with they are all doing well, even the people I taught.

I missed a lot of good opportunities as well.

I also had oppportunity to do fraud but I did not want to be involved in such.

I am over 35 and have not achieved anything yet. Not yet married.

I am thinking if I leave and they get funded. I will regret it the rest of my life. If I stay I don't know how long it will take to get funded

I am feeling I am a failure. I feel I have wasted my life.

I have really worked hard but nothing to show for it.

This is really getting me depressed. What can I do in this suitation?

There has been an improvement over the years but not as expected. We have been changing strategies every now and then.

They are not hiding anything from me.

My advise for you is

1. Define what you want to learn (Backend, frontend)
2. Define the language you want to learn (nodejs, python, golang, java, c#, javascript, laravel, etc)
3. Get a curriculum for it and start learning
4. There are alot of distraction and noise but don't ever fall for it. Focus on what you want to learn and complete it
5. Create a thread on nairaland and update your feed with your learning progress
6. When you are done apply for jobs like m*d
7. Don't forget your prayers.

I have chosen frontend. What does m*d means

Never be hungry for success bro but I get where you are coming from
The choice is in your hands and if you are feeling like that then I can imagine others at the company do too.

On the flip side, start seeking for new opportunities that will improve your circumstances.
Once you get it, leave. But look at the legal clause attached to the 7% equity. It should be something you can cash out, just in case the company blows tomorrow 🙂

My stack is php/laravel
