If you don’t invest in Lagos now, you’ll regret in 10 years time – Pst Ashimolowo

The Global President of the Kingsway International Christian Centre, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo has said that people who ignore investing in the real estate sector of Lagos now will regret it in 10 years time.

This is just as he advised against buying shares as a form of investment, asserting that real estate is a better option.

Ashimolowo said this while speaking during a recent episode of the KK show.

He recounted days when a plot of land in Lagos went for as low as N500 and N1000, contrasting it with what is obtainable today.

He said, “Anybody who does not invest in Lagos now will regret in 10 years time, because some of us regretted not responding to LAGOS on time, I came to Lagos as a young pastor when a plot of land in Opebi was N500, and AllenAvenue was N1000 for a plot. Allen was a bush. Ikeja areas were bush.
Opebi was a bush. A plot of land in Isolo was N500.

“The same Opebi which I wouldn’t buy for N500 in 1979/80, and now went in 2004 and bought the plot for N10m, and built four flats and a small house at the back, and stayed there for a few years. I now sold the whole place for N120 or N150m in 2018, my own investment there was N55m.”

Ashimolowo also recounted how he lost about N200m buying shares in Nigerian banks when he could have invested the same amount in buying lands.

The clergyman said, “The Nigerian banks, I am here today, am 72, and can say what I like, if you take me to court, you are wasting your money because I intend to talk about investments, and why you should do real estate, and not all these buying shares in banks because I lost about N200m in Nigerian banks. N200m worth of shares and they didn’t sell it N30m; if I had used the money to buy land, I don’t even need to cut the grass. And I am not even talking about wonder banks, I am talking of the ones that are in existence today, and every time their shares go down, their MDs and founders go up, How come?”

The days of investing in Lagos are long gone, by us Igbos anyway

We will still do business in Lagos, business investments. But the days of calling Lagos any other thing than a place of business, they are gone for good

And if we get a separate country, you will see us leave Lagos in droves, with our investments, and transfer it to the East

Using a pastor who once adviced his followers to invest in Ponzi scheme to redeem the plummeting real estate value in Lagos will likely fail. Political volatility, policy inconsistencies and rising water levels mean that a real estate investor in Lagos will cry bitter tears in less than ten years.

Enugu, Awka, Owerri, Asaba or even PH have real estate investment opportunities that are more viable and secure in the long run. Do not invest where the risk of losing your property to demolition increases every election season.

He is very wrong. He has been preaching this gospel for decades yet Lagos is still Lagos. He should encourage investment in agriculture for national prosperity and development. What Nigeria is battling today is hunger due to shortages in land cultivation and harvest not lack of requisite accommodation. First thing first.

Lagos state government created Lekki sea port. You can also create one in your own state. You don't have to wait for FG all the time.

100%. No one can predict what will become of Nigeria in the next 5 or even 10 years.

Lagos needs more capitalists like the ones below, and not just bunch of crayfish and lacasera sellers.

Please tell them to stop fleeing to the SW while you are at it.

Oh we will still be going anywhere there is to do good business in Nigeria, including the SW, while you people insist on 'one Nigeria'. Why wouldn't we want to come to your area to take the money you cannot make?

But when 'one Nigeria' comes to and end, which it will one day, we are taking that money back home permanently

LMAO. Una nor get shame. You can always obey the calls of Nnamdi Kanu, your god, that has always begged his kinsmen scattered all over Nigeria to move back voluntarily to Alaigbo. What do the ibos stand to gain when they invests in places like Ogun state and then Nigeria eventually dissolves.

You don't need to get a country before investing in your region. Always boasting. Only a simple statement by lagospedia and there were crying everywhere. If you move your businesses to east, that will be suicide cos nobody will risk his or her life in a deadly place to transact Business. Other tribes will take advantage. Is it not buying and selling. What is special about trading.

Don't mind them. Onne port is functioning but still they keep talking about Lagos port. I taught by now, they will have been patronizing it.

Instead of buying land in Abia and rivers you want me to invest in foreign land called Lagos and after some miscreants will say it's their region... invest in south East and grow the region.

We have all it takes, close to Equatorial Guinea and Gabon...plus Cameroon. I rather invest in cross River to Edo than going far away Lagos Igbos has already purchased.

Kiss the Truth.

You are advising Igbo to invest in their land where ekpa can wake up at anytime to set everything ablaze. You want ekpa to ruin 10/20 yrs investment that is life saving of some in one day because of futureless Biafra project? When you make your own money through hard work, go to present insecure east to throw it away under guise of Biafra struggle.

Even ordinary wedding ceremony, rich men run away from Igbo land to do it elsewhere because of insecurity. No celebrant wants ekpa to kill invited guests or kidnap chiefs. No rich Igbo man will take you serious on this because they know only money you make now is just to buy data and feed yourself.

All igbos should work together in unity to first put peace in place before talking about being investment destination.

All the more reasons why we should dissolve Nigeria and go our different ways

Since I'm supposed to invest only in my Region, what is the point of 'one Nigeria'?

Better I I have my seperate country, move my investments, and invest in 'one Biafra'

NO, thank you.

Question: What is 500% of nothing?
Answer: Nothing.

I rather have 2% of 5, than have 500% of nothing.

My happiness is that even the most "Lagos headed Igbo" have started to change their delusions.
One of them who owns significant investments in Lagos is today an ardent advocate of moving to the east.
He spends most of his time these days in the east.

After Aba is done under Alex Otti, we are likely to have an opportunity to build real IT and tech hubs in the east.

Nice one. God bless him for him for taking his investment back home. The people of Aba would be better for it which will also discourage outward migration from Abia state. People often migrate for lack of opportunity.

Although you have to do something about Simon Ekpas and IPOB sit-at-home enforcers.
