When our correspondent to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, on Wednesday, all the wards were empty except for a few critically ill patients being managed by the consultants.

It was gathered that the teaching hospital had, since the commencement of the strike, discharged many patients and stopped admitting new ones.

A nurse at the outpatient clinic, who spoke under the condition of anonymity as she was not allowed to speak to the press, said the discharged patients may have to return when the strike is over.

Another, who also asked not to be identified, noted that the hospital, which usually was a beehive of activities, now wears a deserted look since the strike began.

Looking quite concerned, she said, “You can see for yourself how deserted everywhere looks, and it will get worse if the government allows the strike to drag on unnecessarily. The hospital no longer admits or attends to patients except for a few who may have appointments with the medical consultants

Assuming the true cost of PMS was N500 then and you were paying N200 per litre, then Govt was subsidising N300 in every litre

Official Naira rate has tripled so the same PMS true cost is now N500x3 = N1,500. If you are paying N700 now. Then Govt is now subsiding N800 inside

But in his “clarification” to NAN, Ajiya said subsidy has not been paid to any marketer in the last nine years — understandably because NNPC is the sole importer of petrol via contracts with suppliers.

It was called under-recovery since Buhari made nnpc the sole importer of petroluem in 2015/16. Now they are calling it fx shortfall or whatever.
