DHL Charged 1.2 Million Naira To Clear 2 Phones And A Watch by Jefferyzz(m): 4:18am On Aug 21
Last week my mother in-law was sent an iPhone 12, Samsung s23 and Samsung S4 watch from UK, the sender didn't inform me she will be using DHL and I didn't know she will be sending brand new phones. She once used DHL to send few items in the past, so she believed she wouldn't have any problem with them.

She said they charged her close to 200k there to have all 3 items sent.

Item got to Nigeria and I got a link to make a payment of over 1.2m to clear the items. They claim Nigeria custom took over the items after they noticed the original amount was not declared.

The sender declared a total amount of 1,200$.
DHL claimed custom reviewed the amount n inflated it 2500$
The sender after this provided them with screenshot of her purchase from Argos yet this fee wasn't reviewed.

I was advised to go to their stand for airport and negotiate with them which I'll do before the week runs out.

If you've experienced this before or know a way out or you know how I can bring down this amount, kindly drop comment. My number is also available Incase you want to DM. I don't want to go there without knowing how to go about this.

Thanks

There's an e-evaluation and e-invoicing platform that the CBN introduced to the customs and it uses a kind of universal pricing for the goods. Most times, people who br8ng in goods under-invoice to reduce customs rates to pay while those who export over-invoice so that they can attract export incentives. The e-evaluation and e-invoicing was introduced to curb this and was introduced during the Emefiele-led CBN era.
The best thing to do now is to pay or else your goods will not be released to you. If you go and settle the wrong guys you may end up with double jeopardy niyen.

It's always better to have an idea of the costs of these goods ahead before sending them because a bargain sale may not be the same as the price on the e-evaluation and e-invoicing platform.

Don't pay that money. The highest they can do is to return it back to source. Just tell the sender to go to same office and raise dust

The sender requested they send it back. She was told its not with them anymore, d agent said it was handed over to custom. One of their agent even threatened the lady by saying even if she didn't collect the items, she will still pay the fee.

ask them to return the items if possible. 200k alone to send and now 1.2m to recieve.

worse thing is they will never remit those money to govt. they will pocket it and use tecno to calculate the damn charges they want to remit.

In a heartbreaking event in eastern Indonesia, a 54-year-old woman lost her life after being attacked by a crocodile while bathing in a river. The woman, Halima Rahakbauw, had spent her morning gathering clams in the river near her village of Wali on the Maluku islands. Later, as she took a swim, she was suddenly and fatally struck by the crocodile. READ MORE https://votpnews.ng/54-year-old-woman-dies-during-crocodile-attack/

Tell them to return it. If they refuse, the sender has a right to file a claim over there in the DHL UK office and they’ll pay her. Don’t mind that uncouth Nigerian DHL staff threatening her.

The item is in DHL facility and not with customs. Don’t bend to their wills. They do the valuation and customs fees right in their office. Customs do not charge them per item but as bulk for duties.
