Nigerian music superstar, Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy has described the country as “collateral damage” in a candid reflection on the nation’s current state.

Speaking in an interview with Tidal on Friday, the African Giant shared why the country’s cultural diversity has become a bane against its growth.

The Grammy-winning artist also expressed his concern over the socio-political challenges facing Nigeria, emphasising that the nation and its citizens often suffer the consequences of poor governance and external influences.

Burna Boy’s remarks highlight his continued outspokenness on issues affecting Nigeria, as “he urged for more accountability and better leadership to prevent the country from being treated as expendable in global and local affairs.”

His comments have sparked discussions across social media, with many echoing his sentiments about the need for change.

Burna Boy shared his thoughts about how Nigeria as a country came to be during the interview with Tidal.

He noted that Nigeria as a country was never meant to exist and it is “nothing but the result of a bad business enterprise entered into by the British”, nothing “but the collateral damage of a business deal gone south.”

He noted that “the area called Nigeria was first known as the Niger Area before the Royal Niger Company acquired it.

“After it was acquired, the Royal Niger Company decided to amalgamate the North and South as against running them as separate entities, and it was at this point that the country Nigeria was birthed.

The Afro-fusion star noted that “when the amalgamation was going to happen, the Niger Company and the British who sold Nigeria didn’t take into consideration those living in the region.

“The two entities that sold and bought the Niger Area, the people living there were nothing but collateral damage.”

Dissolution of the union or going back to regional governments. That way, if your tribesman misbehave , you can easily remove him from office without been accused of tribalism.

I keep saying it that Nigeria is not a nation and can never be a nation. Nigeria does not possess any of the features of a nation which are common religion, common language, common culture, common historical background, etc.

Nigeria is an artificial entity created by Britain for selfish economic reasons. But Nigerian politicians keep fooling the gullible
people with the fake name 'NATION' just to plunder, steal and distort the truth.

How can people who don't have same political ideology, language, religion, culture, historical background, etc be called a nation?

Mark my words. People who usually show to be the most patriotic citizens of Nigeria are the worse set of tribalists and ethnocentric idiots.

Agreed.
Nigeria is a destiny killing field, and all of us are victims. Dangote, Africa's richest man is crying atm, even the crooked Tinubu wants to do better than he's doing, but he can't no matter what he does.
We are all victims one way or the other.

U celebrities should start talking. People are suffering. Every other company country put together by UK found their way out of the contraption except Nigeria
E.g India split into India/Pakistan/Bangladesh/Nepal. Rhodesia- zimbabwe/botswana/angola; congo- DRC/Congo

Re: Nigeria, A Collateral Damage, Says Burna Boy by TheBillyonaire: 12:19am On Aug 24
Nigeria is not a country, but an open market place. Nigeria ceased to exist as a country since 2014. That is why political elites and buying up everything and sharing the lands to themselves because they know there is no country. Amalgamation Treaty was designed for 100 years. And has therefore expired. So Northern Protectorates is what we call Northern Nigeria or North for short. And Southern Nigeria is called South. So the rotation presidency is basically 2 tribal factions kicking out other tribes they do not like and lording over the masses with guns and bullets.

The masses think they have a country, but cleatly there are organized control over the society except just a bunch of money collectors like Police, Army, EFCC, ICPC, IRS etc all set up to extract money from the human beings living on the landmass. There is no collective plans, no collective vision, no goals, just organized chaos.

If Nigeria Collectives are ready to have a country, then even Politicians and Pastors will build their hiding places, And that will be their self-isolative prison.
