A security guard has been killed and valuable materials stolen during a break-in at the abandoned Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) estate in Bwari in the early hours of Friday.

The incident occurred when thieves gained entry into the unfenced and ungated premises and overpowered the security guard on duty when he tried to stop them.

The stolen materials included windows and other building components.

The FMBN estate in Bwari has been abandoned for several years, and its condition has deteriorated significantly.

The estate was jointly funded by the FMBN and the Federal Housing Authority, with Luxiar Construction Limited as the developer.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of the area. Residents of nearby communities have expressed worry about potential further criminal activity.

The FMBN and Federal Housing Authority are urged to take steps to secure the estate and determine the best course of action for the project’s future.

The estate management and other authorities have been notified, but no arrests have been made.

Why kill the security man. Nowhere is safe in Nigeria again. Robbery and kidnapping are the order of the day.

Hausas are cursed with condemned iron and aluminium. That's what they specifically came to vandalize. They are so obsessed with it that they can kill. If nothing is done by the owners of the estate to safeguard the place, the whole roof and aluminum doors and windows will be gone in days.

Hmmm ... security guard for this dilapidated building ...but I can understand because the guard is programmed in the payroll... and will continue to be paid even if the building collapsed. I'm almost sure the guard would still be alive if he had not try to stop the bandits. If he weren't killed .... would the corporation know the windows and what else were stolen? Security guards should have it programmed in their heads that their life matters more than whatever they are guarding
