Emergency fund in Emilokan government
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣??
Rainy day fund done replaced emergency fund ooo.this
To be honest, there is no one-size-fits-all ideal emergency fund. It really depends on individual circumstances and lifestyle. 3 to 6 months of family income has been proposed by experts.
Personally, my emergency fund ranges from N6M to N8M, and I occasionally borrow from it to cover unexpected expenses. This cover business and family emergencies.

@11, equity proceeds dey purchase real estate very well.

@12, what do you think is an appropriate emergency reserve fund based on income and expenses?

Can that correctly tell when the next bear will happen

It can tell me with a reasonable level of certainty:

- When a bull is over or nearly over

- Change in trend from bull to bear or vise versa

With these, I can now track any individual stock that I am interested in. The likelihood of doing better when investing near market bottom, seems higher. Of course, it is not foolproof

He might not need a chart if he has done his homework, has a good understanding of the fair value of the business, the business is selling at a discount, there is a generous margin of safety and he is planning to hold for 5 years and above based on his understanding of the business.
He might miss good opportunities to accumulate if waiting for the right signals.

By the way Warren Buffett does not use charts

I admire your passion for Buffet style..
But I don't share same sentiments...
Buffet has a large war chest....
invest in a sane environment , enjoy good coy corp governance practices...
With sound regulatory framework and supervision...
Unfortunately, we lack these core values of Buffet portfolio on the NGX...
I agree with U that FA help you understand if a business is selling at a discount or not ...
TA guides your entry and exit point by looking at the price action...
As Agba succinctly place it ...
TA makes you more efficient ....

That is why having a good understanding of business valuation is very important. If a business of N1000 is selling for N300, why shouldn't I buy.

Apart from that strategic buyers buy in tranches, the cash flow for the purchase does come at once.

But if you have zero understanding of valuation you can use the charts

That's if the person still gets money to invest Lol

I said income investors. An income will always have cash flow or can borrow against future cash flow

An income investor should have a minimum of 4 streams of income and a minimum of 30 credit alerts per annum from the income streams

4 months living expenses is recommended for people with predictable income eg salary earners, for people whose income is not predictable eg contractors, suppliers, businessmen, 9 month to 18 months living expenses is recommended

Frequency of the income is also important, high frequency is good for compounding

I stand with this one.The TA thing sometimes makes it look like you are trying to time the market. If you have fundamental sound stocks. I prefer you use the quarterly results as guide to your entry. Like wapco presently. I have a buy for now.I have been looking if it will dip to 35 or less but it has been hovering around 37.And I know if q3 results which is my target comes well .I may not see it at 37 again unless the fundamental changes for bad.So do I wait to buy at 30 as TA pointer and likely miss out if q3 comes out solid. This happened in preseco and total. I will not wait .I will rather be picking in small batches of dip below 37.This is how I operate my own on any stock I see giving me 50% in a targeted time. And my purchase time target is September as per end of q3 in mind

You are the one who is late to the party, not TA. After 2022, TA would have advised you to wait for it at 20, as there was support there from 2021. The other significant point would have been around 30, which is clear in the chart because that was the resistance throughout 2022. In 2023, that resistance was broken, and if you had WAPCO in your sights, you should have entered then.

As of today, support is at about 35 or below. If you can acquire it there, you should be fine. Set your target for 45 and above. But why do people try to dismiss what they don't understand? I respect all strategies, whether FA or TA; they all have their strengths and weaknesses. And, just as we have Buffett, we also have Simons, who made billions using technicals.

I understand your point of business valuation.....
But what valuation wont tell us is when or whether we will have buyers ....
that will pay N1000 for the business you purchase at N300 ....
So you have to wait it out on a long term horizon...1..2... 3.. 4 .5yrs probably 10years.
hoping that there will be buyers to offer N1000/....
I got tired of the hope and the need to average down....
Sincerely average down is a function of how deep your pocket is ....
Thats my turning point to TA .....
Folks should just use what works for them....

Not at all, Naira fixed incomes fluctuares between
20% to 25% of my portfolio and Eurobond is usually 10% of my portfolio.

At any point in time equity is 65% to 70% of my portfolio.

Why should one wait for 10 years? Income generating ability of the business to investors is very important.

My maximum payback is 5 years through dividends and value creation

Thanks...

I totally understand what you mean because during the bears of 2020 in NSE and some other foreign... I had to shift more attention on crypto because it was beginning to be bullish in crypto... I was using the big funds made from crypto to build my portfolio in NSE and other markets...

Crypto that season just like this season was making sudden millionaires in dollars

Making it is good, managing it is better, multiplying and keeping it the best but the toughest.

There must be a reason why Buffet has been on the forbe list for decades. He is the longest member on the list.

Some past names on the list are now bankrupt, some have committed suicide.

His slow and steady strategies need to be stidies by anyone who is interested in multiplying and keeping it

Don't take unnecessary risk. If you are lucky to have made money by taking unnecessary risk, book profit and put the fund in low risk assets like appropriately priced real estate and other income generating assets.

Cash flow is very important, your investments should generae income while waiting for capital appreciation.

Have observed that dividend paying stocks are not punished the same way non dividend paying stocks are punished in a bear market or recession
