The biafran agitators in diaspora known as Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, (BRGIE) has intensified plans for a month-long lockdown of federal government offices in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria over the protracted insecurity in the region and the continuous detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB.

The group’s leadership made this known through its official X handle, stating it is a decision reached at a virtual meeting held by the BRGIE cabinet.

It stated that the expected lockdown would commence from August 28 to September 26, 2024, explaining further that federal offices, excluding privately owned businesses in the five States of the region, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra and Imo will be shut out of operations.

The group in the statement queried the continuous incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by the Nigerian government, and demands his immediate release unconditionally including other Biafrans and demilitarisation of the South-East region.

It stated, “The Biafra government in diaspora has just approved the lockdown of Nigeria institutions in some parts of Biafraland following the continued killings of innocent citizens, invasion and abduction of religious worshippers within its territory.

“We have decided to lockdown all federal institutions exclusively, in this region for 30 days, and demanding total withdrawal of all security forces from the territory.

“We also demand the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and all other Biafrans that are being detained in various locations in the country,” it stated.

The group, however, bemoaned the recent killing of 27 innocent southeasterners in Enugu allegedly tagged criminals by the security forces.
