The way u guys always bash social sciences , arts and humanities course graduates ehn; one would think Nigeria is a country where there are job opportunities for STEM related courses.

The funny thing is the people who form bulk majority of unemployed in this country are actually those who studied STEM courses.

Go to KPMG, EY,PWC,Delloitte, Banks, Insurance companies, HR consulting firms, etc; na engineering graduates, Biochemistry graduates, Geology graduates, etc full there.

How many jobs are available for STEM course graduates in this country? If not that the aforementioned companies absorb them, where do u think those STEM people will be working ?

In the real sense of things sef, STEM is like waste of time in this country because most of the graduates of STEM courses don't work in STEM related jobs.
Exactly
If I had known na social science course I suppose do not applied science

Lolz.grin

HMO has nothing to do with minimum wage . There’s a law (National Health Insurance Act 2022) which makes it compulsory for employers to provide health insurance for their staff.

Pension is also statutory . PENCOM act 2004 mandates ur company to arrange contributory pension scheme for their staff ; it’s only 8% of ur salary that will be deducted as its contribution out of the 70k while ur company will pay 10% from their pocket.

Lagos state government job has leave allowance and 13th month which has nothing to do with the 70k minimum wage.

The fact is that 45k is in contravention of the minimum wage bill Tinubu just signed.

HMO has everything to do with your gross salary.

Pension has everything to do with your gross salary.

70k is the least you can pay = Gross salary.

You cannot be holding on to NET, when they specifically wrote the why it would be so

Which one is dexterous? undecided

Is it not that they will first train them in those jobs ni? If u are an engineering graduate who gets employed in EY or First bank, u will have to undergo training like everyone else. All those talk about dexterous is just to massage ur STEM ego. The same training they will give a Yoruba education graduate is what they will give a mech engineering graduate who has been drafted into their graduate trainee program.

The crux of the matter is , most STEM degrees are useless in Nigeria because there are no much STEM jobs waiting for them in the labor market. so, I don't the need for continuous bashing of social sciences job. Maybe if u were talking about labour market in the UK, US and the west in general sha it will make sense.

In the bank or in EY will you not do calculations?

You can't be taking risk of telling a Masscom graduate to put 17% on something and they will be looking at you like ode. You think it's a joke but most non stem people cannot do basic everyday calculations required in those jobs.

STEM course is a test of natural intelligence. It is proof that you can handle some concepts and calculations. Go and check all JAMB highest scores, they all end up in STEM. The only social science that intelligent students go on to do is Law or economics. So once you see STEM, LAW or Economics on their degree, you know a process of natural selection has already taken place to weed out the dumb ones from the smart ones and you can go ahead and interview the smart ones instead of wasting time..

You think its a joke but employers do discriminate on this basis and I take this very serious in my personal life. I have been fighting my niece for the last year. She is a prodigy but refusing to do Maths A Level. She is talking of Philosophy, Sociology A Levels, Biology and bla blah blah. I said Biology is good for Medicine but at your level of genius, you must include Maths to really rubber stamp your genius so employers can see it. Any Tom, Dick or Harry could score well in Philosophy by writing long essay, but science is where genius is proven.

This is her GCSE result below. 7 is equivalent to A, 8 is a A* and 9 is A**.

How will someone with this kind of result reduce themself to the level of an average Jane by taking sme sme courses that any Chinyere can do. You must show Maths A Level, and even if she goes on to do Medicine or Science in Uni, the Maths A Level will give her the foundation to be great in any STEM course she does.

Only lunch will account for 15k there.

There's HMO
Pension
Leave allowance
13th month.

Point me to any minimum wage jobs that had/have these.
I see companies that add 13th month and leave allowance to deductibles to form tax as thieves
In the end na in and out they will do
Normally the only reason you should be removing tax from leave or 13th month is if you are paying the full salary
But if you are paying only basic or 5-10% of the annual pay them no suppose tax am
It's cheating

Okay I hear u. grin

I just explained to u that only 8% of ur gross pay can be deducted as pension statutorily which is N5,600 out of N70,000. after that ur tax will be deducted. There no how ur tax will be as much as N20k.

Ur Health insurance is not tied to ur salary be it gross or not. It is a stand alone.

I don't even know what receiving a salary looks like.

We all know the dumb ones drop out into arts early, right from SS1 and the smart ones go science route. That's the class at which we start to choose specialty in my day and I've never seen someone in Class A pick Arts. It's usually from Class B to D they pick arts. After nature has already made you find your level since SS1, you can't come and be forming hothead later.

I suspect the job u are referring to is a contract job. That’s what those bastarrds do, they make it seem like HMO is part of ur salary ; they are cheating u.

Health insurance has been legislated in 2022. Ur employer must provide health insurance for u, it is statutory and not key of ur salary in any way.

All the jobs I’ve done none of it has made HMO part of my salary .

They are ripper, HMO is suppose to be part of company incentive to their employees
I know companies that increase their employer pension from 10% to 12% if you stay for some numbers of years that's another avenue to make staff stay

A Yoruba education graduate who gets employed at EY or KPMG will take ICAN the same way an accounting graduate or Engineering graduate will and they will all pass once they are sound.

U can argue all u want but there are people who studied mass comm and other art related courses working in the big 4. In fact just go to linkedin right now and type “ Mass communication kpmg” ; u will see profile of people who studied mass comm and currently working in KPMG pop up.

Mass Com is not a passion, it's a last resort

You can accept Law, Economics, Business or
Languages as proof of intelligence from arts course, maybe even Philosophy, that's it

Languages is proof of reasoning and following rules to construct a language (similar to coding), so is Law. Economics and Business include Maths and Commercial acumen. The rest na rubbish

ICAN is proof enough of your ability to handle manipulating numbers. I actually respect degree in Languages cos it involves learning rules and coding it into a way of speaking, as well as retentive memory. Language graduates often do well in commercial setting.

You said 2022 naa

I said a law was passed in 2022 making it mandatory for all employers to provide health insurance for their employees.

Prior to that , most decent companies provide HMO for their employees and they don’t make the HMO part of their gross annual package. I wish I can share documents here but for private reasons I can’t.

Typically ur Gross annual salary will comprise of various components like Basic, Transport , Lunch , Education, furniture , etc. After the gross is summed up, they will now go and list “Other Benefits” which will include HMO, 13th month, Provisions/Dry Ration etc.

The only reason they decided to legislate the health insurance thingy is cos of what unscrupulous employers do making it seem like they are doing their employees favor with HMO

Fair enough. Last time i got that kind amount was NYSC around 2005 (NYSC plus State Gov plus Local Govt).

Nigerians are miracle workers. Ibime is wrong. The average Nigerian is a mathematical genius the way they are able to organize their families on such meagre salaries.
