The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to shut down the country if the police detain its President, Joe Ajaero.

The organised labour gave the warning on Thursday at the Labour House in Abuja where various affiliate union leaders gathered early morning in solidarity with Ajaero.

The police had invited Ajaero over alleged terrorism financing, subversion and cybercrime after the #EndBadGovernance protests held between August 1 and 10, 2024.

Ajaero, in company with his lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), later proceeded to the office of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) at the disbanded SARS facility located at Guzape.

Also with Ajaero is Deji Adeyanju, a human rights activist and lawyer and other top officials of the labour union.

Some of the unions spotted on the ground to accompany the NLC President include Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria JUSUN, National Union of Telecommunication Employees NUPTE, and the Radio and Television and Act Workers Union (RATTAWU).

General Secretary of the NLC, Emmanuel Ugboaja while addressing the members accused the Federal Government of chasing shadows, mockingly saying Ajaero was never on the run.

They drove out of the NLC Headquarters at about 10:00 am.

The government needs to find a legal way to clip the wings of this NLC.

The police invited the man. No big deal. If you or you organisation has committed a crime under the law, the police can prosecute you - again, no big deal.

The NLC thinking they're bigger than the law just shows how weak the present government is.

Under Mr Buhari, ASUU went on strike for 8 months. The man did not bat an eyelid and refused to pay their salary during the 8 months. Nobody begged ASUU before they returned to work and even after going back to work, Mr Buhari still refused to pay them.

The current President generously paid 4 months out of the 8 months despite the fact that under the 'no work, no pay' rule applied by Mr Buhari, they were not entitled to the 8 months salary.

The current government has also settled the minimum wage with NLC.

Yet, every little thing, the NLC threatens to shut the country down.

Could they try this under Mr Buhari. Absolutely not.

You will make matters worse for yourselves. You folks are not concerned with good governance except to pursue wage increase that ultimately means nothing in the face of inflation.

Go ahead and shut it down.

When you shut it down, you, your family and your stupid supporters will enjoy the shutdown. "When the rain falls, it won't fall on one man's house alone."

Your threats means nothing. If Ajero violates Nigerian law, he will be arrested and he will have his day in the court of law. He is not above the law of the country because he is NLC president or because he is an Obidient.

When you talk about Nigerians in this context, you must say the 8.8 million or do that voted for BAT/APC. There were close to 20 million who did not vote for him.
