I applied after I got my PGWP.
Kurukuru:
When did you apply for SOWP for your spouse? Did you get PGWP after submitting the SOWP?

Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Kenn55: 5:01pm On Aug 20
If a spouse is already in Canada studying and the husband wants to join with an SOWP, will the husband require a POF in his application? If yes, how much is required? Who is supposed to show the POF, the spouse already in Canada or the husband?

I'm not finding this specific info online.
Thanks
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Jeboy(m): 3:13am On Aug 22
Did you include a Full time job? PGWP application now must come with full time offers to qualify for SOWP unlike before that it is automatic without need for job proof by the PGWP holder.

Timegi99:
I have applied for my spouse in June but not gotten a response. I am on PGWP.
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Jeboy(m): 3:18am On Aug 22
It is required oh, this was the reason I was refused SOWP.

The longer the time frame for the SOWP the more funds will be required.

I was refused according to the gcms note because my balance on the account was about 10k CAD and the VO noted I used same account for sponsorship of my spouse so on that note he doesn't think my balance was good enough for both of us. That's how I lost sowp privilege as she is a college student. I have to revert to TRV now.

First try use another bank account balance if possible and if not make sure it's not less than 20k CAD If you ll be staying for a year or more periid.

You can only be hopeful, passing does not guaranty approval but it is one hurdle you have crossed.

Hello guys! Just thought to post to encourage everyone waiting.

ITS PPR FOR ME!!!!!

My husband originally applied May 10th for his study permit trv and got his ppr on the 7th of June.

Without paying school fees, we proceeded to do upfront medicals and submitted my sowp application June 22nd. Timeline is as follows:

Upfront medicals
SOWP Application: June 22nd
Biometrics: June 24th
Medicals passed: August 14th
Eligibility and PPR: August 22nd.

To the glory of God. God did it for my husband and I.

Let's keep trusting God and our testimonies will be assured.

Yeah, Hope is always the string we tie.

Many people have arrived and discovered that the so-called availability of jobs is nothing but a fairy tale. Many ex-bankers are asking if they can be live-in nannies. All PSW colleges are full now. Many ladies now send unsolicited resumes with pictures attached. E rough now for Cana no be small.

Don't be discouraged. By their statements we shall know them. People like them are the one spoiling the ground for other people when they enter Canada. They see any idea or information contrary to their desperate expectation as hostility.

Newfoundland was the easiest province to get PR. Before, just got any job, you would be nominated for Provincial Nominee. Some desperate students and their spouses came, just because they wanted to beat the system, they abused the integrity of the immigration system. The way Canada immigration is structured is that you transit from work permit to PR. Thats why students are given Postgraduate Work Permit after graduation. What the students did was that they did not have the money they claimed they had. They came to Canada empty handed despite presenting a bogus bank statement to the IRCC, when they arrived Canada, they paid part of the tuition fees, They hurriedly broought their spouses in to work in order to pay the school fees. Once the spouse worked 6 months on the work permit, they hurriedly apply for PR. Since the Newfoundland immigration system was the fastest, they got PR faster. They went back to the school that they are now permabent residents, and such they should convert their tuition to domestic fees including the ones they were owing. Some even applied for PR when still schooling because Canada allowed them to work full time.

We warned them but they called us names. Now, Newfoundland has come up with stricter requirements for their PR

Thank you @Kurukuru. Does it mean then that as a result of the strict immigration rules provinces no longer allow spouses on SOWP to apply for PR after working for 6 months while their partner is still in school even if the school fees have been paid in full.

Good day everyone , I am currently running an MBA in Canada and I want to apply for SOWP for my hubby and visas for my 3 kids , so two of my kids 7 years and 3 years are American citizens, should I still apply for study and visit for both of them. The other one is 5 years to turn 6 years in March( what type of visa should I apply for the Nigerian citizen who hasn’t turned 6 yet?). Will appreciate your feedback thank you

No need to apply for the American citizens, they enter Canada with their US passports, but you need to apply for visitor records for them. The Nigerian citizen will need study permit to enter.

Thank you so much. So the part where they ask hubby how many family members he should only say one since the others will use their passport and get the visitor record at the POE?

For those who still hold the belief that everything we are saying is a rumour, please read this:

https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/immigration-minister-says-upcoming-changes-to-permanent-resident-levels-not-cosmetic-but-significant-1.7015113

This is the interview the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration granted the CTV News. Canada is planning to reduce the immigration level plans for the permanent residents. The present immigration level initially was to admit up to 1.6 million PRs in the next three years. Now they want to reduce the number to like about 850,000. The big issue now is that presently, Canada has more than 2 million temporary residents including students and their family members. The implication of this is that not all the students currently studying and their family members will get PR. They are trying to enforce Section 216(b) and 200(b) of the IRPR. Those are the sections we all agreed to before the IRCC granted the permits.

If the above is underway, please tell me the motivation for them to bring in more temporary residents.

Common sense!

It’s worth noting that the number of Nigerians moving to Canada isn’t the highest compared to other groups. For instance, Indian migrants, who make up a significant portion of newcomers, aren’t discouraged from coming by their own community. We should emphasize the importance of planning thoroughly before making the move, as the situation at home offers little improvement.

Currently, Nigeria faces severe challenges such as a month-long fuel shortage, high inflation, and a crumbling currency. For context, while N10 million was equivalent to CAD 30,000 last June, you now need N35 million to get the same amount. The economic divide is widening, leaving a stark gap between the rich and the poor with no visible middle class. Given these conditions, suggesting that people stay and endure these hardships seems unreasonable.

The only compelling reason for people to reconsider moving to Canada would be if those who are already there begin returning permanently. Until then, anyone who has the means to move should plan carefully and proceed if it aligns with their goals and circumstances.

Anyone with 35million in their account at this moment have no reason to come to canada now with the whole situation, coming to canada to waste such funds and at the end not getting a permanent residence doesn’t worth it. The cost of living is high are difficult to get common menial jobs in canada. It’s better to go to Europe.

Hello guys, I need your advice on this matter. I am presently in Canada studying and I want my family to join me here. I have an individual (not a relative) who wants to sponsor my family to Canada and his statement of account meets or is more than sufficient for the proof of funds requirements. He has also confirmed that the letter he gives together with statement of account can be notarized by me. Also, I have little savings which I can add to support the application for my family.

Kindly advise me on the best way to go about the proof of funds thing based on the above narration.
