Oando is already heavily indebted. For the purchase of Agip, they only placed about 10% or less in equity; the rest is debt. Even if they get the refineries for free, they will still have to spend millions of dollars they currently don't have. It's better not to commit to too many things. They should pay off the humongous debts first before pursuing other money sinks.

In my opinion, it will not be a good idea. There is only so much that family ties can do before others start protesting.

What if they use this high share price rally to raise funds through a preferential offer to acquire and revamp the refinery, do you think that they won't still be able to achieve the purported objectives?

A very good perspective.
Again, it could be suicidal for Oando to try and buy anything like government asset or property, considering all the bad press, controversies, rumours and misgivings about the importation of fuel from Malta.
The upstream sector and the assets under Oando are lucrative enough for the company to do well and make good returns.
Unlike the upstream sector where Oando currently operates, the refining and retail distribution sectors are labour- intensive, and I don't think it would serve Oando's interest. They just divested from the downstream, so going back to buy a refinery in the same midstream/downstream sector will be a clear case of lack of direction for the directors.

They could do that, but they haven't done it yet. And why didn't they do that for the Agip acquisition? Will Mr. Tanimu Yakubu and the two other entities that own over 73% of Oando agree to that?
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Zagee: 1:58pm On Aug 30
Fun fact:
Oando has only experienced two months of "significant" profit taking(100m+ in volume) this year at circa 16 and circa 9.

The last 3 months witnessed strong bulls in excess of 300m+ in volume and 500m+ only in August.

At the time of the Agip acquisition, they didnt have the luxury of high share price and demand like this. They would have had to release higher number of units of the shares to raise the funds; it is technically cheaper then to get a loan from a bank than today that the share price is moving closer to #100 and adding that asset to the company's holding will make it more formidable.

I hope that they don't buy any of the refineries; I feel Tony Elumelu Heirs Oil will do better than them in the refineries, but if they choose to acquire it, funding won't be as much of a problem to them as you imagined.

Have you appraised the level of damage and rehabilitation needed, or are you only seeing the share price of Oando? Oando's outstanding shares are 12,431,412,481. At ₦70 per share, it's worth ₦870,198,873,670, which is just $580,132,582 (rate $1,500). How much did Dangote use to build a new refinery? And what percentage of that do you think will be needed to rehabilitate these ones that have been left fallow for more than 30 years?

How is this Oando's business or interest?
Oando now operates in the upstream (exploration and production).
It does not CURRENTLY operate in the midstream (refining) nor downstream (retail distribution).

Every bit of sales made today for Oando was quickly mopped up. The torrent of sales and profit taking couldn't shake Oando price surge.

Oando is a monster stock. Very impressive counter today!

$1 is sure.
