Taiwo Oyedele @taiwoyedele

The same interview, very different reportage and choices of headlines. Bad news sells faster, so some journalists will spin any news just to sell. Some of the quotes attributed to me in some of the reports are not my words.

My committee's proposal for VAT is to reduce the rate to zero per cent (0%) for food, health, education, and exemption for rent, transportation, and small businesses. Our data shows that these are the areas where the average person spend almost all their income, meaning their VAT burden will reduce. The upward rate adjustment is on other items to partly offset the reduction in rate and exemption for basic consumptions ensuring that the masses are protected.

Still saying the same thing. Tinubu is here to loot like never seen before. If you think Tinubu is after the good of Nigeria, Then you are deluded. No opposition in Nigeria.

You will have days where you feel better, and you will have days where you want to die. Both are okay. There is no magical cure. You just need to close your eyes, and trust that the waves will pass, and soon you'll be able to breathe again.

You guys lie too much so whatever lies the media tells against the evil government Nigerians will run with it.

However I still do not believe his comments were twisted by the media because these guys are selected liars

Government is directly the one making some food item expensive

Rice of bag is selling for around 50k around imeko and border,

Government should remove tax on food and allowed a massive control food importation

Since APC came to power , SPEECH RENOVATION became a major thing .

Government officials will make a statement/speech and they will have to release another statement/speech to clarify what they mean in the original one .

Eventually , when things play out in the nearest future , you will discover the official was never misquoted ; he meant what he said originally and those that reported it the way they did initially actually weren’t wrong .

We’ve seen it happen over and over again.

Tinubu is here to bankrupt the country

The man is a certified failure

Anything he touches dies

Expect Naira to be 2k to a dollar before December

Buhari left it at 700 as bad as he was

I have warned that NNPC shouldn't be allowed to come near Dangote Refinery.

The fraud and corruption in NNPC stinks.

I don't know if I am missing something, he said they are proposing to reduce VAT on some items(food, transport, rent ) to zero and increasing VAT on everyother thing to 10%. If the above was what he said, how is any of the headline wrong?

This government has perfected the act of divide and rule.

This is the same thing they did with electricity tariffs. Some section will pay higher first then gradually increase every sectors. Same with petrol.

Nigerians are too docile!!

It's wrong headline because there are reduction more on items that affect the Masses, while the increment is to affect luxury items mainly. In other words, they are getting more from the rich to take care of the poor. That makes sense to me.

since May 29 last year, everytime I hold 50k, fuel collects 35k inside. And this has been consistent to this day. You all are approaching this matter from the wrong place.. I thought this committee people are supposed to be smart. Fixing the fx is the only thing that would bring relief to Nigerians and Tinubu himself.

The other headline made a false blanket statement. As he has explained, under the proposed regime, the average Nigerian will pay no VAT at all, as this is now reserved for luxury items. There, I have used my brain on your behalf since yours is a mere anatomical fixture. You're welcome.
