It’s not uncommon to hear non-supporters ask “what would Obi have done differently?” “every presidential candidate promised to remove subsidy.”

But the main question has always been how.

Below is a documented steps of how Obi intended to go about subsidy removal which wouldn’t have thrown the country into the kind of chaos and crisis we are into right now.

Now, can you compare this to the disaster we currently have?

He should have taken that plan to the debate and convince others to buy into it instead of keeping it secret.

Tinubu never mentioned his .

No singular development strategy in any sector was mentioned, other than "widen the tax gap". and missing out on interviews.

Removing subsidy 100% became a problem as we have now found out. Painfully is that fact that subsidy removal was a simply pronouncement that we have all found incorrect.

Gradual phasing out as stated by Obi would have been better for all.

It was clear that Obi’s steps would have helped the country:

- subsidy removal in phases
- tackle insecurity
- return farmers to their farms to avoid food crisis as presently experienced
- fix the refineries
- end of petroleum products scarcity

BAT took the harder route putting the cart before the horse. He said that he was possessed by a spirit and here we are.

- farmlands dominated by terrorists
- farmers cannot return to their farms
- Fulani terrorists threatening Hausa farmers not to return to their farms.
- food crisis
- dollar exchange out of control
- refineries a long way to restart, etc.

What is reduce subsidy by 50%? How do you reduce subsidy by half in an economy like Nigeria that suffers from inflation. Most importantly, the price of petrol is set internationally. The price is never stable. Just look at the price of crude oil. It could sell for $50/barrel today, and $70/barrel in a years time. How then can you reduce 50% of the subsidy.

Rather, the right thing is to completely remove the subsidy by deregulating its price as done with AGO and dual purpose kerosene.

Tinubu wants to deregulate the price but he is facing backlash. He is trying to reduce the subsidy in increments, something that Obi would have to do.

It is best it deregulates the price once and for all.

what has reducing the cost of subsidy by 50% got to do with inflation?

who set the price of petrol internationally?

pls what do you understand by subsidy?

which backlash is tinubu facing?

who fixed the price of petrol at N897?

is fixing the price of petrol at N897 the same thing as deregulation?

how NNPC being the sole buyer of dangote petrol the same things as deregulation?

what is the percentage of subsidy that the government is paying on every litre of fuel?

how much from that percentage has the government reduced?

what percentage of subsidy is left on every litre of fuel?

how many economists endorsed tinubus plans?

what are tinubus plans and what is the impact of his plans?

You see, any candidate that support the removal of subsidy is a candidate against the people. The only way you and I can have our own share of the dividend of democracy is through SUBSIDY! Even in advance countries, the government pays subsidy and find ways to block loopholes that saboteurs might take advantage of to cheat the system. Instead of removing subsidy, look for a way to block the loopholes...you can not stop subsidy on PMS and start subsidizing rice and other commodities
This approach is not a progressive one,PMS is directly and indirectly linked to price stability in Nigeria because of the NAIRA that’s because our major export is the Crude oil and if we’re not using the money gotten from our free crude oil wisely Nigeria will remain a promising country till thy kingdom come we’re over 100years as Nigeria but our progress and steps seem like the one of a 20years country.
The issue here is we fail to differentiate between our needs and wants
When you prioritize your needs then you will see how effortless it will be to achieve and attain the wants.
The government should sit and discuss the needs and wants
Once the needs are met
You’re half way there
America and other countries prioritize needs
And what are the needs here in Nigeria
Food,Shelter,steady electricity and health care
Do we have access to all this listed above? we’ve been constantly living without a government ever since the time immemorial
So any candidate talking about removing subsidy is also a disaster loading and about to explode
Even the present government of the day has started paying subsidy in form of shortfall.... that is to tell you how important it is to subsidize. It helps both the government and the citizens
The only problem this present government has been facing since inception is the SUBSIDY problem, it removal and the effect on the people.

Throwback:
Is September 2022 more recent than January 2023 when it was just 1month to the election he lost to Tinubu, and he made the below vow to remove subsidy immediately?

The day Nigerians decide that they cannot live without fuel subsidy, Peter Obi who believes in subsidy removal on the 1st day in office would not be their choice, so stop trying to force it.

No consumer would deliberately purchase an expired product that Peter Obi represents.

Unlike Peter Obi, Omoyele Sowore vowed not to remove subsidy, but only about 14,000 Nigerians voted for him, the least of which came from the SouthEast who preferred to vote their tribal brother at almost 100%, so no votes left for any other candidate to score in the SouthEast.

22million Nigerians voted for Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi who all vowed to remove subsidy, instead of Sowore.

Elections do have consequences.

Dude stop trying to be half clever.
