It also pays over N3m as minimum wage.

Let's have a conversation. Do you think the Nigerian minimum wage reflects market realities compared to the US?

As long as we're ready to pay N3m as minimum wage and have food stamps, energy and agric subsidies with accountable politicians pls give us the same road as US!!

And it is an industrial nation that exports manufactured goods and services

Your Nigeria does not do that.

Let tinubu develop an industrial economy that exports, then we can talk.

Till then, keep on crying and trying to expose me, but subsidy is not sustainable.

Good morning, dear Amelia.

I'm sure most nairalanders will agree it is you who is obsessed with subsidy that you blame the inability of the rain to fall on subsidy.

CORRUPTION is the reason we have so many out-of- school kids despite several back to school programs

Your president just signed NNPC-Retail over to his nephew but that's none of your concern. His son's company just got a sweet N15trillion road without any due process but that's not a problem.
Senators are getting 21m to wipe their corrupt noses while judges just got 300% bogus increase but that does not move you as an issue.
It is to be singing subsidy like a bush baby.
That is how on a thread detailing the failure of the ministry of sports, you blatantly lied that Germany was spending €22bn on sports when their budget is not up to half of a billion euros.
Why do you lie to defend corrupt and incompetent politicians?

And you are obseesed with being a big woman, dear Amelia.

A big woman on the internet, where everyone acknowledges that you have hair as long as Rapunzel's.

Good morning.

Well, even though I lose here, it still does not change the fact that subsidy in Nigeria is not sustainable.

It costs N720 per liter to refine a liter of pms NOW...Not under buhari.

Under Buhari it was probably above N250-500. If not more atimes.
so who do we blame for this?

Well, it is true that when petrol is sold for a profit, nothing like scarcity and subsidy scams and smuggling exists.

Such things exist in countries that do subsidy.
you still open mouth waa again. So far fuel price is cheaper in Nigeria to Niger, Ghana, Cameroun etc, you can't stop smuggling by mere removing subsidy. Smuggling exists not not because of subsidy but due to our porous border, failed security architecture and corruption of those manned to safeguard the border. You can open ur mouth waa again

I believe that APC should have been voted out this last election (and in fact, APC would have lost the election if not for the division in the opposition)...but if your preferred candidate won, the same thing would have played out.

The problem is years of subsidising fuel have contributed to a massive debt problem for Nigeria. Keeping fuel below its production cost for years has meant years of deficit budgets and more deficit budgets.....meaning as at August 2022, we were spending 90% of our revenue on debt servicing.

A graded removal of fuel subsidy as some were proposing would have still left us in more debt (and tinubu is doing the same thing).

At the end, we should have removed subsidy in 2012. Even earlier.

Ladies and gentlemen, let's give a warm welcome to the god of this world....who made the above comment.

I am indeed so blessed and honored that the god of this world has quoted me again using his alternate monicker. I am very happy.

I heard you guys are bots, how true is that?

Punder on this: Ghana had a great reform and growth in recent years and they achieved this without plunging its citizens to harsh conditions and poverty. Today their economy if far better than ours atleast the much i know their currency had overtake ours.

Before you argue about population difference, please still consider that the achieved this without being an oil-rich country like Nigeria.

Good governance is not far fetched when given to a visionary and selfless person.

This is so basic that even a dumb person can see how wicked and evil APC leadership had been

was fuel sold at a lost before?

You really do not understand what this subsidy is and how nations should be governed.

Govt exists primarily to do for the people what the people cannot do for themselves. Otherwise, there's no need surrendering my individual anarchy to the state. This is simply social contract.

Every society, irrespective of how rich or poor they are must subsidize one particular commodity that will make life meaningful for the populace. This can be food, health care, transportation or several facets of life. Even societies like western economies that claim to imbibe the tenets if capitalism still subsidize one thing or the other.

What you produce locally will be cheaper, and what you import might be more exorbitant, hence the need for subsidy.

Nigeria's subsidy is an act of wickedness from the part of our leaders. How on earth do we explain that Nigeria an oil producing state doesn't have a functional refinery? The subsidy you see is the cost of refining this crude in another country and bringing down to Nigeria. So whr is the subsidy coming from again now dat we can produce locally Tru dangote?

It always has been, that's why NNPC is owing sellers lots of money now.

Govt exists primarily to do for the people what the people cannot do for themselves. Otherwise, there's no need surrendering my individual anarchy to the state. This is simply social contract.

So, by extension, government should set prices for your business....and you lose money, so that they can help the poor.

O ma se o.

Every society, irrespective of how rich or poor they are must subsidize one particular commodity that will make life meaningful for the populace. This can be food, health care, transportation or several facets of life. Even societies like western economies that claim to imbibe the tenets if capitalism still subsidize one thing or the other.

We tried subsidisng food, and it led to long queues, and scarcity. Back under Buhari army
We subsidsie health, and that's why we have shitty hospitals, because they cannot earn enough to run very well. Also, why many people run abroad for care
We subsidise education, that is why our unis looks backward and our hostels are shitholes.
And subsides are paid for out of taxes....which in Nigeria are very low .

What you produce locally will be cheaper, and what you import might be more exorbitant, hence the need for subsidy.

Problem is, that mentaily is why NNPC Is owing 6 billion dollars now, and why we have poor investment in domestic refining, apart from Dangote.

Nigeria's subsidy is an act of wickedness from the part of our leaders. How on earth do we explain that Nigeria an oil producing state doesn't have a functional refinery

Because when we had refineries, the government sold fuel, diesel, and kero at a loss from them, and skipped TAM to keep subsidy costs low. And massively subsidised their transport.

Result...refineries could not make a profit to run themselves , and they broke down

Plus our revenue from oil cannot pay for subsides...unless we were producing at least ten times what we produce now, and oil remained above 130 per barrel.

? The subsidy you see is the cost of refining this crude in another country and bringing down to Nigeria. So whr is the subsidy coming from again now dat we can produce locally Tru dangote?

Simple...the other parts of your budget....which brings about a deficit, which is filled in by loans.

We have been doing that for decades, which is why we have problems with debt, among other things.

Try not to reason with that person, he is deranged.

Stay humble my friend.
For you won't be here one day.
And although you think you might have left a legacy,
In due time it too will fade with you.
You want to be remembered as someone who
Was kind.
Loving.
Respectful.
Helpful.
Friendly.
And above all humble.
So take the compliments nicely.
Try to always be kind.
And try to be forgiving.
Although I know it can sometimes be hard.
Help others.
Stand up for one another.
Because those are the true legacies that impact lives.
Not just some material thing that will fade faster than you think.
