What Proof Did Jesus Have Saying John The Baptist Is Elijah? by MaxInDHouse(m): 12:58pm On Sep 06
@ Matthew 11:11-14 we read:

Truly I say to you, among those born of women, there has not been raised up anyone greater than John the Baptist, but a lesser person in the Kingdom of the heavens is greater than he is. From the days of John the Baptist until now, the Kingdom of the heavens is the goal toward which men press, and those pressing forward are seizing it. For all, the Prophets and the Law, prophesied until John; and if you are willing to accept it, he (John the baptist) is ‘E·liʹjah who is to come.

And @ Matthew 17:10-13 we read:

However, the disciples put the question to him: “Why, then, do the scribes say that E·liʹjah must come first?” In reply he said: “E·liʹjah is indeed coming and will restore all things. However, I say to you that E·liʹjah has already come, and they did not recognize him but did whatever they wanted with him. In this way also, the Son of man is going to suffer at their hands.” Then the disciples perceived that he spoke to them about John the Baptist

From the two highlighted scriptures we found out that Jesus is implying that John the baptist is the long awaited Elijah. Malachi 4:5

First of all the Jews knew very well that Elijah was not a Jew rather he was a Samaritan and secondly he was taken up to heaven by chariots of fire. So if Elijah should return he could have either been born in Samaria or descended from heaven just as he was taken but instead he was born among the Jews.

So if we want to explain using the scriptures to help a modern day Judaist what evidence does Jesus of Nazareth and his disciples have in the Old Testament to ascertain that John the baptist was truly Elijah?

Jesus' disciples often ask him questions when they are not fully convinced of what he said but when they are convinced they continue to savor they information as they digest it.
What convinced you that Jesus was right when he said John the baptist is Elijah to come?

✝ Malachi 4:5

"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: "

KJV Bible

Do you now see that Jesus Christ is the Lord in this scripture. He sent Elijah aka John the Baptist before His coming. Malachi 4:5 said that Yahweh will send Elijah.

Of course Jesus is Lord but he is not the LORD whom he came to REPRESENT! Psalms 110:1

However you didn't answer the question asked! smiley

This Lord is said to be coming to His temple. He is the owner of the temple. If this Lord is not Yahweh or Jehovah then Jehovah has a rival. But it is Jehovah as you people call him. Jehovah Lord God is One, but yet Three.

Except you will deny that this temple is not the temple that Solomon built for Yahweh.

Where did you find this in the scriptures?

Jesus and Moses confirmed that Jehovah is ONE Jehovah! Deuteronomy 6:4; Mark 12:29

Nice post.
But I have a few questions.
Matthew 17:11
Jesus Christ said John the Baptist would restore all things. Can you list the things that John restored.
Secondly, John will turn the heart of the father's to the children and the heart of the children to their fathers? How did he do it. Who are the father's and who are their children.

I will only attend to people whose heart is not twisted like claiming a first century Jewish man already had those who have been PRACTICING what he has not even taught when he has not even been born.

So thanks for the interest but i am for people who are willing to admit their errors not those sticking to it despite seeing their blunders. smiley

Ok we are going back in circles. I already explained to you that you can learn something without learning what it is called.
I can go to a village and teach the kids the butterfly stroke in swimming but just because they don't know it's called butterfly stroke doesn't mean they don't know how to do it.
I am not the one getting irritated. You have asked this question 10 time. Please go straight to your point.

If they had been TAUGHT they have qualified to be called in any competition that has to do with that task but those who have not been taught can never ever be qualified.

Good so even if they can't define butterfly stroke when asked as long as they can do it, they are good to go right?

The name "Jesus" was never mentioned in the Old Testament and that's the only scripture to be referenced in the first century to back anything someone say.

Can you adequately use the old testament to prove that Jesus was right with that statement at Matthew 11:13-15?
