Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State says bandits cannot operate freely without the connivance of some persons in the society.

Speaking at a town hall meeting which held in Daura at the weekend, Radda said his government is ready to support people to assist security agents in protecting communities against attacks by bandits, kidnappers and other criminals.

The programme had as its theme, ‘Public Engagement: 2025 Citizens’ Budget Participation Process’.

“We have come up with an initiative that for any community ready to defend itself, we will give them necessary support and training to engage criminals before the arrival of the security agents.”

"I went to a village, Tsamiyar-jino, where it took me two hours inside a jeep before I reached the village from the main road. So, if bandits attack such areas, from the time you inform the security, it will take them over two hours before they can respond to the distress call. By then, whatever is going to happen will have happened. They will have killed people and kidnapped others.

"I have said several times that the security agents cannot do this work alone. We don’t even have enough of them. I am surprised at the way we are dying in such a humiliating manner. We were told that anyone who died in defence of his family would enter paradise.

"You see five criminals attacking a community of 2,000 to 3,000 people, rape daughters, women and abducting others without any confrontation from the people of that community. If there are 100 youths in the community who confront them, they will not shoot more than three times without being captured with bare hands.

"Paying ransom doesn’t even prevent a hostage from being killed by abductors. Sometimes they collect the money and kill the victim.”

The governor said even community leaders connive with bandits to attack communities for monetary gains.

“There was a representative of the village head who collected N700,000 from bandits and allowed them to enter his area and killed about 30 people,” the governor said.

"There were women arrested, and a teacher serving as their informant, in fact, almost all the segments of people are involved in this act.”

Radda said his government has created a community security watch corps to protect residents.

We trained them and attached them with the police and the army to work in synergy after providing them rifles, bulletproof vests, umbrellas, three sets of uniforms and shoes, among others,” he added.

The governor said the security operatives were equipped with 700 motorcycles, 65 Hilux cars and 10 armoured personnel carriers (APC).

We pay N3 million for fuelling and maintenance of those vehicles to front-line local governments, and N1.5 million for vulnerable local governments and N750,000 for the remaining LGAs,” he said.

"We also purchased surveillance gadgets that you cannot find anywhere in the country. Our own is 5G and not the normal 3G.”

Katsina is one of the North-West states where bandits have been wreaking havocs, subjecting residents to untold hardship.

Good one.

But the society seems corrupt more than that, who knows if their informants are even among the security operatives.

If there could be corrupt Police and Army officers, and even informants among them, how much more...

The Social Contract is BROKEN. Our politicians broke it and the masses need to ACT accordingly.

Imagine the Governor of a State putting the responsibility of STOPPING attackers with guns squarely on the shoulders of CIVILIANS while making EXCUSES after EXCUSES as to why it's impossible for security agencies to do their jobs.

Civilians picking up arms to defend themselves should be the LAST resort, NOT the first line of defence.

If it takes TWO hours to get to a village, set up a security CHECKPOINT closer to the village. Or simply, station a few Policemen or soldiers INSIDE the community.

USELESS Governors like this one should stop blaming their people for getting killed and kidnapped.

Oga Radda-radda, it still remains 4 simple truths left for you to say:

- restructuring by going back to regions
- referendum to determine whether we continue this British madness or break up peacefully

- state police
- license assault rifles for well-trained and vetted men and women over 25 yes/ 30 yes of age

That's is the case! There are, they are all over the place, very numerous. It is very terrible. They should just declare state of emergency in the entire country abeg. The country is quarter to anarchy.

See ehn, this black people in Nigeria don't want to use logic to solve their problem!

They don't want to do anything about their problem

How can these guys go on marrying minimum 4 wives and birthing 7 children per woman when Nigeria is a borrow borrow bambialala country? A country that 90% of the population is unproductive! How for God's sake?

Even the originators of their religion (Arabs) don't behave in this reckless manner.

Bandit leaders are part of the government of these states. That's what you get in an unfortunate British experiment ruled by a drug criminal and fake accountant.

This is how you build anarchy.

Truth is that the north has a large expanse of land with little inhabitants.

If they can adopt a modular structure of operations not only for security related matters but also in administration and also interrelate with other modular communities it will foster collaboration and quicker problem solving.

Northerners eventually will learn to think straight.

The so-called EndBadGovernance protests taught them a very valuable lesson.

If you destroy your own society and infrastructure, na you go suffer am.

In Kano, they can barely penetrate Igbo shops in Sabon Gari, because those ones are well armed... eventually na fellow Hausa shops them dey loot.

Well Care supermarket run by Lebanese and well fortified, right in city centre... them no born them well to enter.

Eventually the Hausa Middle Class suffered the most.

They thought they were disturbing GEJ with Boko Haram and terrorism. Now it's gone out of hand. The over population they were encouraging for electoral advantages has become a huge economic disadvantage with millions of almajiri.

It will take security agents 2 hours and above to rescue those people, but it will take govt tax and revenue agents less than twenty minutes to get to the community angry sad. Why should security be far from the people to such an extent? Security, health care and food are supposed to be short distances from every community embarassed

The governor is giving an excuse that it will take 2 hours before army or police can reach a community that is being attacked.

What about use of helicopters?

Shettima will handle security bla bla bla. Na to buy 150 billion naira plane for Tinubu be the priority.

If all the political leaders genuinely ready to work with security forces, I biliv I biliv banditry and terrorism would reduce by 70% in less than 6 months.

The politicians and DPO know 95% of criminals in their communities, but because they are tools for political attainment, they celebrate criminals that are supposed to be behind the bars .
