High Electricity Tariff Will Kill Businesses – APC Chieftain, Joe Igbokwe Cries by adenigga(m): 11:24am On Sep 08
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Joe Igbokwe, has cried out to President Bola Tinubu to look into the new electricity tariff in the country.

Igbokwe, a staunch supporter of Tinubu’s presidency, said the development will kill businesses if the Nigerian government doesn’t act as quickly as possible.

In a post on his Facebook page on Saturday, Igbokwe lamented that N20,000 worth of units now only last for just a day.

The APC chieftain, therefore, urged the government to review the electricity tariff.

He said: “PBAT, please look into the new electricity tariff in Nigeria. It will kill businesses if the government does not act as quickly as possible. I have a small office in Surulere with about about 7 units of AC.

“We used to buy 300 plus units for N20,0000. Yesterday we bought N20,000 worth of units and it lasted for just one day. They call it band A group. I pray that we review this.”

He didn't mention the amount of increase in tariff so I doubt if it is actually substantial.

While I understand Mr Igbokwe’s complaint, I do believe that the infrastructures around electricity will only get better if the tariff is market-reflective.

It’s no coincidence that since tariff has gone up, Genco’s have ramped up production and we want that trend to continue.

Also, gov is struggling to pay subsidy, which would mean more debt and poor infrastructure around electricity.

Once the super grid are on board, and metering gap is reduced, you would see more liquidity in the market, which would mean more competition, thereby lowering cost in the long run.

Mr President should tell oil importers to use their huge capital to transition into becoming Gencos, as electricity industry is going through a revolution and will be awash with liquidity very soon. They should let local refineries thrive.

NNPC just announced they are about to build a new power plant. This signals that increase in electricity tariff is already attracting investors.

You think that a government that is so insensitive to your plight by removing every possible subsidy which translated to high cost of energy and other services they provide will care about you?
This resulted in inflation and higher cost of living.
They end up looting the same money from the subsidy they removed.

VAT is also projected to go up.

#50 deductions on deposits above #10000.

All of these while the masses are still swallowing the bitter pills of subsidy removal and currency devaluation.

Tell me about a government that is arrogantly insensitive.

As BAT's people will say, go and buy handfan, it is not a must to use AC.

But on a serious note, what is a small office doing with 7 AC units?

Bro with relentless failure of Tinubu glaring in all aspect of governance sooner or later you will tire. Tinubu multidimensional failure at governance is indefensible at least to the best of my own knowledge.

Make this foolish man no even fit introduce one single policy his supporters can be proud of.
