Goodnews

It's been a very tough year for farmers, both crop farmers and livestock farmers are taking hits on every sides. Even the best of business strategist & project managers have failed woefully in farming world.

Recently, I have decided to put everything aside and simply go back to the basics, no cucumbers, no tomatoes grin, just the very basics. In short, no pilot projects, no experimental trials.... Na just to go plant wetin person wey never plant before fit do without any supervision and get it right.

Moreover, my selection of vegetable to plant is simply Soko and Tete, no long story. Pleaseeeee, no Ugu for the matter. A paint bucket of Ugu seeds now goes for as much as 30k. Na instantly I ex my beloved Ugu.

While at it, I am going to be giving a detailed account of how much a plot of this vegetables will be giving at every harvest. Yea, i plan to use a plot on my farm to carry out this farming.

Driving through Lasu- Iba road really gives me joy, looking at the open field filled with very green vegetables spun this project of mine. Moreover, let's see together if truly money dey this thing called vegetables that is hardly ever talked about here.

Note,I am so keen on keeping production cost as low as possible & also a lover of organic farming. Therefore, 95% of what we will using is strictly compliance with organic farming grin

Your cost composition is not comprehensive enough
What happened to the cost of land preparation and other associated cost
Kudos, you are doing a good job

Hmmm... nothing else is associated with what was initially posted. Everything else was done by me... from land clearing to burning the debris, making of beds, applying manure and finally, transplanting. Shikena!!!

Well, this may not be applicable to all. You can pay for it if you chose to. For me, making the beds isn't such a big deal grin. I gave myself a target of making 4 beds per day till i populate the whole one plot. Na bed making I dey use while away boredom undecided. . Likewise, manure from my poultry birds is been used. I have that in excess. And as for water, there's a borehole on the farm. Also, a well as a backup plan (I no get time to go dey look for fuel if light no dey and water finish for thank)

Cost reduction is Key for me. angry gbam!!!

Hmmm... ( cry)

To the question asked, it's something close to a 6 by 3 student bed size. For the soko, something around 4/5inch spacing between plants, and 3inch for the Tete. (Approximately).

The spacing also helps in applying manure inbetween rows. Also, those who may want to apply Urea fertilizer. As for me, I don't intend using such. Team poop all the way. grin cool

How do you transplant this much plants? Is it done individually, or you pick a bunch and transplant them?

Lol... Yes to Ewedu. No one transplants Ewedu, it's better to broadcast. For Soko and Tete, well, for personal consumption or let's say, backyard farming, you can spread around.

For better results, it better to plant individually. One plant per stand, with each at least 4inches apart as stated earlier.

From your experience,
1) How long does it take for your ewedu to regrow after harvesting the leaves (If you don't uproot the whole leaves?
How long does it take your TETE, SHOKO, and EWEDU to mature if you are growing from seeds?

Thank you.

Q1. I have never harvested Ewedu without uprooting. At least, market-wise, it's more easier sef to just uproot the mature ones and let the younger ones regrow immediately. And once it's all done, replant immediately.
Nevertheless, for home consumption I guess you could break off some branches and let it regrow. Business wise, it's a BIG NO!!!

Q2. From the seed? The whole cycle is around 5weeks to 6weeks max. Barely 10days from seed sowing to transplanting, and from transplanting, you will be surprised how fast Tete and Soko grows. For Ewedu? The harvesting is continuous cos the dispersal methods used allows new ones to keep growing once the mature ones are out of the way.
