NLC Issues 12 Midnight Ultimatum To FG To Release Ajaero by Dapromzy333(m): 6:38pm On Sep 09
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a Monday midnight ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding the unconditional release of its President, Joe Ajaero, News360 Nigeria reports.

The NLC warned of severe consequences if Ajaero is not freed.

In preparation, the NLC has scheduled a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting for 9am on Tuesday to decide on the next course of action should Ajaero remain in detention.

In a communiqué at the end of its National Administrative Council, NAC, meeting signed NLC Deputy President, Prince Adewale Adeyanju, the NLC said “The National Administrative Council (NAC) of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) convened an emergency meeting today to address the alarming and unlawful arrest and detention of Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC, by agents of the Nigerian Government.

“Comrade Ajaero was arrested and detained at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja while en-route to the United Kingdom, where he was scheduled to attend and address the Congress of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Britain, representing Nigerian workers in critical discussions on workers’ rights and social justice.

“After extensive deliberation, the NAC resolved as follows: The Council unequivocally condemns the brazen and illegal detention of Comrade Joe Ajaero by the Nigerian State without any legal warrant or justification.

“The NLC notes with grave concern that Comrade Ajaero was lawfully discharging his duties to represent Nigerian workers and had not committed any offense warranting such action. His detention is an affront to the rights of workers and the democratic principles of freedom of movement and expression.

“The NLC demands the immediate and unconditional release of Comrade Joe Ajaero before 12 midnight today. The Council reiterates that Joe Ajaero is not a fugitive or a criminal, and his detention is an act of intimidation aimed at silencing dissent and stifling the labor movement’s voice in Nigeria. NAC also demands the immediate reversal of the current hike in the price of petrol to N617/Litre.

“State of Alert: The Congress places all its affiliates, State Councils, Civil society allies, and the Nigerian populace on red alert. The detention of Comrade Ajaero is an attack not just on the NLC leadership but on the rights of all workers and citizens to organize, protest, and express themselves freely.

“The NLC will not stand by while these rights are trampled upon. This provocation is another attempt by the State to scuttle the implementation of the new National Minimum Wage.

“The NLC reaffirms its commitment to defending the rights of Nigerian workers and citizens. The Congress will not relent in its efforts to oppose all forms of oppression. NAC – in – session therefore summons an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) by 9:00 AM tomorrow, the 10th day of September, 2024 to take compelling action to engage the current forces of retrogression.

“The NAC urges the Nigerian Government to reverse this dangerous trend of authoritarianism and lawlessness, which threatens the country’s democratic fabric. NAC in session demands the immediate implementation of the New National Minimum Wage which has been signed into Law. The Nigeria Labour Congress will not waver in its duty to protect the rights of workers and the freedom of all Nigerians.

Does Nigerian law grant immunity from investigation, arrest, interrogation and prosecution to an incumbent NLC president?

🤔

Edit:
Available9:

At your age, one expects you to know the difference between investigation and harassment...but politics has blinded you

Common sense should tell you it’s just a question with no bias, but instead, quick judgment, clouded by your own sentiments, took over.

If you had read my further comment, you would have understood why I asked.

Did I say I support anyone?

For your information, I simply want to understand the laws and any loopholes regarding this case that might be exploited, allowing entities to abuse constitutional protections. Examples include vague clauses and ambiguous language.

The question was aimed at someone knowledgeable in the law so I could follow up with another question, but so far, I’ve been disappointed.

Next time, be mindful. Don’t let bias cloud your judgment before making assumptions, even in favor of your own family. There’s no intelligence in that, and it would be wise to stay in control of your thoughts.

Good morning. cool

LIBYA 🇱🇾 pro max loading .....

This nation was vibrant and full of life years ago.
Where the average man can easily purchase a liter of fuel and a cup of garri.
The years of restoring the glory of the country have given way to years of sorrow.
Because of poor governance, the youths' common hope for survival is dishonesty and fraud.
The nation's situation continues to deteriorate every day.
With teary eyes,
I questioned whether we truly have leaders.
Suicide is a last resort for those who are unable to cope As the sole choice .
Recall a child soldier's voice from a time of war.
When I die, Mom takes my shoe and gives it to someone who will protect my father's land.
This sound never stops resonating in my mind about the child soldiers who were brutally murdered while fighting for a better nation.
The country that was once the pride and largest country in Africa has shrunk to a stock.
Food shortages and insecurity are currently plaguing the nation, despite its wealth of natural resources because of the evil leaders.
May God Almighty assist us.

They will be alright las las. I hope the Attorney General of the Federation is not 'sleeping' wink

For certain, in Lagos, we will not observe any illegal strike over someone alleged to be planning to violently overthrow our President when we know that except the courts convict you, you are presumed innocent and not even an unnecessary strike will have any impact on this obvious fact when you are arrested for questioning over such a serious allegation.

If these Labour Party (EluuPee) members of the opposition are allowed to sabotage any national asset or switch off the national grid, the National Security Adviser and the Service Chiefs must be held responsible for not fulfilling their constitutional mandate.

May God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!

Tinubu wants to control NLC and weaken it's independence just like he has done to other national institutions.... He is bent on imposing his will by forcefully orchestrating the illegal removal of current NLC president over outrageous fuel price increases, end bad governance protests and N70,000 minimum wage implementation debacle.... What will happen next will be to illegally detain Ajaero indefinitely, this is why NLC must as a matter of urgency declare a nationwide protest strike now to demand for Ajaero's release and this strike/protest should not be called off until he is released....

They shouldn't release the idiot abeg, infact let them keep him locked up till Tinubu is done in 20yrs time. When he was supposed to be on the side of the masses the idiot was busy toying with the whole thing.

But on a more serious note,so this NLC values their mumu president who's more concerned about enriching his own pocket more than the lives of Nigerians abi? undecided. Fuel price hike has been taking place for some time now but the cowards refused to raise alarm but simply because an individual refused to submit himself to the authorities, there warranting his arrest, una don begin to threaten undecided
I don't know why they are telling us ,do they think we care, ajero was never with the people so the people are also not with him ,he should face his music alone

I'm a very compassionate person and it has nothing to do with hunger.

Or you want me to keep supporting someone who has shown no sign of empathy on the masses. I will call him out same way I supported him, that's how I am.
If not that I wasn't brought up to insult elders no matter what I would have finished him.

NLC should act fast and let's take down this bastards called APC and Tinubu... There are plans ongoing to unsit the bastard called Tinubu.

Declare indefinite strike before daybreak irrespective of whatever outcome. Let's start from there... It's time to shut down Nigeria and be ruthless in demanding good governance.

Tinubu has fallen and it's very obvious... He who the gods wants to destroy, they first make mad.
