Oba Eweka II, Christened Aiguobasimwin ( Aiguobasimwin β€˜ogie) at birth, little did the people know that the name was indeed a prediction of the challenges that lay ahead of him in life. Aiguobasimwin faced a tough contest and opposition to his enthronement as Oba of Benin and would defend his crown and his freedom against various attacks throughout his reign, staged by powerful chiefs and influential subjects, fuelled by fear and distrust, and instigated by the colonial government.Β Following Benin coronation traditions, Aiguobasimwin was invested with the title of Edaiken of Uselu on 24 April 1914, and, after the funeral obsequies of his father, crowned Oba with the title Eweka II at Usama on 24 July 1914.

Oba Ovonranwen Nobiagisi was prophecied to become extremely famous around the world, even while he was young, his name literally means the rising sun that shines overall
But The Most Revered and Honoured in Benin till this day Remains OBA Ewaure Nogidigan the Great.

Who was a pace setter among many obas

His son too Oba Ozolua Nibaromi(the Conqueror) was also noted for his fame and greatness
Ozoloua Son

OBa Esigie is also noted as being one of the greatest for his many battles he fought both internally and externally especially when it came to his deep christian faith.

Esigie's son Oba Orghobua who was a trained priest before becoming Oba was aslo famous for his sailing escapades.

Aside this great line of OBAS THere are many others

Like Oba Ewedo, who was among the greatest during the early days of benin and the first to limit the powers of the Uzamas

Also Oba Akenzua Nisorho(the rainy sky was known for his wealth and power)

Oba Ewaukpe was noted for his violence and bloodshed and his days experienced mutiny in benin

Oba Osemwende was also a powerful warripr oba

Oba Ehengbuda was the last oa however to physically lead benin soldiers to war.

And Oba Eweka remains the very first to hold thee title of Oba.

In all i maintain that Oba Ewaure shines the brightest among all, i did a documentary video on his life, i Will sharethe link

Below is a video detailing oba ewaure's rise and days

I did another video of The UZeawar which contained the life of Oba Ozolua

But many in the comment of this particular story didn't like the accounts

Mind you its oral history and their are varying accounts and this particular one is a big controversy amongst the edo peoples

How did a cripple oba Ewaure's father became a king, Isn't it against tradition for a cripple to crowned a king. Wasn't it the same reason why queen Idia succeeded in making her son who was the third his father's successor because the first two sons from the other women were crippled (disabled)

Oh yes,the truth is that the Oba may have become crippled after he was already crowned and this ultimately led to his disadvantaged position among the chiefs who later killed him,
This point in history however, i haven't really studied it so i do not know completely

Yes thats the correct pronounciation,
Ewaieh, but it is spelt as Ewaure.

I actually got the correct pronounciation, during the coronation of the new oba who took the same name,
When the Oliha(head of the Uzama) announced his name, he pronuonced it without the R sound
