Probably because it's cheaper to import than buy from dangote
Have you done price comparison to arrive at this? Dangote that can't even tell us the price he is selling PMS.

Dangote will eventually have to bow to the pressure from the importers. They are a solid mafia and they know the game too well. There's a reason ALL the government owned refineries are not working. These importers and marketers control the industry and can ruin any refinery if they decide not to do business with that refinery.

Most of these importers get forex from CBN and sell in the black market and make huge profits. They also do what is called round tripping. They import petroleum product, and bribe officials at the department of petroleum resources, NNPC and the likes. They get the subsidy for the products they imports, let's say 30 million metric tonnes. They discharge only 10 or 15 million and then take the rest to neighboring African countries to sell. This is after they have been paid subsidy on 30 million metric tonnes.

It is a hard battle fir Dangote. There are too many players and too much of money to be cut out if his refinery is successful. Nigerians and Nigeria will benefit the most if he is successful.

No meal was served inosson. Jonathan supported him fully likewise Buhari and now Tinubu. Keep your usual tribalism to one side. Innoson was patronize by the military under Buhari, the man you people hated for no reason and he even gave you people a brand new second niger bridge that you people have been crying for since Obasanjo's time. Go and Google the role all this past president i mentioned played about the support they gave to him.

They obviously want to sell their subsidy price and poor quality because of the secrecy and corruption involved in importation.

The Nigerian masses suffer for it.

Exactly! They can deceive we nigerians cos we know little but people in the game with him can't be deceived. It's like Nigerian rice if it was cheaper people would buy it and leave foreign rice alone. That the concept I see playing out here

I'm always surprised when Nigerians talk about Dangote being a monopoly grin in a cement market with alternatives. Even Apple with a massive share of the US smartphone market doesn't get called a monopoly by the US government. At worst they get sued for anticompetitive practices if any at all.

Now that we have a private producer of all crude the foolish FG government led by the incompetent Tinubu n the lunatics CBN n finance minister should with immediate effect stop selling Nigeria hard earned dollar to fuel importers.

Nigeria no longer as a need for it let the marketer source dollar where ever they can the way vehicle importers do n bring their product when they see there is no margin of profit nobody go tell them.

Selling dollars to this criminals is another scheme ruining the finances of the country Bola Tinubu n his foolish government do not have any justification to sell dollars to fuel importers.

My biggest takeaway from all of this

If thats the case, then FG needs to look for a way to find a connecting bridge between Dangote's profitability and Marketers fair price cap

Meeting all local demands will eliminate scarcity and these silly dubious acts by the marketers and the conmen in NNPC

If Dangote continues to export most of his products and Marketers keep importing theirs, then the Dangote refinery is useless to us all

PBAT should be serious about this.

So how does that benefit us?

You can't eat your cake and have it at same time. That loan contract buhari took against petroleum products is coming back to bite us. The government propaganda have totally shut out this angle to the public. The cash meant to purchase from dangote must be channeled into part of the loan deals called futures contract. Meaning we must import processed crude from the entities tied to those contracts. This the only way those countries and their businesses can redeem their loan and interest on it. The middle men facilitating this part of the deal are stationed in Dubai, so they buy at low value, refine and sell it back to us for profit. While some percentage of the finished products goes to nations like Malaysia, Indonesia, China, india and couple of others.

What if Dangote's prices are not pocket-friendly? This is business! Dangote skyrocketed cement prices amidst the naira devaluation without considering Nigerians. why do we believe that he will do otherwise for his petroleum products?

Re: Over 95% Of Petroleum Product Importers In Nigeria Are Not Buying From Dangote by sslcrypt: 2:49pm On Sep 12
Search intensively the period this deal took place, you would realize dangote project on the refinery development slowed down. Because they were trying to figure out how such deal will impact them. Selfish interest is what is killing us now, because how our politicians, bankers and other experts never saw this impact is beyond reasoning. All they wanted was get their hands on the loans all because of politics.

Dangote need not bow to anybody's pressure as long as his products are cheaper or
at the same price with imported one.
The only organization capable of pressuring Dangote is NNPC and the marketers are
merely following its footstep.

This isn't the 2010s anymore.
NNPC is the sole importer of petrol as only NNPC has the forex(not even enough) to import it.
The marketers in this case are merely distributors. No marketer is being paid subsidy, they
buy from NNPC and sell at a profit.

Challenges Facing the Dangote Refinery

1. Low Patronage from Local Importers
- Over 95% of petroleum product importers in Nigeria do not buy from the Dangote Refinery
- Refinery struggles to sell about 29 tankers of diesel per day due to low patronage
2. Export of Diesel and Aviation Fuel
- Most of the refinery's diesel and aviation fuel is exported due to poor local patronage
3. Limited Local Crude Supply
- Dangote Refinery has imported around 57 shiploads of crude due to limited local supply from the NNPC
4. Complaints from Petroleum Product Marketers
- Marketers have written to President Bola Tinubu complaining about the refinery's low diesel prices
- Prices have dropped from N1,200 to N900 per litre, negatively impacting their businesses

Capacity and Production

1. Petrol Production Capacity
- 44% of the refinery's petrol production capacity is sufficient to meet all of Nigeria's local demand
2. Current Fuel Lifting
- Around 29 tankers are lifting fuel from the depot of other importers daily

My take is that the problem of Nigeria are Nigerians. Dangote reduced price of diesel they said he is ruining their business. Nigerians dont want Nigeria to work.

So you mean a sovereign nation cannot renegotiate the terms of the loan versus future contract?
Even as their economy is collapsing because of skyrocketing energy prices which they have under their ground?

Re: Over 95% Of Petroleum Product Importers In Nigeria Are Not Buying From Dangote by elbangeez: 3:48pm On Sep 12
Let me give you the gist, 99% of all these so called independent petrol marketers make their money through importation, they own tank farms, shipping lines and jetties which they have built with millions of dollars. By succumbing and buying from dangote means they will be out of business because they will only buy and sell petroleum products like any other retailer. Thats why their mouthpiece the NMDPRA boss was fighting dangote on their behaf the other day saying Nigeria will not stop fuel imports.
Solsix:
The only thing I deduce from this is that is still cheaper to import all these petroleum products there is no other explanation. And if government stop importation of these products, dangote fit kill us with price.
