Fuel price hike: Ebonyi Govt seals 3 petrol stations

Petrol price hike has worsened our operations — MAN

[quote]Ebonyi State Government has sealed three filling stations within the Abakaliki metropolis in the State.

The petrol stations were sealed following their alleged involvement in sharp practices, and meter adjustments among other related offences.

The Special Assistant to Governor Francis Nwifuru on Petroleum, Mr Nwafor Nnaemeka who stated this while speaking with newsmen in Abakaliki, threatened to seal more Petrol stations, to bring sanity to the Petroleum sector in the State.

According to him, the State Government will continue to seal any fuel stations that fail to live up to its mandate of meeting up with the demands of the masses.

He further warned petroleum dealers and Marketers in the 13 Local Government Areas of the State to shun all forms of fraud, regarding fuel supply and distribution in the State.

According to him: “Fuel pump price hike is a global menace, so far this country is concerned. The sudden increase of the pump price both from the depot to fuel station owners, due to unavailability of products and as it stands now, Ebonyi state is not an exception. It’s almost everywhere in the country and all states are experiencing it.

“We have been working tirelessly to make sure that fuel stations are not under dispensing. We got information that due to the unavailability of the product, people are using the opportunity to defraud the masses.

“That’s why we deployed a task force to go to all the fuel stations in the state to make sure that they monitor the activities of fuel stations closely. So far, we have sealed three fuel stations; Edde Mass, R&C and Dozi oil & gas fuel stations due to under-dispensing.

“We are not leaving any stone unturned and the procession continues and after the urban areas, we will relocate to the rural areas and make sure that the masses get value of what they paid for.

He further debunked the allegations making the round in the state that fake task force agents have flooded fuel stations and are busy extorting money from dealers.

“Anybody who is saying that government is not checkmating the activities of the fuel station owners is not saying the truth, that’s what resulted in the sealing of the 3 fuel stations, and they will not go scotfree, and probably we are going to use them as an example, because it is not good to defraud the masses. They are going to face the full wrath of the law.

“Also, it is not true that fake task force agents are flooding fuel stations in the state. I have task force agents that were approved by Governor Francis Nwifuru, to work under my department to checkmate the sharp practices that are going on in most of the fuel stations in the state, ranging from adulteration, meter adjustments and other unholy activities, thereby making the masses not to get the value of what they paid for.

“For now, there is nothing like fake taskforce agents in the state as far as petroleum is concerned, the taskforce agents we have now are legally approved by the Governor and they are making moves of detecting those faults from the fuel stations” he stated.

Imagine this kind of thing happening within the state, outskirt and rural areas na direct one chance be that na

Is this wickedness not too much? How can one use his hard-earned money to buy fuel so costly only to be given less quantity of it? And these are the kind of filling stations that sells around #1,200 per litre. undecided

Funny enough, some people can't be sure of getting that 1k per day. cry

Great move.
But that is not the solution.
Every state should have state owned petrol stations to check these private owned stations.
If any one becomes greedy, they are pushed out of business.

Many of the citizens are like the leaders we so condemn.
Only small opportunity and they are acting like the wicked political class.
If you enter civil servants office for anything officials, almost same is obtainable most of the time.they want you to pay off record before they do the work they are paid salary for.

Even the state or government owned stations will soon join them to dupe people.
Except if they are not managed by humans from Nigeria.

Imagine paying 1400 per litre yet the litre is incomplete. I once told a pump attendant to fill 5 liters of fuel for me inside a marked gallon, the 5 litres was approximately 3.7litres

. No fuel station sell pms at 1200, most fuel stations in Abakaliki are selling at 1300 to 1250

It's a terrible situation here in Abakaliki. It goes up to 1500 at rural areas

For Agbor, delta state I bought 1,300 per litre. Our governor should start sealing some fueling station to teach the others a lesson about unnecessarily increasing the price of fuel.

The governor should face reality. Subsidy is no longer sufficent to keep fuel below N700. NNPC Limited is feeling the pinch, so they are passing down the cost to the marketers.

The government should wake up and stop paying subsides, and let the market determine the price. Instead of trying to be the Soviet Union, who subsidised everything, till their debt grew larger than their economy.

Good move!

Nope, bad move.

Would you let government control your price?

You guys should realize that price controls do not work, because inflation and the cost of production are things government can not control fully. Even if they think they can, as seen in communist countries back in the day, at the end they end up with mediocre products, and the sad thing is that inflation still rises anyway

It costs money to refine petrol. Years of pretending that it does not has led us here.

Better start supporting subsidy removal. TOTAL SUBSIDY REMOVAL.. Yes, IMF, APC, Yoruba, nigbati...but people will get paid , and the cost of production would be satisfied.

If there had been no subsidy since 1993, we would have been exporting fuels to most of West Africa and beyond by now, maximising our forex earnings...limited as they are.

I understand but we are not there yet! Until there's no more subsidy then everyone can fix their price!

We are at a time an association of Garri sellers will fix their Garri at a particular price per paint!

And anyone who try to sell below their fixed price would be fought by the caucus who are the majority!

Business people act in their interests...they have families, dependents, and so forth to pay for, and inflation and all the harsh things affect them to

So, there is nothing wrong with what garri sellers do.

Infact, OPEC is the international version for oil producers...and God knows how beneficial it has been to Nigeria, especially in the 1970's and early 80's and even as recent as 2008-14.

Nobody does anything for free. In a perfect world for me, garri should cost N10 a mudu and petrol N40 per liter, but that would leave far too many people penniless. Not just the big rich cats. And it would affect production of both because producing stuff...garri or petrol...costs money. Lots of it. We are not in the days of barter.

But the person selling below the general price will make lots of profit too?

Too much profit will kill the masses!

The governor has no right to seal the petrol station afterall you didn't give them money to buy their petroleum products
Re: Fuel Price Hike: Ebonyi Government Seals 3 Petrol Stations by fineboynl(m): 6:56am On Sep 13
..I can bet anyone there is no filling station which meter is correct.

The ones that selling cheaper to draw customers are the worst of them all.

Even NNPC filling station is the worst among them.

What I use to drive in a day with just 2k is now 12k under this government.
Re: Fuel Price Hike: Ebonyi Government Seals 3 Petrol Stations by Akwamkpuruamu: 6:59am On Sep 13
Meter adjustment is a crime and wickedness. You are already selling at a high price of #1200+, but you are still reducing the metre.

Until one fuel station is burnt because of this metre adjustment, others no go get sense

Their 1 litre should be 1 litre. How can someone pay for 10 litres and fuel and won't get up to 10 litres, is that not fraud?
