Guys, I need your advice. I have the MTN ZLT X20 Router... Someone on Nairaland wants to help me unlock it, then I can use Airtel on it. What would you advice? Should I buy the 25k 4g router so I can get the SIM or the Odu unit?

to be honest i will recommend you buy the 4G router!

if you want to buy the sim you can actually get but it will be like 4-5k or so (if you have a better plug)..when you buy the sim you will buy 20k unlimited plan making it 24-25k already and you don't even have a router...you can buy the router and sell it later.

the router came with a sim card, you just have to take it to their office to register it.

Oh i get you now, a friend has the same router and it's reception is way better than that of the ZLT X25PRO, the only problem being that you need to be a bit techy if you need to tweak settings and setup access points.
As for retrieving the units back if consecutive payments are not made, i've never seen it happen cos i know people who drop their units after the first month, however; this might have been true when they were giving out the routers free but for now the router payments are included in the initial payment though subsidized.
so if you area has bad reception i would recommend you buy the ODU units but if it's relatively okay, then the regular X25 or X25PRO should serve you well. Cheers

It's universal. But u'll have to manually add the APN

After consuming exactly 1TB on the Airtel 20Mbps speed capped plan, my speed has now been hard capped to 5Mbps. Someone mentioned it a few weeks back, but I can confirm that it is true.

It wasn't like this from the start cus i have used over 1TB without any throttle now i hardly use more than 100GB+ as Airtel Network don turn shit here the highest you can get is 5Mbps and full 20Mbps in the morning then during the day it's unusable

It's still the best subscription option available from any local mobile broadband Internet provider IMHO. I am yet to experience this throttling you are referring to though. I use an ODU and not the 5G or 4G router.

I don't believe it is device dependent, first calculate your monthly data consumption to ascertain if you have used up to 1tb

It doesn't matter what device you use. Once your consumption reaches 1TB, you would be throttled down. They know that most people would never use up to 1TB within a 30day subscription cycle, and only the few who do would experience the throttling.
