Well.. then! 6 inches are also as good to build any kinda house.

You use the blocks you can afford or you like.

I used 6 inches for an upstair house

If the building is a frame structure, no issue.

And 6" isn't a load bearing and it's not a best practice to be used for external walls.

Gid bless you brother. Maybe na block dey carry the load of the duplex wey he dey build. Instead of him to say 9 inches blocks are good so it flushes with the pillars
when you see copy and pest you go know , i no be engineer but i don see heavier skyscrapers oyimbo dey build here... The outside walls are 4inch wide blocks and inside are mostly fibers to give it lighter weight.. but if U see pillars and solidness u go mad .. for my own little understanding of building and as house owners, block is there to cover space... Even continuous linters no even dey necessary nah waste of materials

Okay, i am not an expert, just that the topic is trying to claim only 9" blocks are good.

That's just the fact. Blocks are just for demarcation and any material can even be used for demarcation. In Some buildings pillars and deckings complete the structure before blocks are lastly used

They no teach u for school say nah pillars dey carry deck .. blocks are there to cover spaces... Most of the high-rise here abroad the walls are fibers not even this Ur 9inch or what... As far the foundation are solid and the deck are well structured if U like use paper bags or ddite cement bags the building go stand

Thank u my brother. I'm a civil engineer as well, I see it as a marketing stunt. Even Onyenka said we can build bungalow without columns. They don't even know d basics, they think all walls are load bearing, they don't know we av framed structures as well and a lot of factors contribute to structural failure, and block size is negligible. So far u no ur total load, then u can adjust ur fdn to accommodate it and give tolerance, same with ur columns and beams, and slab. If these mentioned elements are ok, I don't know wat I need 9" block for. So far it's not even a public structure like school or church dat I will consider varying life load ratio to dead load.

Why are duplex built with timber still standing?? Structures for this pattern. Roof load to beams, slab, column, fdn

All block types are SOLID, you try to say non-hollow block.

Since the structure is spanning to first floor but still at ground floor, then you don't have issue with the block used EXCEPT you discovered there was no COLUMNS introduced to support the above load.

Are there columns with reinforcement in the uncompleted structure?

Yes, I meant non hollow, thanks.
Yes, there are reinforced columns.

my grandpapa house is over 55 years built with brick and the deck is baboo but it still stands till today and ppl still live inside it..... Our engineers are not smart, ppl elsewhere are finding alternative to some costly materials while they still depend on ancient style of building

Yes, there are reinforced columns.

Then no problem with any block being used, just ensure the columns and beams meet the structural standard.

Mud houses tend to disintegrate rapidly around 10+years even though it is cheaper than cement.
However, people who are interested in mud for building can go for baked bricks.
It is more expensive but last longer than cement.

No need to bash professors(who are primarily researchers, not inventors) for not reinventing the wheel.

Research should help lead to some kind of invention or innovation otherwise it becomes irrelevant and almost useless
