You are older than 18 years. Therefore, the National Population Commission will not issue you a birth certificate. Instead of a birth certificate, you will be given an attestation of birth. Note that this attestation of birth letter is completely equal to a birth certificate and carries the same legal weight both in Nigeria and when using it overseas. To get this attestation of birth letter from the NPC, you must first process and present a court affidavit attesting to your date of birth and other personal details, and the affidavit must have a declarant who will be either your father or an older male relative (brother or uncle).

REQUIREMENTS FOR PROCESSING A BIRTH ATTESTATION LETTER
Age declaration affidavit (from High Court). This affidavit must contain the details of both your place of birth and date of birth, the details of your parents and their place of origin, and your home address. Your passport photograph must be attached to the affidavit and the age declaration must also be duly stamped or endorsed by the Commissioner for Oaths.

National Identification Number (NIN).

2 recent passport photographs.

Non-refundable application fee (₦3,000).

Visit the National Population Commission located in the local government secretariat of the State where you reside. When you get to the NPC office, you will be given a form to fill in for your attestation of birth letter.

Thankfully, the National Population Commission (NPC) offers a convenient online portal to complete the process. Visit the NPC website (https://nationalpopulation.gov.ng/) (https://attestation.nationalpopulation.gov.ng/welcome) and navigate to the “Services” section and choose “Birth Attestation.” Click agree below the page and proceed to enter your email address in the provided space and make the online payment of ₦3,000 using the provided secure payment gateway. You’ll receive a confirmation and reference number via email.

Once payment is confirmed, proceed to fill out the online registration form. This includes applicant details, parent/guardian information, hospital/clinic details, and document uploads as mentioned previously.

Carefully review every information and upload for accuracy. Submit the application after confirmation.

Use the reference number to track your application status. Upon completion, you’ll be notified and can download your official birth attestation from your NPC account.

Please ensure a stable internet connection throughout the process. Also, use high-quality scans of documents for clear upload. Alongside, please keep a copy of the reference number for future reference. If you encounter any difficulties, consider reaching out to the NPC through their contact information available on the website.
I just made payment and I'm trying to register now, it says NIN not found. Can I skip the verification of Nin? It says it's for users without nin though. Good afternoon, Ekitiman.
Re: Cost Of A Nigeria International Passport by sirrotex: 3:15pm On Sep 15
Immediately after I submitted and paid I was able to proceed to book an appointment. All was done the same evening and like I said earlier the approval email came a week after.
Olubi15:
I'm confused...thought you can only book an appointment after getting an approval mail. I'm quite sure about this because I did 2 applications on the 29th,1 for myself and boy.My boy got his approval mail a week after and it was after he got the approval mail that I chose an appointment date.

The process was seamless. I already registered, and I was given a temporal one pending when I validate the NIN. By tomorrow I'll go to NIMC office to validate my NIN and complete the process

The issue here is just the removal of my middle name as it doesn't match my NIN. I don't want to change my NIN as it matches with all my other documents that carries just two names

So ha fa with your passport update, have you been able to collect yours??

Receive approval mail before the biometric. Approval mail enables you to proceed to book appointment for biometric.
Check your spam folder.

Hello, Ekitiman and All.

Hope you are having a fine day.

I am about to do a fresh application with the ikoyi office in mind as it is the closest to me.

I stay in Ajah, Lagos. Not sure if there is any other office around.

If i do DIY, do you know if i can get this passport ready in say 2-3 weeks?

Also, considering the recent upgrade, if i have an active Nin with correct information and no need for age attestion, what other documents do i need?

Like the Local Government thing, since i am not from Lagos, is there a way to get the one of my state in Lagos without travelling to my local government for it?

Thank you.

ekitimanalways Good afternoon sir,and thank you for your inputs.

Please sir,I want to ask a question,I was meant to capture on 10th but my application was rejected because the local government of origin certificate was not available(original format),and the version I downloaded online was rejected too, because it was not original,I had to ask for the original to be couriered to me,it even led to the officers seizing my documents with threats of arrest,I found out the were pissed off because it was a DIY application, and one was even saying that I think I am wise abi?

Now that my appointment date has passed, can I reschedule a new appointment date? If yes,how do I go about it,if no can I go on and capture since all required documents are complete.

Ps: I found out I can't reschedule my appointment for my centre, can I go on and capture?

Did you start the process all over? Like did you reapply since the LGA certificate was rejected

And did you receive approval mail before you went for biometrics?

Only Ikoyi Passport Office is only on the Island. The rest (3) are on the Mainland.
If i do DIY, do you know if i can get this passport ready in say 2-3 weeks?
I strongly back your willingness to follow the do-it-yourself (DIY) route. Please note that your passport cannot be ready within 2-3 weeks. It should be ready between 8 and 12 weeks, depending on the availability of passport booklets.

Also, considering the recent upgrade, if i have an active Nin with correct information and no need for age attestion, what other documents do i need?
Requirements for Fresh Passport
Adult (18 years and above)
Letter of identification from local government or state of origin certificate.
Completed online passport application form.
Marriage certificate (for married Nigerian women).
Birth certificate (certificate issued by the National Population Commission) is required from Nigerian passport applicants who were born after 1992. An age declaration (is required from Nigerian passport applicants who were born before 1992) attached with one passport-sized photograph and duly endorsed by a Commissioner for Oaths of a High Court.
Acknowledgement slip and Evidence of payment.

Like the Local Government thing, since i am not from Lagos, is there a way to get the one of my state in Lagos without travelling to my local government for it? May I know your State?

Thank you.

Don't worry, you will get it before 24th and make sure you only go for biometric after you've gotten the approval mail.

Good morning,

I having the same issue , I submitted my application and made payments since 27th of Aug 2024, I booked appointment for 19th of Sept 2024, up till now I have not gotten approval mail, I keep checking my mails and spam folder nothing, whenever I checked my application status it keeps showing ' waiting for approval '

I have been calling the NIS customer care line three times since the second week of appreciation they keep telling me to exercise patient, they are not even asking for my details to troubleshoot, i have sent countless email yet no single feedback, but what really surprised me today was when I called them today the guy man that picked my calls was telling me to keep waiting that my appointment date has a life span of 6 months for capturing, when I asked him if there is anything they can do to troubleshoot and resolve it he said no, that they are not in controll of it although he admitted the fault is from their ends , that I should keep waiting , upon registering my displeasure of not having someone to speak to to help troubleshoot that can gives one the safety that ones issues I been attended to, to at least collect my dtails for troubleshooting, the guy man hung up on me....this situation is so appalling.

Na wah, oh so like this like this now, wetin I go do, I'm so so confused and frustrated, if I had known that DIY applications is like this i wouldn't have venture into it.

NB; it's obvious that it's not when u book an appointment that is too closed to the application date, that causes delay in getting approval, because that was what I was told , I have to make mine to be at least 3 weeks intervals yet I'm having the same issue.

May GOD ALMIGHTY help my case. Amen

From experience, you can only book appointment after your application has been approved, check your status again,on the website and click on resume application/status and see if there will be a difference status.

Go to the passport office for capturing with all the necessary documents, they will direct you to servicom office where your documents will be checked for correctness. Is because they are not sure of the documents you submitted online and want to check them physically (especially that local government of origin) before approval. Once servicom minutes and signs on it, you take it for capturing where your status will be updated. I am having same issue and this is what i was told in festac passport office. 3 of people have successfully captured in my house after registering online by themselves.
