Nigerian citizenship is passed by bloodline, from the parents or grandparents.

German citizenship is also passed by bloodline, from parents to children.

Being born in Germany or Nigeria doesn’t make you a German or Nigerian citizen. It has to be passed by your parents.

So you’re not a citizen by simply being born in either Nigeria or Germany. Only about 10 countries in the world (including the US and Canada) give citizenship by birth.

The exception in Germany’s case is that you can apply for citizenship when you turn 18 if you were born there and meet other requirements
