I tried my best to read the letters from the old Daily Times announcement with my terrible eyes, and this iswhat i got..

The federal government has decreed that all bank deposits made in the three eastern states, except Calabar, between May 31 1967 and January last year, should not be honoured by any bank in Nigeria.

In a decree just published in Lagos, the government says the banks may however honour as par any deposit accounts maintained before May 31, 1967, but not operated in any manner between that date and January 12 last year.

The decree says any bank which contravenes or fails to comply with any of the requirements of the decree, will be guilty of an offense, and will be liable to a funenof 30 pounds for each day during which the offence continues.

It further directs that no civil proceedings shall file be entertained in any court of law on an account of, on in respect of any act, matter or done or purported to have been done by any person under this decree, or in respect of any rights which are extinguished thereunder, and if any such proceedings have been are instituted before at the letter the commencement of this decree, the proceedings will be discharged and made void.

Named as "The Banking Obligations Eastern States Decree 1970", it shall apply throughout the federation!(apostrophe mine)

The decree says that for the purpose of ensuring compliance by commercial banks with the provisions of the decree, every commercial bank shall submit to the Central Bank of Nigeria, periodical statements in respect of all banking obligations affected by the decree...

You seen this part of this evil decree?
That was where Lucifer and all his evil angels came down to earth to work. Whosoever took time to craft this, deserve a place at the right side of the devil.

That the federal government led by Gowon and the Ministry of Finance led by one Awolowo, injected this line in such obnoxious decree against a people who just survived a genocide, is patently evil.

How on earth did you expect that no one would have accessed his/her accounts or withdraw from it in a war zone , if he had the chance? I mean with starvation as the biggest main instrument of the war? And how can you stipulate that even if its for withdrawals, once the accounts were used, it becomes frozen! for eternity!??

Explain that..

God dey shaa

The above was a deliberate attempt to cripple the economy of the then SE region.

The question is why should the region be punished for the actions of their leaders then?

Awolowo stole all those money promised his people that their superior are down forever.

That's why they are envying and hating on seeing how God have make them stronger again.

They even declared indigenization few months later because Igbos has no money to participate.

Today where are those companies they took over.

Why would Ojukwu out of wickedness quickly raid all the neighbouring banks even when government were reluctant in going ahead with the war?? Why did ojukwu in his deluded brains quickly sold all the oils in the neighbouring south south state, killing all indigenous dissents that went against him! So government should not protect the vulnerable states Ojukwu in his deluded and greedy brains was thinking he will use south south oil to fight the federal government ! Thinking in his deluded brain that he had advantage over the federal government! So greedy he had to corner all foods meant for civilians, babies, women, kids! For him selves and his deluded Biafran soldiers! You can imagine how greedy an Ibo man can condescend to just to grab power! But alas, little did he know his masters AWOLOWO understand all his greedy antics and his evil agenda!the rest is history! GOD BLESS GOWON! God bless AWOLOWO!

Can you imagine the wicked, draconian, selfish, inhumane and evil policy dished on Igbos by Awolowo who was then the finance minister? They even went further to decree that their action will not be challenged in any court to further perpetuate their evil.

Awolowo is a pure definition of evil. The good thing is that his myopic reasoning and evil machinations NEVER stopped the great Igbo Nation from making progress. Am sure he will be gnashing his teeth in the hottest part of hell seeing that those he planned to wreck and annihilate have come up to buy his ancestral lands, and are leading in all human, social and economic development indices.

Little wonder his biased free education to his kinsmen yielded no dividends visibly today.

I am proud to be Igbo. The more you press them down, the more they wax strong. Their aim was to make sure Igbos were pauperized so that they would beg before they eat. But God pass them all

And that's the reason the 'master' decided to starve innocent women and children and also made sure the Igbo masses who just survived a genocide must not have access to their funds. The man was a wicked and devilish master. But the God's people survived

In many cases, those who lose war pay the cost of financing the war.

You should be grateful.

The whole essence of the decree was to prevent the Igbos from using their funds to finance Biafra and it worked.

My father as a young man, came back to Lagos after the war empty-handed and was reabsorbed by Bata shoes where he worked before the war started... few years later, he retired from Bata shoes after being in charge of their shoes' sole production line, bought plots of land not too far from the Bata shoe factory and started his own block making factory, employed many Ghanaian workers to run a 24hrs production shift using the knowledge he gained from his British bosses in Bata shoes.

He was a subcontractor during the construction of the National Arts Theatre and Festac Town, supplying blocks, granite and gravel, later supplied blocks during Jakande's tenure, for the construction of classroom blocks he built to increase school enrolment of Lagos children.

When there is the will, there is a way no matter the obstacles.

I thought Igbo people has the best weapons and economic institutions?
If awolowo said the banks there should close, what stops the coward Ojukwu from introducing his own currency and strengthening it against the Naira?

Avoid your perennial chameleonic traits for once.

In your initial post, you were celebrating that Nigeria made those who lost the war "pay the war cost"

Here, you are desperately trying to celebrate the warped notion that "Nigeria accepted and integrated them to their fold", simply because a man refused to die.

Can you just choose a side, stick to it, grind it to the last, wear it like a badge of honor and stop running from pillar to post, battling your conscience?

Yes, you must pay the cost of war.

That doesn't change the fact that you are integrated into society.

You don't think you deserve any punishment for your tomfoolery.
