The people who said Nigerians don't pay taxes should know that there are direct and indirect taxes. No one evade indirect taxes. Then there are many other forms of direct taxes that cannot be evaded. It is only PAYE that low income earners in private sectors don't pay. But in most states, you pay them to access government services. The problem is the corruption we are talking about which this government has not done anything about it. As a new government, Tinubu should have reformed the Customs, FIRS and every other department and ministry to align with his vision. But he has non for them. Just started from day one to fight against fuel and the dollar. Even if he like let him collect the whole money in the country, nothing will be achieved because his government lacks depth and coordination. 2 Likes |

Why are people complaining? How do you think governments all over the world fund their activities? Making Nigerians pay tax is the BEST thing that could happen. It'll force people to hold their government to account |

The government does not know the down side of multiple and excessive taxation. They will learn the hard way from experience. This government will soon ground the economy. |

nairalanda1:no sir. Fight corruption, close the leaks, then and only then can you increase revenue. People confidence in the government would increase and allow them pay higher taxes if they trust the government and believe all holes are closed. 1 Like 1 Share |

Eddygourdo: We can do both together....or just keep borrowing money. Because even fighting corruption at the end does not guarantee enough cash. That's the thing most of you guys don't get. |

helinues: My own suggestion : eradicate insecurity in the North so that thr farmers can return to the farm. Support more farmers to plant cash crops for export. Provide mentorship and financial resources for smes so the can grow and engage the population. Lastly, the government should stop spending recklessly, buying private jet , useless buildings, yacht, cars and trillions of naira padded I to the budget wtf. |

nairalanda1:it guarantees enough cash. Many of you don't understand how nations have built up to the level they are in. Once you block most holes and stop hemorrhaging money, you would see that the money we currently have can go a really really long way. However it is on that basis you increase tax. Nigeria is a special place, it doesn't particularly have intelligence as one of its strong spots. Thus we cant do two things sir which are polar opposites of themselves. We don't have that capacity as a nation of dullards Kill corruption, close the holes, the ship will stabilise, then start the engines to move it forward. Trying to fix the engine, while water is entering the boat will definitely lead to sinking. |

Tinubu is just a tax collector, nothing upstair. He assembled fellow tax men as economic team. Multiple taxation on same money kill the economy. I earn salary, you tax it heavily. I use part of the salary already taxed to pay for goods you tax the transfer electronically. The product I bought you tax it by VAT. What remain in the money to buy goods and services? The economy is collapsing, you are still taxing it. You are milking a dying cow without anything to make the cow survive. All in its bid to ensure government has money to share among its co politicians in government. He fails to know the economy grows when the people have money, not when the government have the money. Money in the hand of the people create more wealth, more businesses, booming businesses because they can sell more to the people who have the money. Does government buy cerelac? buy Shoes? buy or repait its phones? etc. Then all these businesses suffer because of no or low patronage because Tinubu mopping money from the people to the government. Its badic economic principles as explained by the white people. Tinubu policies kill the economy and will continue to suffer until it is reversed. |
