Edo governorship poll echoed my advice to Peter Obi, says Obidigbo

The President of Osisioma Foundation, Dr. Chike Obidigbo, has expressed dismay at the mixed reactions trailing the recent Edo State governorship election, saying that the observations and outcome of the poll underscored his advice to Mr. Peter Obi.

He disclosed that as a long time friend and elder brother, he had been urging the 2023 Presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) to channel his energies to other interests, especially to his concern for the wellbeing of young people, and the overall interest of his immediate constituency, instead of continued involvement in Nigeria’s putrid politics.

Obidigbo said he was surprised to hear some commentators chiding Obi for supporting Olumide Akpata, who was accused of breaching the zoning arrangement in Edo State, not minding the democratic inclination of the former LP presidential candidate.

In a statement, yesterday, the elder statesman regretted that the Nigeria system has been skewed against those who insist on doing things the right way like Peter Obi, who will always insist on doing things the right way. He added that the Igbo are usually frustrated by the Nigerian system that upholds double standards and conspiracy.

He wondered why those that criticized Obi for supporting Akpata did not find their voice in 2023 when it was obvious that the power rotation favoured the Southeast.

“Nigerians should have come together to insist that all the major political parties recognise that it was the turn of the Southeast to produce the President, since the politicians were not prepared to repeat the 1999 standard that threw up all presidential candidates from the Southwest.

“With all the antics of the INEC, security agencies and the Judiciary, the question Nigerians will resolve in 2027 is whether the country's democracy will continue without an Igbo person at the pinnacle of leadership.

“Northeast is having another four years after previous eight as Vice President. Northwest has had eleven years as President and three years as vice president. Southwest is on another four years after cumulative sixteen years as president and vice president respectively.

“If Nigeria has become a rogue nation that has no respect for the rule of law, fairness and equity, now would be time to review the union. How can there by democracy without respect for the rule of law? When injustice is perpetrated against the Igbo, everybody keeps quiet, including the Igbo socio-political elites,” he stated.

Obidigbo declared that the insult and denigration of Igbo in Nigeria has attained an unbearable turn, saying that it is time for all Igbo to begin to give serious thought about this systematic exclusion.
He lamented that politicians from Southeast have been frightened so much so that none of them is bold enough to speak out about the growing injustice and maltreatment of the Igbo in the Nigeria project.

“These Igbo politicians have become mere breadwinners. They are not representing anybody except their bellies and narrow political interests. Look at the case of Nnamdi Kanu, he has been jailed through the backdoor just for speaking up against the growing injustice and serious mistreatment of his people.

“If things are done the proper way in this country and Igbo are not visited with hate and gang up, Kanu would not be agitating. His quest for referendum is because Nigeria has been rubbing salt into the Igbo injury for the past 64 years and counting. What nation does not respect its laws?” he queried.
The Osisioma Foundation boss said the outcome of the Edo State governorship was a veiled message to Mr. Peter Obi that Nigeria is not yet ready for his kind of politics of nation building, stressing that the nation is doomed when politicians feel no qualms to bribe, conspire and steal elections.
He stated: “So, as a friend of Peter Obi for very many years, I urge him to stop further efforts at trying to improve Nigeria’s leadership recruitment process. He is too decent for the kind of duplicity being played in Nigeria. He does not belong there.
“My take is that Peter Obi should channel his vast energy and wide acceptance towards the liberation of his suffering people, rather than waste them on an ungrateful and unreasonably antagonistic people. Enough of these pretences, Obi has too much to offer to a system that is so locked in filth.”
While lamenting that the off-cycle election in Edo State showed that Nigerians are yet to come to terms with the crucial issues that underpin good governance and responsible leadership, Obidigbo remarked that the system has been skewed against those who insist on doing things the right way, saying he does not see any change in the nearest future.
He declared that every political move after the 2023 general election tends to expose a subtle plot against Obi, adding that each balloting opportunity leaves the ugly impression that democracy was deteriorating from bad to worse.
“Nigeria is turning itself into a laughing stock to other African countries that once looked up to the country as a ready example of democratic success.  Barely 16 months after the last general election, irregularities like official manipulation, voter suppression, ballot trading and intimidation have continued to feature as the standard operating manual of electoral process.
“It is most painful that both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have refused to drop their inclination towards impunity, but chose to progress in error. By indulging in all antics aimed at power grab, it is not surprising that corruption has continued to flourish with no end in sight.

“Reports from many credible and highly respected Election Monitoring organisations, including YIAGA Africa and the Situation Room observed that various forms of electoral malfeasance, especially irregular collation, vote buying and vote heist defined the outcome of the Edo election.

“Yet, the APC national chairman had the effrontery to boast that the success of Edo election will be replicated in Anambra and Ondo States.
“With this flawed process, it is mindboggling that INEC refused to make use of the humongous powers granted it by the establishment laws. Rather, some officials of the commission see election as golden opportunity to gang up with powers that be for primitive acquisition.”
Obidigbo remarked that INEC’s indifference and collusion have combined to enable politicians to impose themselves on the people through crooked means, lamenting that the lawlessness and desperation of political office seekers are setting the wrong examples for young Nigerians.
He stated: “How can these crop of leaders that get into political positions serve as role models for the youths, the acclaimed leaders of tomorrow? It is becoming a tradition that nobody wants to do the right things or follow due process in the quest for public office.

“This is why I urged my younger brother, Mr. Peter Obi to leave the stage and stop trying to show what leadership by example should be, because the people seem not ready yet for that.

“The former Anambra State governor has shown that he is too pure and clean for Nigeria. Corruption, lying and cheating have become a way of life to Nigerians such that whoever tries to parade integrity and modesty is looked at as stranger and intruder.”

The elder statesman reiterated that the Edo State election was programmed to serve a higher, but ignoble purpose, stating that the plan was to demoralize genuine voters from participating in elections as well as create the impression that leaders can only emerge through hook and crook.

“But, on the flipside, I think these deplorable electoral practices would help to mobilise Nigerians of good conscience to get ready to make 2027 impossible for INEC and desperate politicians to trample on their inalienable rights.

“This rape of the people’s fundamental rights should stop or Nigerians will redefine the country’s democracy. Experience has shown that whenever security agencies are mobilized for elections, those at the helm try to take advantage of the command and control structure in the military hierarchy to carry out their parochial intentions.

“And, with the judiciary dancing to the tunes of the executives or the highest bidders as well, this dangerous trajectory may justify the saying that when constitution fails, compulsion and confusion follows.”

nice and interesting read. it's De ja vu all over again, we Nigerians are not ready to build this country, if we are ready the rest of the world will know.

This primitive ways of acquiring power in a supposed democracy, I dont know if it's a black man's thing or universal.

Everything is just wayo, wayo, yet when other countries call Nigeria and Nigerians corrupt and unsalvageable we get angry and defensive.

These guys even changed the country's national anthem on the premise of building a cohesive and stronger nation then turn around bastardize the institutions that makes the society function.

I dont foresee any changes in the next 15 years.

Simply saying that this country is irredeemable and quite difficult for the good ones to succeed and possibly occupy political position. Tribalism and illiteracy have greatly destroyed this country and politicians are capitalizing on such weakness to divide this beautiful country.
Sometimes I feel the same way too... advising Peter Obi not to bother contesting again but again I remember that he actually won the 2023 election but Eye-neck collaborated with enemies of progress and denied him the presidency.
Hoping that 2027 will offer a better hope for Nigerians.

Obi should forget about this Nigeria of a thing. Anybody insisting on doing things the right way is waisting his or her time in this skewed Nation.
For example, In Nigeria if a Candidate refused or dodged an election Debates while seeking for votes, just know that he has won the election, meanwhile it should be the other way round in even South Africa here in Africa.
Also if a Candidate is not generally loved or accused of forgery or financial crime before an election, he has won the election already.
That's the society we found ourselves

For things to turn around in Nigeria, Another 150 years may pass, not with these crop of humans as leaders and followers of nowadays

Obi has interest of young people and his region at heart?
That's funny to hear.
Someone who hiked tuition fees and said education is not for the poor during a heated protest in Awka all of a sudden has the interest of the young people at heart.
Those f00Iing themselves are great at doing it.
All of a sudden, Obi who annexed the 3rd tier of govt in Nigeria depriving the people of it's function for 7 years he was in power, swallowing their allocation and not performing their functions is the one that is doing governance right, has good governance lost it's meaning?
If a dîsàster like Obi is praised as someone doing something right, what do we tag people like Ambode and Sanwo-Olu?
What do we tag Sullivan Chime?
What do we tag Zulum etc.

The fact that u guys didn't vote a particular candidate didn't mean they are going to lose the election, the way u are typing, clearly shows that u gained political awareness from 2015, not before, elections started in 1999 in Nigeria, even before 1999 elections had been held previously, does your theory of Nigeria apply to those?

If we cannot improve Nigeria during our lifetime, we should be ashamed of ourselves. Are we simply going to wait for future generations to make the country better? What if they prove to be as unmotivated as we are? That would mean Nigeria will never see progress. Instead, let's choose to be optimistic and contribute in our own ways, no matter how small. We must reject corruption because it's the main obstacle hindering our nation's growth.

Peace!

Abegi! Obi is a featherweight politician at the national level. These people will never tell themselves the truth. According to public knowledge, only Gov. Soludo told the Agulu fraud the truth. Politics should be deviod of sentiment and emotion - a part of Obidigbo's advice reeks of pity partying.

"It's because you have a good heart, that's why 'they' won't allow you become president"

It's just like saying "the EPL won't allow Nottingham Forrest win the premier league because the team coach has a good heart"

If e didn't dey, e didn't dey. That's just it. For years, e didn't dey for Arsenal but they kept working and tweaking until they're able to match the EPL powerhouses (Man City, Liverpool).

Same way AD tweaked and hustled for decades until they were strong enough to boot the incumbent PDP out of the center. They metamorphosed into ACN, APC while fussing and collaborating with other parties along the way.

Obi has only attempted ONCE (under a party he hurriedly joined), and you think he will become president? Dude doesn't even have any structure, zero ideology and you think the presidency will given to him on a platter? Of all the three main contenders last year, he did the least homework, had the least experience at national level. Na so e easy? How many times has Atiku contested? How many times did Buhari contest before be became president? Person wey jump from APGA to PDP to LP (overnight), very likely to another party before 2027 is who you think will be taken seriously at national level? It's a known fact that Obi always take the easiest way out - that kind of attribute is not appealing.

We can keep saying shit about these folks (Atiku, Buhari, Tinubu) being old and weak but fact remains they are more hardworking, more connected, tougher, consistent, and tenacious than the majority of youths today.

You no wan work, but you wan chop. It doesn't work that way in any part of the world.

You think say na by grammar or Twitter thread, or jumping from one state to another with private jets while your minors hype you as energetic? If na by that one, Tinubu takes the crown, then add the pressure of the presidency, NNPC, CBN cabals working against him - the mf almost died during the last campaign, such that a nonentity like Dino made mockery of him as baba wey dey shake, wey no well.

Common! Obi wey no get proper grip on that tiny Labour Party na who you expect to win the presidential seat at one go? Funny! Keep deceiving yourselves. Were you too blind to see the many reconciliations Tinubu worked on across the federation to ensure APC went into the last election as one body? Obi is so weak that Kenneth Okonkwo had to back out. Apapa crisis, Abure crisis, Obi never solved any of them as party leader - you think people aren't watching?

LP wey no even get muscles to deploy agents to all the PUs across the country last year na the party you expect to win when you have powerhouses like APC and PDP on the ballot. Ani se, o funny!

Make una dey tell una selves the truth, abeg! This is not it.

Even this Edo election, the majority in Edo LP worked against Akpata, openly. Abi no be here we dey when even their influencers dey campaign for Asue upon say "Esan lo kan" and "competence"? Akpata wey no even win him PU. Commot for road jare. On the other hand, we saw how APC - under the leadership of Tinubu and Ganduje - pacified Sen. Adams Oshiomole so that Edo APC won't go into the governorship election divided (because Monday Okpebholo wasn't his candidate). This is how a party and leaders who mean business behave. Nigerian youths still think national politics is vibes and inshallah. You would think 2023 elections taught them anything.

And that Obi will never use his money to empower the youths or lookout for his constituency. He prefers tearing millions to the northerners for optics and vote bambiala than empower his people in Agulu. Lmaoo.

Don't even get me started on governance. We all know say the fraud cooked nonsense as Anambra governor for 8 years. Since the 2023 election campaign until now, none of his 0bidense can pinpoint any legacy of Obi as governor. Na to just dey talk, dey shout. Tell them to show, silence of a graveyard. Lol

Ofoooneeeee! cheesy

Probably these people don't know what they really want when it comes to national politics. Nobody is preventing igbo from becoming the president of this country. The issue here is that some of these Igbo apologists fail to see the stand of Igbo when it comes to sovereignty called Nigeria. You can't your cake and at the same time have it.
How do they think Nigerians will be bold enough to commit this country into the hands of people seriously fighting for lost course called Biafra. They think Yoruba is their main problem whereas they are not really helping themselves. The closest Peter obi can get to the presidency is 2023. Next election will even be worse. They should mend their house and do the right things if truly they wish to rule this country.

I was at Aso Rock when i overheard Peter Obi asking Bola Tinubu to pick him as running mate for 2027.

When it was explained to him that a Southerner - Southerner ticket wouldn't work, all he said was "Nna, everything is POssible with an OBIdunce"

Last thing I heard was " What was your class of degree and which miracle center did you graduate from 🎓 ? Obi, what kind of BalaBalu Gazelle GraGra is this ? shocked "

I didn't wait for Obi's response.

These are the people who deceive Peter Obi into believing he is more than the charlatan that Anambrarians experienced when he was Governor.

Too pure and clean, yet N250m cash was found in his convoy?

Too pure and clean, yet he domiciled state funds in the same bank he was the former board Chairman, and also invested state funds in a brewery he was a personal significant investor?

Hypocrites abound in this world.

Obiano fled to live in Texas.

What's so good about Anambra that all the residents avoid it like plague?

We all know those still living there are poor and have no choice.

So how's Obi the best politician ? Isn't it the same guy who fled PDP primaries or the same guy whose LP is totally fragmented ?

Stop over hyping a serial party defector and Pandora fraudster.
This is the true accounts from indigenes and residents of Anambra State when Obingo was a governor.

https://www.nairaland.com/870945/what-exactly-peter-obi-doing

A man who did not conduct Local Government elections for 8years.
The same people who criticised him for poor performance and incompetence then turned Obingo messiah overnight because of tribalism.
It's only deluded obirodents over hyping their fake messiah.
Obingo is a failure in all ramifications.

Because he built infrastructures that no politician in Nigeria has ever built, or he created employments that no politician in Nigeria has ever created.
The delusions of being an Obident is a dîsàster on it's own.
