It because of natural disaster like this they prefer wood. Take in the cold weather as well.

Concrete and brick are expensive to built with there. I would say the prefer that, easy to renovate, built is perfect and cheap.

So true... If those houses were build with concrete and blocks, it definitely wouldn't be that bad, but that's what they've built their construction industry on. Owning homes in US & Canada is not a very good investment. Better to lease a house for 10 years and build a solid structure back home in Nigeria...
