Simone Adebowale Dropped by Coach BankolešŸ¤

Simone Adebowale Reilly honoured Nigeria's invtation to camp with the Flamingoes in preparations for the FIFA U-17 Womenā€™s World Cup.

Everyone asked why she wasn't a part of the U-20 World Cup team and then she showed up with the U-17 girls but has now been dropped by Coach Kayode Bankole.

I thought it was a good idea to let her grow with the U-17 team and get prompted across the cadre as her maturity and game progresses but now that she has been dropped, I hope they will leave her alone when she shows up big for her country of birth.

I wish Simone Adebowale Reilly well in her future endeavours even as I hope Coach Bankole proves us wrong on his decision to drop her.

Most Nigerian coaches can't identify talent when they see one.
They all think football is brute force.
Remember Oliseh overlooked Ekong and Balogun but they both gave us the oyinbo wall.
Same way Manu Garba told us Dele Fisayo Bashiru was not good enough for his team and now time has vindicated him. Dude has added stealth in SE midfield and Lazio.

This is a girl that score goals and give assists in her club side.

Let her rep Ireland joor...

The nff itself is not trying to make the fbs see playing for Nigeria early as a catch. I keep saying that Attervall part was crazy. Since Courtney Dike I don't remember any fb balling for us at cadet competitions. Now the two that came are suddenly brushed off in this manner? Simone is good enough for u20. Not to talk of u17. Before someone thinks this is some worshipping talk.

Nobody gets rejected twice in such manner will be happy to rep.

This is sad. Not just her but the way it was done.

Made this girl even do team initiation grin
Only to end in tears?

Not in the least surprised. I would have been surprised had her name been included. Y'all know I am big on letting coaches the liberty go pick their roster, so won't criticize Olowoekere on this. My only issue is allowing this girl attend 2 different camps only to be let down like this. If the NFF knew she didn't have a chance (and she didn't) they should have let her go home after the u20 trials.

If you know Nigerian coaches, you'll know she didn't have a chance based on what they prioritise. We've seen it to many times at this point to be surprised.

Rasheedat Ajibade scores one and forces two own goals in another MVP of the match performance for Atletico de Madrid Femenino. A fine start to the season šŸ”„ #AtletiMadridCFF #LigaF

Rash has now been rightfully credited with her hat trick. The data now shows 3 goals 0 assists.

Ajibade now co-leads the league in number of goals scored.

The few games have seen her play sheā€™s good enough to start for the Flamingos talk more of making the team. Na them know why them drop her sha cause thereā€™s no way she will camp with the U20 and not improve on her game while coming down to the U17. Itā€™s more than what you can see.!

That guy even picked 4 Midfielders only!

Football isnā€™t about the gra gra oo, by the way Reilly isnā€™t even a lazy or should I say I weak player to contend with the Physical side of the African games..

If you have watched Onyi Zogg play you would know that no be by Foreign Born oo, Sheā€™s stronger than I thought at first. Imagine Zogg with that Baby face very very aggressive & Strong with her Defending.

Osi 32yrs Aging Strong and better, I just hope the National team Coaches are working on a Possible future replacement (Understudy) when the times comesā€¦ Cause Shukurat Oladipo didnā€™t impress me at the last U20 World Cup as expected..

Anyway Iā€™m putting in Maureen Umeh 22yrs, Akudo Ogbonna 24yrs and Shukurat 20yrs in 3rd for now..!

Didn't want to go deep into it, but it's easy to figure why she wasn't picked. For those who aren't aware:

1. The vast majority of those within the Nigerian football ecosystem do not think players of Nigerian descent born outside Nigeria should be included in age grade competitions. Even the NFF President has publicly shared same sentiment. You can go through the provisional list of both u17 and u20 the last 5 years and you'll see a quite a number of foreign born players listed who never even made it to camp. Victor Eletu who was one of Nigeria's best player at the last men's u20 competition almost didn't make the team because the coach Manu Garba didn't want him. He was literally forced on him if I remember correctly. Courtney Dike was the exception, and it took a coach like Peter Dedevbo for that to happen.

2. If you successfully make it to camp, the next challenge is scaling the philosophical mindset of an average Nigerian coach. Most believe in a mythical "Nigerian football pattern" that doesn't exist, and believe players born abroad aren't suited for it. It's why Attervall never featured for the u20 even though she miraculously made the final cut.

3. I hope you all know that had a Nigerian coach been in charge, none of Toni and Nicole Payne, Jennifer Echegini, Ashleigh Plumptre, Michelle Alozie etc would be in the current Super Falcons setup.

4. Finally, like I said yesterday, this isn't criticism of Coach Bankole's list. I have always maintained coaches should be allowed the liberty to choose their list and I don't even know the girl enough to advocate on her behalf. This is just something I have noticed over the years and thought to share. Hoping this crop of girls provide us the needed talent pool to get our next stars from.

I had to ask o because I need to know the basis on which many want her to be part of the squad. I've not watched her before.

That said, I still think we should let the coach pick his team. Correct me if I'm wrong but the bulk of this team played the qualifiers.

I wish Simeone well
