I spend at least on an average 250 to 500k on FB Ads monthly.

I sell strictly online with no physical shop
Niche- Gadgets and electronic wearables.

I had to stop selling kids iPad as the cost price keeps soaring and one spoilt product will erase any gains you made from past sales. Plus dollar to naira is killing the gains.

My dashboard sales are great. With CPA averaging at 3000NGN per purchase on dashboard but with 30% success rate in deliveries that means that my real time conversion rate is around ₦6k.
.

I don't build a list as I'm focused on Hot Sales and direct response.

So I had to switch up my products and I ran a test ad for wearables like smart watches and accessories. It was good with conversion rates averaging N750 - 900. Realtime conversion rate should be like 2700 (approx. 3k)

I paused the ads.
Raised 700k
Imported at the rate of N9k per watch... Plus 5k for delivery as we run a free delivery service for every order.

BREAKDOWN:

- 5K Delivery + 9k watch + 3k ads = 17 to 20k expenses b4 sales on top 1 sale

Selling price = N23k - 20k = 3 to 5k gains after sales on approximate (4k = profit, mean value)

Now, we didn't include spoilt items and returned items. Let's say for every 100pcs bought you'll get like 5 or 7pcs faulty.

Now if I have 6 watches successfully delivered a day... That is, 6 x 5 = 30pcs delivered in a week.

30pcs x 4k profits (mean value) = 120k gains weekly. 120k x 4 weeks = 480k monthly

It sounds good on theory but then every business person knows theory is quite different from practical results.

For example, the masses may decide to have a full blown 2 weeks of protest to End Bad Governance and shut down half the country.

Or... Some shit you never anticipated will pop up. So last last you may end up with 300k in gains.

Okay. By the time you minus personal expenses and upkeep. You'll have little left to top up and import more.

Here's what I mean...

Normally, you won't wait for the entire goods you imported to finish b4 you stock up abi?

I mean if you run Facebook adverts and you target nationwide you'll know it's a recipe for disaster if you let your stocks run dry b4 ordering for more.

Because if for example, you have stocks in Kano, Jos, Benue and Uyo. But is out of stock in the main states with highest purchasing power like Abuja, Lagos, Warri, Benin and PH then you will have lots of unfulfilled orders hence money lost as FB will charge you whether you fulfil your orders or not.

Now, remember the 300 - 400k gains? it gets decimated here .. because you have to keep funding your ad account daily and have to stock up on inventory and fight against time to enable better turn over.

Ok. To navigate that issue we try to redistribute stocks from states with goods to states that need them thereby attracting more expenses on logistics.

By the end of the day, you'll have little left to buy more goods. On the next import you'll buy like 60pcs instead of 100.

And we're not even considering the non-stop Naira decline against the dollar peg.

...

Now, every seasoned business owner reading this already knows the solution to this:

1. Increase selling price
2. Change the product.

I tried both. I increased the selling price but got a decline in number of daily orders. Which also meant the price per purchase crept up on Facebook.

I tried switching to a more expensive model of the smart watch and didn't even get 1 order for it. I got burned as I didn't test run the product b4 stocking up.

I kinda assumed it'll fly because the version I was already selling is hot-in-demand.

So I'm stock with stocks worth almost 350k and not much sales going on.

Along the line, all the other money you think you made it gone with the winds.

...

I'm got tired of importing and tried sourcing for the goods locally so as to avoid importation wait time but the ones sourced in Nigeria is more expensive with about 3k on top.

Doing business in Nigeria shouldn't be this hard.

I may have to switch back to digital marketing and growing a list of audience cos I can't keep up with this shit.

I should do just that.

On a 2nd thought 🤔💭

I could source for cheap products that costs less than 3k and resell for as high as 25 +or 30k.

Or sell a digital course. I gotta make moves.

Attached is a picture of my annual ad spend on 1 of my Facebook business account...

I'm down to my last 100k and can't seem to support myself and babe with such poor income. It's really affecting my love life and all.

I think I'll have to buckle up on whatever it is I wanna do cos water has really passed garri angry

I'm even considering going back to school at my age. I could start a career in nursing and in 3 years time I should be done and work my way out of this country.

By then, Tinubu should be starting his 2nd tenure. And I should be out before he hands the baton over to El Rufai or Wike or Tambuwal who will now give us the final SmackDown.

It's like being stuck between a rock but I still gotta make a move.

I know I'll figure it out.
I always do.

It's just exhausting looking back at where I started and not seeing any real growth in my financial metrics.

2018 - present time.
1 million naira before was like 3k dolls.
Now it's a mere 600 and some.

It feels like I'm hustling backwards.

I see people online smiling and laffing at memes or making tribal remarks to score cheap points instead of being mad and infuriated by the current economic situation.

It's funny how Nigerians be suffering and smiling.

The IMF just approved almost 5billion dollars loan for us and my question remains -- why giving us money we can't pay back if there isn't anything in it for you?

It got me thinking the whole system is rigged against me and I have to make a move.

Modified....

Someone just DM'ed me a product I can source for 25k (landing cost) and sell with like 50k on top. He already has stocks on ground and I only need to buy as I get orders.

Hopefully that works.
Long term plan - save up, get a work visa and abort the sinking ship b4 it's too late.

2nd plan - get into nursing school. Give it 3 years while selling online in the background... Then GTFO of this sinking ship.

Gosh!

Bro I recently did the fb ads thing . And a lot of clicks but low sales . I spent 350k on ads in 5days . I made roughly 100k . I’m just starting out but I think maybe i should invest in something I can do payment on delivery on. Cause that’s what most of the clients want . Maybe we can talk better

Yes most definitely.
35k per day is a whole lot. I usually start with 10k daily but fund 5 - 7k for like 2 or 3 days before scaling the daily ad budget to 15k while funding 10k.

If performances are good, I then scale to 20k daily while funding 15k except on weekends. I go all in Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

FB is crazy if you have the whole formula working out fine for you.

When you’re on a lean budget , you do local arbitrage.

People don’t import these days anymore.

Made a lot of money back in 2021 selling health products, but Mark kept banning my account.

Got fed up and dumped FB ads for good.

To be honest I really feel for you cos most of Tinubu's supporters who still live with their parents have no idea of what he's doing to the economy and how he's killing the efforts of genuine young husslers.

The reality here is that the economy is bad, and the purchasing power of the masses keeps going downward on a daily basis. So whatever kind of business you go into would definitely experience serious challenges. Because Tinubu's ultimate goal is to plunge the entire population into poverty so that they'll be at his mercy.

That's why no matter how hard you try to hussle, you'd discover that you just cannot see the money, cos inflation and the constant collapse of the naira against the dollar would keep frustrating your efforts.

You made mention of digital marketing, it's a good path, you can even get foreign remote jobs in that field, that way you won't have to struggle with HBP whenever you experience poor sales on stocked goods

How many Nigerians use chrome these days where they can see the ads? I myself use Microsoft Edge whose search engine is co-pilot. So if you're making use of Google ads, there's a 100% possibility that I won't see it.

And if you want to point out Google play store, what's the percentage of people that go there on a daily basis. Most people open the Google play store only when they want to download an app. So if they have no reason to download any app for a whole month, it means that they won't see your ad. That's why it's cheap.

Facebook on the other hand reaches people much faster cos most young people spend almost their whole day there. That's why it's more expensive and more productive.

How I survive with ecommerce and digital Marketing is dropshipping.

The product I sell I look for people selling It in other states selling it states run ads to those states. They fulfil the order and send me the markup ontop.

I don't import.

But I'm still looking for products to run ads for.

I'm experimenting with solar light and solar products.

Can easily be sold on a 300 profit rate too.

Solar is HOT! right now. I have a couple of friends dealing on it.

But then I'm looking for cheap products below 5k that I can pair with another then sell. Any good portable solar should cost up to 20k and above. Anything below that would be thrashy.

I just want to send a broadcast to my past customers on WA and see if I can get any return customers.

Sure. Local arbitrage has been my saviour for a couple of months especially when I sold kids tablets but then market inconsistency made the seller pause with the supplies when the dollar blew past the ₦1k mark.

I also delved into health earlier in my e-commerce journey. Men's health niche gave me my first Milla back then in 2018 but 1m isn't worth so much nowadays.

I and my guys had a meeting yesterday to discuss the way forward and we decided to give the sex health sub-niche a try again.

We stand more chances of getting cheap products that can be sold with like 20k markup on top after expenses and we also planned on creating a list of buying customers so we don't leave money on the table

That's why I'm thinking about the health niche. I know a couple of cheap yet effective products that could fly.

I'm currently working on the sales page as we speak. I do get a lot of return customers on that as the product is sure especially for men who don't last long in bed.
