Pet bottles cannot be banned in Nigeria. Even more developed countries have not banned it, instead they are collected, recycled and used for other products.
I watched a documentary where pet bottles when recycled are used for road construction in Singapore.

Nonsense and banning everything!!

Very simple thing bros, recycle them. That way you've solved your problem and created a job as an addition to solving your problem. Our leaders are too analogue for this digital world

Why do we take decisions without considering the masses?

Proper waste management and enforcement should be the way to go, not banning things indiscriminately.

I was surprised when I went to Texas in the US and saw that almost every food stuff is packaged with plastics, (meat, fish, vegetables, etc.) for selling in the malls, as they do not have open markets.

They even still use styrofoam plastics that were banned in Lagos. (I support the banning of Styrofoam though).

Yes, I agree that plastic use should be reduced, but pure water and bottle water are different, as they are the mainstay for many people's survival.

What is the plan for businesses. What is the plan for the street woman who sells purewater to feed?

How about we work on recycling and reusing?

Interest of the people should always be at the center of all decisions.

FreeStuffsNG:

It is actually brilliant and it's effect is positive on the environment and their livelihoods.
Single Use Plastics are more expensive and the social cost is becoming unbearable to the rest of us not in the sectors profiting from the use of SUPs. The sachet water has since outlived its usefulness and has turned to complete nuisance apart from making water more expensive.
These old archaic environmental practices need to give way and I am profoundly proud that my Lagos State is taking the lead.

The waste has started reducing since the ban on Styrofoam and once we sort out the SUP of bottled water and waste sachet from pure water, we would have solved a huge environmental and economic problem.

The bottled water can come in cheap reusable plastics while sachet water will suddenly become more expensive so the stakeholders now earn more margins as more people move to reusable bottled water and later biodegradable containers.

Jan 2025 is long enough advance notice and I urge the stakeholders to cooperate with the Lagos State Government.

This is the best time to invest in Lagos. Invest in Lagos for great returns on your investment and best investor-friendly experience in Nigeria and Africa.

What is goverment providing as alternative? I dont know the wisdom behind this thinking. Same goverment that is heavily taxing Nylon producers, Pure water producers, Vehicle and Hackney permit on all pure water distribution vehicles, and other associated services is now planing to widen the unemployment gap in the state. A good goverment should be giving attention to waste management and not focus on how to worsen the plight of its people.

Tinubu legacies speaking for him ..

Maybe Sanwo Olu has been working on the part of Tinubu’s Lagos master plan for water supply to every household and public taps in crowded areas

eluquenson:
REVISITING SOME OF THE LATEEF JAKANDE'S GOVERNMENT ACHIEVEMENTS FROM OCTOBER 1979 TO DECEMBER 1983 (FOUR YEARS AND 3 MONTHS) IN LAGOS STATE

* His government built the current Lagos State Secretariat which houses all the state ministries as well as the popular round house hitherto occupied by all subsequent governors of the state.

* His government built the Lagos State House of Assembly complex.

* His government built the Lagos State Television

* His government built the Lagos Radio

* His government built Lagos State University

* His government established General Hospital in zones all over the state with assurance of free health care.

* His government established Teacher Training College and the College of Education.

* His government built low cost houses in Ijaiye, Dolphin, Oke-Afa, Ije, Abesan, Iponri, Ipaja, Abule Nla, Epe, Amuwo-Odofin, Anikantamo, Surulere, Iba, Ikorodu, Badagry, Isheri/Olowu, Orisigun etc.

* His government established the Water Management Board and Waste Disposal Board on the 18th of August, 1980.

* His government constructed the Adiyan Water Works to increase water supply in the state to 18.16 million litres per day.

* His government modernized and expanded the Iju Water Works which was first commissioned in 1915. This increased daily capacity from 159 million to 204 million litres per day.

* His government established a singular school system and ensured genuine free education in Lagos State and the beneficiaries of this policy are in different positions of eminence in the country and around the world.

* His government raised the primary schools in Lagos State to 812 with 533,001 pupils (against 605 primary schools with 434,545 pupils he met in 1979) and secondary schools to 223 with 167,629 students (against 105 schools with 107,835 students in 1979).

* His government constructed 11, 729 classrooms with the maximum of 40 children per class between March and August 1980, by 1983, he had constructed over 22,000 classrooms.

WHO SAYS 4 YEARS IN OFFICE IS NOT ENOUGH FOR MEANINGFUL ACHIEVEMENTS?

IT'S A FACT THAT 90% OF GOVERNORS IN NIGERIA SINCE 1999 WITH REVENUES AT THEIR DISPOSAL CANNOT BOAST OF A QUARTER OF THESE ACHIEVEMENTS EVEN WITHIN THEIR EIGHT YEARS IN OFFICE.

When same ordinary man could not receive I'm a simple way definitely in hard way it shall be delivered to him. We are too dirty in Nigeria and we don't care about our environment and at the end we blame govt for nonchalant attitude. When people buy bottle water or pure water especially while in the traffic they littered the road with nylon of bottle and when you try to sensitise them they will insult you.
