Pet bottles cannot be banned in Nigeria. Even more developed countries have not banned it, instead they are collected, recycled and used for other products.
I watched a documentary where pet bottles when recycled are used for road construction in Singapore.

Nonsense and banning everything!!

They are banning the nonsense water they call pure water. Not recyclable, not biodegradable, not environment friendly at all and not good for consumption

Hmmm, they are only talking of pet bottle water and satchet water, they forget that we have plastic coke, Pepsi, and other soft drinks that comes in pet bottles . I believe they will ban their uses too?
Let them ban everything that comes in satchet and pet too

Has it occurred to you that plastics are doing more damage to Lagos? 90% of the flooding in Lagos is due to plastic rubbish clogging local gutters.

What happened to enforcing laws to penalize people who drop plastics on the road?

What happened to ensuring that every corner of the state has waste bins and making jingles to educate the people on the importance of using the waste bins?

When same ordinary man could not receive I'm a simple way definitely in hard way it shall be delivered to him. We are too dirty in Nigeria and we don't care about our environment and at the end we blame govt for nonchalant attitude. When people buy bottle water or pure water especially while in the traffic they littered the road with nylon of bottle and when you try to sensitise them they will insult you.

Even the people making this laws are the same people who break the laws.

Same Lagos has government officials using one-way drive. Same Lagos where officials disobey traffic authorities.

Why is the law always about the poor? Why don't we have laws to penalize criminals stealing government funds?

Ofcoz they should always consult medics about the implications... Lagos state and it's crowd will suffer the most if there's no alternative to replace the removal of plastics and sachet water.

Lagos is not a planned city.

There are no provisions for water pipes.

Also, this won't deal with the problem of dehydration. As many people working in mainland come from Island.... And alot more aren't living anywhere but hovering to find a sport to lay their heads.

It is actually brilliant and it's effect is positive on the environment and their livelihoods.
Single Use Plastics are more expensive and the social cost is becoming unbearable to the rest of us not in the sectors profiting from the use of SUPs. The sachet water has since outlived its usefulness and has turned to complete nuisance apart from making water more expensive.
These old archaic environmental practices need to give way and I am profoundly proud that my Lagos State is taking the lead.

The waste has started reducing since the ban on Styrofoam and once we sort out the SUP of bottled water and waste sachet from pure water, we would have solved a huge environmental and economic problem.

The bottled water can come in cheap reusable plastics while sachet water will suddenly become more expensive so the stakeholders now earn more margins as more people move to reusable bottled water and later biodegradable containers.

Jan 2025 is long enough advance notice and I urge the stakeholders to cooperate with the Lagos State Government.

This is the best time to invest in Lagos. Invest in Lagos for great returns on your investment and best investor-friendly experience in Nigeria and Africa.

May God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!
If only Lagos looked like this 😅😅😅

Business people and consumers

thats why they are banning it, they want starvation, as you can see they are banning it at same time people are suffering major economic hardship like they dont give a dam. And you should expect them making more laws that increase hardship whiles at same time they are increasing taxes.

They dont mean well for Nigerians

The problem here is that bottle water would reach N500-800 per bottle cos they know they don't have any competition.

And they're not even considering the countless pure water companies that would have to shut down because of this law.

APC is just out to destroy this country.

I saw a pure water company at ogun the company to get fence I just they look how the compound was dirty and the water was direct from the tap no cleansing . God just save us oh . As in you will see a worker in pure water company with dirty cloth haba . See finish done they pure water

Only 20% are making good pure water in Nigeria .

I respect your observation but I think your recommendation of sanctions is completely different from total ban that they have just declared.

What they are doing is throwing the dirty water and the baby in the bath away. It makes no sense especially when they have not made adequate provisions for the masses.

Prevention is better than cure.

Prevent the problem by reducing the plastic content of the rubbish and react to the problem by penalising people

Pure water employs millions of Nigerians. Amidst so many industries shutting down and your inability to employ those laid off you want to close down a whole sector instead of putting heads together with them to work out whatever concerns you may have. What sort of anti people government is this?

Stop telling lies against Bobo Chicago, the magician who built Lagos alone into a modern city, with his successors continuing with his master plan to solidify the legacy.

Lagos gets approval for $242.2m IDA loan

The Lagos State Government received approval from the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday for two separate loans totalling $242.2m (about N40bn) from the International Development Association (IDA).

The minister of information, Mr. Labaran Maku, who disclosed this to state house correspondents at the end of the FEC meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan, said $200m loan was approved to support infrastructure in the state while an additional loan of $42.2m would be in support of secondary education.

He added that the loans are the second phase of a $600m facility approved for the state by the IDA in 2010, having received $200m under the first phase in 2011.

“The minister of finance brought a memorandum seeking approval to obtain additional credit facility from the International Development Association in support of the Second Lagos State Development Policy Operation,” Maku said.

“The objective of the project is to improve on public finance in a sustainable manner and consolidate on the achievements recorded under the first phase of the project. It covers the construction of a 27km light rail, construction of schools and the construction of Adiyan mini waterworks to provide two million gallons of water per day.”

The loans are to attract 0.5 per cent commitment charge, 0.75 per cent service charge, and 1.25 per cent interest per annum. It is expected to be repaid back in 25 years, with a moratorium of five years.

The plan is to employ them in the upgraded waterworks to supply pipe borne water to all households, factories, offices, schools, hospitals etc as well as public taps in crowded places. Do you know how many thousands, if not hundreds of thousand workers are needed to operate the water works, pipes, billing and collections

Lagos Govt to complete abandoned 70m-gallon Adiyan Water Project in 18 months

The Lagos State Government has announced its resolve to complete within 18 months the 70 million-gallon Adiyan Water Project which was abandoned by the previous administration.

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu said on Thursday during an inspection of the water works that the contractor handling the project, located in the north-western part of the state, had been mobilized back to site.

They intend to ban bottled water.

Can the good governor tell us what the alternatives are?

Tap water (which is not available), buying water from tankers or dispenser water?

Someone said the person who cursed Nigeria is also shocked at the potency of his curse.
