I Am Scared Nairalanders. What Could This Be? by Auxtan(m): 1:27pm On Oct 07 |
Good day Nairalanders. I hope we all are good and coping with the economy? Please, as usual is advice time. This story happened to me just yesterday night (around after 11pm). I got a call from a number that isn't in my contact list around after 11pm, as I picked up I remained silent until the person called my first name, I now responded and asked who he was. He spoke in an uncommon native Igbo tongue and started asking me what I have done wrong that someone will bring my picture with my full name all the way to Enugu for him to perform a ritual that will see me either suffer stroke or be involved in an accident. I remained silent and after he was done talking and directing the question to me, I asked he come again as I didn't get what he said the first time. He then responded and said in the same uncommon Igbo native tongue that is my ear blocked that I couldn't get him the first time, he then proceeded to saying exactly the same thing again while referring me with my surname now, but this time as he spoke I began hearing shrine-like music instrument sounds. It was at this point I ended the call. He called again and I didn't pick up. This morning I downloaded Truecaller to figure who the person that called me was, as I couldn't find his number on WhatsApp or anywhere online. True caller identified his name as "Chief John Odoh". Figuring his name made my curiosity grow because I have initially brushed off the call as probably from a scammer looking to use emotional control on me. What could this really be? I don't owe anyone or feel I am at loggerheads with anyone. I don't wish anyone bad. What could this be? Please someone help me break this down. Thank you. 2 Likes |

Delete and block the number. Someone who knows you is trying to play a fast one on you in order to extort you. Just ignore him cos if you decide to play along the next thing he'll tell you to do is to pay a certain amount of money so that he won't carry out whatever it is he wants to carry on your picture. Boys are not smiling these days. 49 Likes 8 Shares |

Auxtan: You don't need any breaking down, just be careful and avoid creating more enemies for yourself and if you are a Christian go and pray with Psalm 91 and 35 12 Likes |

Auxtan:In today’s world we live in, privacy is a myth. Just as you know his name using true caller, he too can figure out your surname by that. With all my in-depth knowledge when it comes to maneuvering the online world (not bragging but I damn understood the cyber world, it like I was born to live in it), about two years ago, With all my so proud knowledge I still ended up getting scammed, in a big way; pulled by someone in the east whereas I was right here in the southwest throughout the experience. It all seems like a movie to me, felt so ashamed I could not tell a soul. If I do, I won’t only lose money but also my credibility. My point is, these scammers can be very very very tactful. 14 Likes 1 Share |

You could have been patient enough... To listen to what the person had to say till the end. Rather than cut the call midway. Now you are scared and have run to NL to be creating same topic all over the place. When all you needed do was listen to determine what the person wanted. Nobody here can determine or conclude if it was a scam or not because you didn't wait to hear till the end what the person intended. Someone made such a threat to you involving your life and all you think of was cut off midway without finding out if it was genuine/serious threat or not. Now you are here asking questions... And people are concluding it's a scam because scam Don too full Nigerians head and so everything is a scam to them. But even if it's just 1% chance of this threat not being a scam you should take it seriously and asked the caller the right questions! 13 Likes |

Auxtan:It happened to me the exact same way you narrated just that I asked him to tell me what to do in a mocking style and he also mockingly replied I should go lay my head on the main road for dangote truck to flatten it He said he’s igwe(traditional king) It’s a scam, had it been I was superstitious I’d been worried just like you If you had followed it step by step, at a point money will be involved 7 Likes 1 Share |

LOL Another Nairalander shared a similar trend some days back. This is the new format in town but still report the issue at a police station. Scam or not, it's a criminal act and the culprit should be dealt with. |

brain54: Abeg shift! Do you know what hypothesis is? She/he can be hypnotize by just listening to a strange voice Hypnotic is one of the ways this yahoo guys cash out alot from their client. Some of the ways it works is, you first have to believe, they rant an incantation, put you under a spell you'll likely sell your father house just to do their biddings. Like someone said, no one who truly want to hurt you will first call you! Never! 3 Likes |

Auxtan: This is a scam trick played in exact similarity to someone I know 3 weeks ago the lady cursed the hell out of the caller and dared him and he even said she wont live to see the next week. She's still alive. Don't be scared. You are the second person I'm hearing this from. I think they play it on women because of their emotional awareness. Just pray and put yourself together and move on. 1 Like |
